Hi All
as the subject headline says I am a wet behind the ears Newbie so I hope that you will be kind to me please. :-)
I dont even have the game yet, my name is Andrew and I live in London England.
I have bought on ebay UK the Titanium edition of Everquest the other day from
Canada a couple of days ago so I now have a little wait until I can start to play.
I have heard of Everquest in the past and one of my Bosses is a level 72 he tells me, I didn`t realise how many years this game has been going you know.
So please tell me what I can look forward too and I hope that my PC is up to playing this game after spending out, I could not get Oblivion to work at all although I have played Morrowwind.
I am looking to play solo mostly, do you have to team up a lot like of Guild Wars
which I played a bit.
Can you people please help me with making my online person, what do you think of Halfling if not what else for soloing and what would a good "Job" be?
I have many questions but I dont want to outlive my welcome on my first mail so I will end this one here.
I look forward to being a part of this group and game (soon)
Take care now
Peace
Andrew.

Check under class forums for the ideal "job" for you. If you plan on soloing look at druid, necro, bard, beastlord, mage, wizard, ranger, or shammy. Classes that are primarily group dependant are warriors, clerics, enchanters (I think, never played one), rogues, shadowknights, paladins, berserkers. Some of these classes can solo, but it would take a very long time to get experience.

welcome :)

you should also think about what server you will be joining (there's a good few to pick from, hehe). there is a mostly european server i.e. (Antonius Bayle), or there are servers with quite a young crowd (young as in a few more low lvl. players), like Stromm or Povar. also, two special servers like "the Sleeper" or the "combine", where the expansions (12 to date) are being unlocked one after another. or, just join the server your boss plays on, get PL'ed and twinked and miss out on a good few rushs of adrenaline.

halfling sounds fun btw - hairy feet FTW :-D

You should also be careful about buying EQ over ebay. The disks and manual itself might be of some use to you, but the liscence key associated with the game can only be used once to open up the expansions on an account. If the person who sold you the game already used the liscence key, then it will not be usuable by you to open an account with SoE. I would hate to see you turned off on the game because of some unscrupulous canadain.

Pffft, you don't know what hawt is. Hawt is a Vah Shir bard. We make the little drakkin chicks swoon. Those cute little dark elves also find us unresistable (when we're agnostic and illusioned at least :) ).

Really, this just brings up an important thing about asking which class or race to roll. There is no right answer. Everybody has their favorites for whatever reasons. More then likely, you'll mess up at first. Most people make several toons before they find "the one" that they really like to stick with. Some never find that toon and enjoy playing many of them or all of them equally. I leveled 2 toons to the mid 50's (Luclin time frame, several years ago) before I fell in love with my bard.

Go ahead and shoot your questions to us. Answering them makes us feel important and smart. ::grin:: And welcome to "their world".

Hi Guys
thanks for the welcome and ideas, please keep them coming if you dont mind. :-)
Fhruby, no problem with getting this game (hopefully) on ebay, the company is
called "EC Games" and judging by the feedback they seem to be reliable, BTW the game is new.
I was thinking today as I have to wait for it to get to me if I download the
10 levels online can I install my copy of the game over the top of it or would
I need to uninstall and install my copy and would you recommend my installing
the add ons right away or wait for awhile first?
My Boss is on a Server called "Seventh Hammer, what is your opinion on this Server
is it for me or where else and can I change Servers or would I be stuck with
the one I choose?
Right if possible can someone post back about the download soon as I so want to
play you know. :-)
Peace
Andrew.

you can start a character at any time on any server, however if you want to move one character from the server they started on to another server you have to pay a fairly hefty price (think its something like $50) and it can take a week or so to have the char swapped over.

if you have someone you know on that server its probably a good idea you start there.

oh and your allowed a max of 8 characters per server (10 if you do station access - which you probally dont need right now)

Setup the account through sony station and download the files online, install and then update the files through the patch server.

When you get the game in the mail you can register the expansion to your account through the website and start playing immeadiatly, without waiting for game to install and then the very long wait for update files to download.

Make sure you click the correct expansion names on the advanced tab of the patch server so as to have all the files you will need on your computer when you register the expansion.

It's been mentioned already, but I'll reiterate that you should play several different classes to ge a feel for what you like. Try a Monk, Rogue, Barbarian, or Warrior to get a feel for strictly melee classes, a Paladin, Shadowknight, or Ranger for hybrid classes (melee + casting), and a Magician, Cleric, Wizard, Necromancer, Druid, or Shaman for casting classes. Or any combination of the above.

What hasn't been mentioned is that you shouldn't get too attached to your first puppet since you'll likely end up playing something completely different than what you eventually decide will be your "main" puppet. It may seem like slow-going at first, but remember that you'll have many weeks of playing that should be thought of as a learning experience. In the overall scheme of things, the first month or two of gameplay is just training to see what sort of class you like best. There's plenty of time to develop what you decide is the best fit for you, so don't feel like you have to immediately decide on something and maniacally work towards getting that puppet to 75. There's an unbelievable amount of content available to all levels and classes, and you should take the time to enjoy the journey :)
