Here's a simple, noobie question, but I can't find the answer.
I'm a bard. I have 'THROWING' on my skill list. The 'make hotbutton' button is greyed out.
How do I throw?
and is there a /autofire for throwing ?

Yes, there is auto fire, but you throw with ranged attack.
Load up your throwables in range/ammo slots and use ranged attack for singles or /autofire on for continuous throwing.
Just to make it clear, since this is the thing that confuses most people the first time they try to throw... you must have 1 of the items you're trying to throw in both your ammo and range slot. If you only have it in the ammo slot you won't be able to throw. If you only have the item in the range slot, you'll throw that one but no more. Than as the others have said, either use the ranged attack button or /autofire.

You don't have to have the throwing item in both the range and ammo slots. I've been throwing javelins with only 1 javelin in my range slot, since it automatically pulls them from my inventory. Unless that only works for monks. Just my 2cps :)
It's supposed to (or used to at least) only pull additionals from your inventory if you had at least one in the ammo slot as well. That may have been changed though (intentionally or not?).
Works for beserkers, too. You can keep more than one in your range slot, too. I generally keep a stack of 100 throwing axes in range and in ammo slots and a bag full in inventory. I rarely need to replenish during a play session that way.
