problem with EQFollow

hi. when i go to play eq the patcher works fine then when i hit play the patcher goes away then a timer comes up for like 1 second and goes away and then nothing happens. why is this happening? its not my firewall because i turned it off when i tried to log do it. is there some other setting on my computer that is doing this? or is there a problem with my computer in general?
