Sorry no rant here hehe, I just want to kick off the discussion.

For the record, I thouroghly enjoyed this weekend making a new character in SS and leveling him to 21. So many quests and the gear that is available for the level is super. Some of the drops I have seen for 50+ is as good as PoP Elemental and better. I have a serious issue with lag and zoning now if I try to 2-box so that is really my only complaint.

Granted I sort of powerleveled my toon. Only had temp once or twice, but usual buffs were Sow, Chloro, Skin like Nature, STR, Resists, Thorns cast by my 66 druid with max extended EE. If my DS wore off I switched to blues or did tradeskills and easy quests. And there were plenty of those to keep me busy. All the trades have quests to get you to level 54 in that skill. There is also a quest for a Drakkin cultural attack that you can quest to improve every 5 levels. I have the third level dragon breath which is an initial attack plus lowers PR for a time period. Too bad rangers don't have a poison based attack. (Never played a ranger before so don't flame me if they get one later in life.)

My conclusion from the new gear, regen, quests etc. is that it is practically a new game. Bugs have been surprisingly minimal, I really expected more patches and crashes. I think I will be reluctant to return to the old content for the near future.

I like it so far. The quested rewards are great. I was thinking about twinking my new Drakkin cleric a little with stuff I had on my trader that wouldn't sell, but all the stuff he had quested by levle 10 was already better, so it was a moot point.

The resist that the Drakkin breath ability lowers is based on the dragon you descend from. For instance, my Drakkin is descended from Draton'ra, the black dragon. My breath weapon does an immediate DD, lowers disease resist and does a short term DoT (8 per tick at level 2). The damage effects and duration are the same for each type, only the resist debuff is different. Disease debuff probably isn't horribly helpful for a cleric soloing, but it may come in handy in group situations. The extra attack definately is handy while soloing though.

My one problem so far has been deaths for my main. The mobs in this expansion are major undercons. Practically every named mob I have encountered above level 10 has summoned me. Many of them have flurried, enraged, etc. While these level 30ish summoning mobs aren't a major problem for my level 69 bard, I can see it being a boon for anybody trying to solo in the low-mid levels. They can still attack the trash I suppose... but even the trash is underconned. The earth elementals in Goruk'tar mesa (or however you spell it) are light blue to my bard and ate through 6k+ hp in less then 15 seconds. REALLY caught me offguard.

All in all though, I'm having fun. It's my first time rolling a cleric and it's really cool to actually do some stuff that I'm discovering on my own.

almost a new game, yes... I didn't even intend to order TSS really, but did so, after my Pally was stuck in Crescent Reach after using the "go home" button...

reminds me of EQ2 a bit, but overall the changes are geared towards a more casual audience (like huge signposts; zoneout under find; relatively short quests with rewards worth mentioning).

Now I maybe forced to upgrade my puter though, cause one thing didn't change. EQ still is a memory hog :-D

anyone played using "group mentoring" yet?

Although I preordered TSS and downloaded all the files, I haven't set a foot into the new zones yet. I still have to get used to the new con system (grey and white just look too similar), but I loved skilling up quite a lot during my last session... and the regen system seems nice, although it definitely will change gameplay.

It is definately nice as a shaman to sit on my horse, buff the group and pet up and still have 95 % (or better manna).
Stuck my nose in brightside moor on my cleric. Zoned with about 12 hornets on my tail.
Started a drakin Sk just to see the city, but deleted it afterwards. I cant make up my mind to play a monk, Sk or try a mage again.

Seems to be a pretty good cross section of the better bits of the original world, Kunark and Velious. I think they have captured a lot of what made the pre Luclin zones so good.

Druids and Wizards are going to have a ball, some great kiting and quad kiting spots. It looks interesting visually. If there is a weak spot, I'd say there should have been a couple more city zones, but then, they may be the next expansion :P

If you are LFG, this is going to be the place to go I think.

I love it. Had no intention of playing a Drakkin but rolled one to see what they look like and check out Crescent Reach. A few hours later I was level 10 lol. The quests are what kept me playing - interesting storylines able to be completed in short time periods and nice rewards.

The zones are absolutely beautiful. I love the purple flowers in Blightfire Moors! The quests are fun and the storyline is interesting. I also really like the new spell system with the 3 tiers. This way I can get the rank 1 and spells and any other ranks I happen to get are just bonus. /applaud SoE on that idea! All in all, it's a very fun expansion, imho.
