SOE STOLE MY MAINS NAME!Follow

#1 Oct 14 2006 at 6:28 PM Rating: Decent
3 years I've had the name, was the first toon I ever made, and is the toon I spend 95% of my time on.I have gone through the surname stealing thing over a year ago when they decided that after 2 years my surname was now offensive, but now I log in to find my name is changed, I cant loot or drag my corpse I was standing on in the guild lobby, I was booted from my guild, lost my friends list, and all my windows and hotkeys are reset. how the hell is anyone supposed to know who I am anymore? i spent a lotta time building a good reputation, now that is all gone. for $13 bucks a month I feel I should be entitled to keep the same name that they accepted so long ago and have been accepting since. WTF?! Am I the crazy one here? I dont know what they saw wrong with my surname (Spankin) but at least that people change a lot, but my surname is my signature, all my guild avatarts and log in names, my magelo, everything is tied tyo that name. So say good night to the bad guy everyone, you aint ever gonna see Pandorass again apparently.

You had *** in your name what did you expect???

I say its about time they changed it... Stupid names are a pet peave of mine, the only thing worse is when someone makes a toon with one then complains that it was changed...read the EULA next time.

Quit your whining and get on with life. You knew, years ago when you picked the name, that you would eventually get caught. Just be happy you got a few years with it.

Well the last name I can see being changed, but the first name really don't seem dirty unless the person who looked at it has a dirty mind. There are alot of names that have *** somewhere in them, that doesn't mean they are dirty.

I had a GM once force me to change a monk alts name. I had named him Shytor (as in Shy-tore). I had wanted to spell it another way but somebody had allready used it. Anyways a GM forced me to change it because he said it looked like sh*ter. That was never the plan but I was forced to change it. So apparently somebody with a dirty mind petitioned me (or he just caught me somehow).

I personalyl have no respect who try to nit pick at people's name and then rat them out. I mean if a person has a completely off the wall name that should never have passed the creation screen then fine. AFter all we gotta protect the children who are not supposed to be playing the game in the first place (its rated T for 13+ for a reason parents!) Don't tell me little billy who is 13 years old has never heard a dirty word. Your average school playground would be a R rated movie for the language kids use. And if your so offended by a off the wall name go play on the roleplayer server. Then you can listen to the Ogre players talk like a baby and threaten to eat gnomes all day long.

All of these are on your computer still under the old name. Look for the "Pandorass" named files in the EQ directory. Now cut and paste these into the files with the new name.

Usually after three years of having a name, you are probably a victim of someone reporting your name. You more than likely flew under the radar of the SOE naming police, but somebody probably saw it and decided to report you.

Sorry, I will rat people out for abusive or offensive names. Probably not Pandorass Spankin, but I have turned in some doozies.

Someone can /surname Rumphumper no problem yet I had to petition to get the surname 'Eazy'??

I do find it funny that the bad-word filter will change Cockatrice to something else if you announce Incoming <<a cockatrice >> to your group.

Reminds me of the time I spent a good 30 seconds tying to figure out what a "Green Silken D$&@# was.

Drape... it filtered out the word rape.

I do as many as I see. They are after all rules of playing the game. I don't think the Pandorass is real bad, if I was renaming you I would just have made your name Pandoras if it was the only name you hade. But if you had Pandorass Spankin then you did it just to be an *** and/or childish. So I would have renamed you "Noobwhoknowsnothing Intraining"

Oh god I bet I see that name next week! hehehehe

You are entitled to play their game, IF you follow their rules. That is it.

Probably should have thought of that before you made such a stupid name.

I can't believe EQ players would report other EQ players for anything. I've known people that were misunderstood and reported and then banned and its really heartbreaking to me to see it happen. I've never reported anyone and I never would over anything whether it be a name or bad language or even unlawful playstyles (such as campstealing or training) because for all I know those people that I might report for these things are good people that just, in a moment of weakness, made a mistake and to be banned for it and lose years of time and effort and friends is so so sad.

Luckily, Pandorass you only lost your name and reputation. I've seen other good people lose alot more all because another EQ player that really had no idea of what he was doing or how serious he was hurting someone decided to send a report rather than work out his problem like an adult.

As has been said, evil people rarely realize that they're evil.

There is a happy ending to this story, /petitoned to get name back, was denied. So I did what i was told, made my list of choices I would like ( 1.Pandoras 2. Pandora 3. Pand 4. Pillowpants 5.Toonformerlyknownaspandorass) and then sat and pitied myself for awhile playin Scarface cuz I didnt want to wear down my rez timer until that got worked out. Then I check back in after work to see which one of my choices I would now be saddled with, and lo and behold the GM's reversed their decision and gave me back the name Pandorass! Now I shall go forth and sing the praises of the great GM's and their all powerful, all knowing, brains of immense size. Who says ya cant fight City Hall huh?

I was told that the name Fingered was not acceptable one time. So I guess they better remove "Fingered Skeliton" from Kurns.

What server are you on, Pandorass? I want to petition you...
#19 Oct 17 2006 at 1:54 AM Rating: Good
I dont get it. Really why they hell are so many of you being ******** to him. He was trying to name himself Pandora and couldnt get it to take. So he got Pandorass. Its not anywhere near offensive its a stretch to even make it offensive it would be like banning anything named assassin cause *** is in it twice. I mean hell how many versions of Legolas have we all seen, there is even a guy on my server named Velkator. Its like your little kids who have to laugh cause someone said the word wiener while your on a cookout cooking hot dogs. Its such a huge stretch to make that name offensive that it really is that silly. At a guess the surname came from the other Beavis and Butthead wannabes that continually pointed out that his name had the word *** in it. But you cant give someone the benifit of doubt?

To the OP, I am glad you got your name back, sorry you got ******* and sorry so many people here cant seem to empathize with stuff like not being able to get your bodies when they changed your name.

Doesn't matter waht his intentions were, the last part of that name offends some people and IS a violation of the naming policy. And put togther with his surname, well, what was he expecting?

While I don't personally find it offensive it was still stupid to do. Most people probably wouldn't even of noticed or cared (including the GMs) if s/he had picked a different surname, but putting "spankin" after "...***", well, that's asking for attention, and attention is what they got.

Gratz on getting your name back, but I'd still suggest changing your surname ASAP. Another GM is bound to see it or you're bound to get reported again and the GM that takes care of it next time may not care about any precedent that another GM may have set for you...

No one gets banned for having an objectional name, you are just forced to change it.

Yes, I will report egregious (look it up) behaviour anytime. I do not have to suffer foul language, seeing as it is against the EULA, so I exercise my rights and use the tools provided (/petition /report /ignore). Whatever action SOE takes after that is their responsibility.

If someone gets banned it's not my fault because I dropped a dime on them.

In every dispute I have seen, the GMs I have dealt with do not unilaterally ban someone based on the word of one player. I know some people who got banned for ridiculous reasons before, but never for one person ratting on them.

I dont get offended when people call me immature, but being called dumb I take offense to. I am very intelligent, but also very immature. So I did try to get Pandora as my toons name first, but it was rejected so my immature brain told me "just add 2 S's and it will say *** at the end of your name".This was my first toon so hittin level 20 when I knew no one and had nothin took some time, I even think I had a different surname before Spankin, but Spankin lasted bout a year and then was gone. You didnt see me complainin on here then about it cuz I understood, even though I beleive every child over age 2 has been threatened numerous times with an *** spankin so what could the harm be, I sent in my list for them to choose from and ended up with Ponderous as my last name.I had Box on my list but I should have put that as my first choice. So when they took my name there was nothin really dirty about it,but it has made me think about changin my zerkers surname from Fyoutillyouloveme to somethin else, maybe Censored. Maybe I am too immature for wanting to have stupid names for my characters, but hey, I play video games for hours on end. Anyone else here like that?

Congrats on getting your name back.

I had a similar experience. I made a Erudite Wiz way back when and wanted to call her Obsidian, after the mineral...black, translucent and sharp-edged (or concoidal fractures for the geologists out there). The name was taken so I went with Obsideon.

I moved that toon to another server and the name got the x stuck on the end. When I went to look for a new name, yeppers!!, I got Obsidian:D

What's offensive and what's not is really an individual matter and while it's perfectly legit for SOE to have to avoid words that the media in general avoids..swearing and sexually explicit stuff, a name has no impact on gameplay and is really a trivial issue to anyone but the nameholder.
