I can't believe EQ players would report other EQ players for anything. I've known people that were misunderstood and reported and then banned and its really heartbreaking to me to see it happen. I've never reported anyone and I never would over anything whether it be a name or bad language or even unlawful playstyles (such as campstealing or training) because for all I know those people that I might report for these things are good people that just, in a moment of weakness, made a mistake and to be banned for it and lose years of time and effort and friends is so so sad.

Luckily, Pandorass you only lost your name and reputation. I've seen other good people lose alot more all because another EQ player that really had no idea of what he was doing or how serious he was hurting someone decided to send a report rather than work out his problem like an adult.

As has been said, evil people rarely realize that they're evil.

So if you noticed a toon named "Diefnnigerz", "Rapeyomama", "Beatragheads" or something similar you wouldn't take offense to it? Or would you be mean and report them (which according to you would get them banne)? Would you be heartbroken to see a misunderstood person like that get banned?

few years ago i made a rogue.

named him Robben. then when i reached lvl 20 i added the name Hood.

so he was Robben Hood. i knew i wasn't supposed to do it, but i did it anyway. well someone must have reported me and the "Hood" part was removed. the thing that sucked was everytime i then tried to put in an apropriate last name, it told me "you already have a surname" /boggle

but this was fixed when they enabled you to change your surname once a week or whatever it was.

the name on my alt rogue is now:

Robben Youblind

;-P

has lasted about a year now ;-P

WTF is wrong with Robben Hood? Too close to a fictional name? I've seen plenty of those around.

yeah, not "supposed" to use "real" or "fictional" names.

but yeah, we all see plenty.

to tell the truth, when i made the name Robben, i wasn't thinking about a last name. i just was thinking, rogue=thief so i made it Robben. then later i got the idea, Robben Hood, because Robin Hood was a "thief" (rob the rich give to the poor).

no matter now, can change your own name back and forth if you want these days ;-)

Evn though I have seen a few doozies in my day (none I will mention, many are in my guild and friends of mine ) I still never complained. I have seen many LEgolas and Aragorns and Gandolf variations. Sad.

However, I have always felt that if a name made it through the name process at creation and through the surname system at 20, then a name was fine. I find very little offensive, other than the lack of Original, Creative names.

Hell, my dwarvewn cleric's name is Hamaneggs McMuffin, my g/f made a dwarven beserker named Sinnamen Biskit to go with him. lol

What pisses me off about the name system though, is it would not allow me to have my RL first name, nor my Trademarked online name.

So I was thinking.. I have a fem Noam Wizard (ft15 & >2000 mana at level 1, etc.) named "Pixel Supertwink".

I wish I had named her Nova
Surname Gina
Someday Title Lady

Lady Nova Gina

I like it. See, in WoW the only (current) titles are for PvP and she would be something like:

Knight Novagina

And I think I would get /reported faster with out the space and the extra capital to throw you off. Don't you think?

Even the naming process when creating a toon won't catch everything.

I saw some toon with the name "Bukkaki", which I reported immediately. Now for those that don't realize it, if you change the "i" to an "e" it becomes a sex act.

This is the only time I ever reported a bad name.

Is "***" really a bad word?

Not really. Sort of depends on context though, but I dare say something like Hitdatass would be imho WAY worse then Pandorass.

Someone petition to sony that all names henceforth be in binary code. if you can get offended by 0110010100 you must be an android sent from the future, in which case no, i have not seen john conner. better yet, all names must be in sequential numerical order. the first person to log onto a server will be 01, and so forth.

Lvl 0 half-elf Bard looking for good guild to party and make fun of halflings with. anyone know how to upgrade an etch-a-sketch so i can run two windows at once? thanks

Well obviously he didnt have to stretch far to make it offensive....He named himself Pandorass spankin its clear what his intention was with that name....

Exactly and that is what so many people are missing. Much like a gal I used to work with made her Vah Shir Beastlord just after Luclin came out and named her Prettypussy. She liked the name since she was a cat but knew that it would likely get petitioned. She dealt with GMs a few different times about other things and not once did they give her a hard time or change her name.

When she turned 20 she said she wondered how long she would be able to keep her name if instead of "Bruntjen" (her real last name) she chose "Wannalick" as a surname. Prettypussy Bruntjen and Prettypussy Wannalick convey 2 completely different intentions (not to mention maturity levels). Having chose the former, she has that name to this day and while she could understand if they did indeed change it as it is, she would EXPECT to get it changed with the alternative.

i made a drood named Weedsmokin Bowlpacker, had one *** complain to me about it and probably 50-60 people say they liked it and laughed about it, some even told me if i make it a year without getting banned they would give me 50k, got to thinking about it petioned GM to fix or change name so wouldnt be breaking rules, got message from GM back saying name was fine, and they didnt see anything wrong with it...lol watch a year from now it gets changed, saved ticket from GM just incase..lol

Probably not just the *** in the name the fact that Pandora is a Character of lore from another storyline (which is also agains the naming rules). Some times you just get caught. GM wondering through the zone investingating something else and sees the corpse. Also They didnt steal you mains name you stole the name from a story yourself. just because you added a couple of "s" at the end.

I dont get it. Really why they hell are so many of you being @#%^s to him. He was trying to name himself Pandora and couldnt get it to take. So he got Pandorass.

Why would you think this? The GM's OFFERED to give him the name "Pandora". They can't offer a name that is taken, and if they can give him that name, they the Character Select screen will.

Like previously stated, this individual was trying to be childish/smart a** and create a character with the name Pandorass. If you don't believe me, read the rest of the name:

Pandorass Spankin

Umm yeah, totally intentional.

Actually you have misread the OP's reply he requested Pandora and they didnt give it to him, it was on his list but he got back his orginal name instead.

There is a happy ending to this story, /petitoned to get name back, was denied. So I did what i was told, made my list of choices I would like ( 1.Pandoras 2. Pandora 3. Pand 4. Pillowpants 5.Toonformerlyknownaspandorass) and then sat and pitied myself for awhile playin Scarface cuz I didnt want to wear down my rez timer until that got worked out. Then I check back in after work to see which one of my choices I would now be saddled with, and lo and behold the GM's reversed their decision and gave me back the name Pandorass! Now I shall go forth and sing the praises of the great GM's and their all powerful, all knowing, brains of immense size. Who says ya cant fight City Hall huh?

Specifically here. Then you state this again not reading the OP.

Your confusing character creation with surname selection here. You cannot select a surname until level 20. He may have selected the surname before he selected the name but says here that he didnt.

Quote:
So I did try to get Pandora as my toons name first, but it was rejected so my immature brain told me "just add 2 S's and it will say *** at the end of your name".This was my first toon so hittin level 20 when I knew no one and had nothin took some time, I even think I had a different surname before Spankin, but Spankin lasted bout a year and then was gone. You didnt see me complainin on here then about it cuz I understood, even though I beleive every child over age 2 has been threatened numerous times with an *** spankin so what could the harm be, I sent in my list for them to choose from and ended up with Ponderous as my last name.I had Box on my list but I should have put that as my first choice. So when they took my name there was nothin really dirty about it,

Specifically this post by the OP. Either way moot point he got his name back and is running around as Pandorass again. Figured since you quoted me I would reply though.

An officer in a guild got angry at the guild leader, and in the course of an hour or so, deguilded all members of the guild.

i think SOE needs to Do things like Square Enix... in FFXI... put "NO" on the top of there Auto reply List... and say Deal with it.. basicly tell ya "yer the stupid one for doing it... and i missed the part where that was our problem.. " ive seen names running around like bboobbiieess.... or KnockerTwinTit... lol i thought them to be funny... but kind of offensive yes... but hey its a game... people take these games way to seriously.... if a person wants to act immature and make a offensive name.. there the ones who have no up'bringin.. thats just shows there "intell" and frankly its disrespectful to there fellow players.. /blacklist... or /ignore.... works wonders... /squelch all of the above... just because they have an offensive name... dont mean u have to interact with them... go about yer buisness... wdont bother anyone unless they bother you! =)

Wow, my first post ever on Alla's board and so many people respnded to my whining post about losin my name. Well, now that my ego is all pumped up I have decided to do the worst thing and attempt to do even better. In the face of certain failure I am on a one man crusade to change the bazaar setup! I will post everywhere I can find, /petition and /bug constantly while I am playing, and tell everyone I see about my plan. I want the bazaar to be changed to how it is in WoW and EQ2, eliminate the need for never played bazaar mules, idle computers runnin EQ all night sellin, havin to wait till 2am to get a good deal cuz thats when all the "good" mules are on, and just all the unnecessary crap that goes with it. Imagine being able to get the best prices all day at the bazaar, a larger selection of spell, gear, and TS stuff, and I can finally take my Ogre Shaman outta there and go play him. I hope others will join me and respond in the post I'm gonna make here and all over.

The only thing offensive about his name is that his surname wasn't "Box" or "Boxx"
