Isn't this the Best Expansion debut ever??

Ponder these amazing accomplishments:

1. 14 hours downtime for patch
2. 3 Months Beta Testing
3. 2 hour file download times
4. 30 mins uptime until first crash
5. 2 hours uptime until next big crash
6. New race of character to create (if you have an empty toon slot - or if you delete one of your beloved 8 toons)

I know the SOE gnomes must be all tuckered out after 14 hours of patching today. Maybe they will come back tomorrow and repatch the patch.

Or did they "take the money and run"

I think I need to eat some clams.

Hoo boy, just logged in for the first time and got to the character select and all my toons looked to be naked and gearless, save for their Primary/secondary slots...I got worried till I logged in to see the gear still intact...

So far I think SOE has done a great job. I give SOE 5 dimes a day to have access to the best online game available. Now I give considerable more money to Pepsi Co., McDonalds, and lets not forget Chevron (who is my largest reciever of my hard earned money). Lets look at how yesterday went. The EQ team had to come to work early. Then they had to bust their asses uploading and configuring one of the largest expansions (not it size but scope), plan on working overtime (my guess it was close to a 20 hour day for most) until the major issues were ironed out, all while a bunch of cry babies whined on every damn board on the net. I dont think for one minite Sony is going to bend over backwards to get my 5 dimes, but it is perfectly clear that they feel EQ is still a vibrant and a profitable buisness to put as much effort, hard work, and reinvestment as has been apparent just from the log in screen. Please, if you employer (if your unemployed please disreguard and get a job) asked you to preform in a very competitive job field, with short staff in ungrateful conditions, I can bet they werent happy either.

I would surmise that because SOE is a very profitable company and because we pay good money for their games and services that the employees should not be short-staffed and overworked.

SoE is notoriously unorganized and underprepared for expansions.

But I'm wondering what the verdict is? Has anyone gotten enough playtime on this expansion to comment on it's worth?

...I haven't yet spent the thirty bucks.

I haven't seen a shareholders statement on a very small segment of Sony but I know for fact that the software industry, specifically the gaming sector, is very lean and high pressure. 95% of the time i get to log in and play is error free. I can tell you that 1 out of 6 orders I place at Micky D's is hosed up and this company is making far more money than the little division of Sony. If you havent bought the expansion grats, that is the only way you can make a statement that SOE will understand. I am inconvieneced twice a year and find that the rest of the time I spend in game is very enjoyable.

About two weeks for the major issues like making bards able to sing again and keeping the servers up. Things like fixing the 4-6 minute zone times weren't fixed until February, a good month later.

Planes of Power was fairly painless as far as the servers go although a lot of the expansion's functionality was borked for some time.

Really, anyone expecting smooth sailing on launch night for a major, game changing expansion was kidding themselves.

Not to mention that one of the expansions biggest selling points, the bazaar, wasn't ready for a LIFETIME. A lot of people couldn't even look at the entrance of Shar Vahl because of the lag it induced and the moorwars quest was broken for a year at least (if it ever really was fixed).

Dam stop crying. Try play wow with the constant game crashes, the nasty lag. And the always "Were sorry for the downtime" All the time. I think SOE is doing alot better than blizzard making a more messed up game.

Well said. Could have been much worse, and the short glance I got at the content was impressive. Implementing that much software can't be easy, and it doesn't seem to have gone too badly at all (so far).

I have a friend that logged out last night level 72.

That beats most EQ expansion rollout days.

You guys should search all the "class action suit" threads from past patches/expansions and make a stickie (like the WoW Forum's 'Tuesday is always maintenence day' one). Cause this was old.. back when I started EQ. In PoP.

Someone got to play yesterday!

To the OP; think of Everquest as a 56 Ford Fairlane. It's a classic, lots of people like it, and lots of people like to restore them. However, no matter how many new parts you put into it, it's still a 56 Ford Fairlane and some of those new parts might not get along with the old ones right away. It's a work in progress...

I don't understand how the downtime on expansion launch days is a surprise to anyone who has been playing for a few years.

Now if it was as messed up as Luclin, yes, then you have a right to complain.

I started the patch last night, started playing Civ3, and never wasted my time even trying to log on. You knew they were going to have to bring it down at least once, because they always have to on launch day.

Just like there will be a big patch next week fixing bugs that come up in the next few days.

I don't understand why people bother getting upset over this anymore.

@Felicite, my sympathy to those who dinged 75. Then again, it's their money, and so they can play the game they want to, so good for them, if they are happy.

I've spent $60 so far (2 accounts) and have just made it to the character creation screen since it was late by the time downloads and time-outs were over. I am not complaining. I expected as much. Actually, I expect more delays/patches. (Also another 2xp weekend soon hehe...)

I set my trader this AM (80 peeps in Bazaar only) and left for the day. I'll try to raise a Drakkin tonight.

Everytime I bomb out on login after/during a patch I restart on Test. Had a fun group last night in Unrest and didn't sweat the timout messages for a second. When people started screaming in General chat we broke up the group and I logged back into Stromm. I'm the original low-power leveller, so Test gives me a chance to play other classes/races at level 25 to start. Test is my cure for patch day blues.

I thought it was very nice so far. It is very cool to see what all my skills can be maxxed to, compared to what they are. I dinged 71 first night (I had about 2 hours play time, and got 2 AA's at 20%, I was almost to 71 before I started, didn't get the whole level, and one orange into 72nd level). The experience is incredible and my skills are going up super fast. In half an hour tonight my dodge went up something like 10 points mostly fighting light blue, and a few dark blue, small group.

The Pallys cleanse so much against the undead my screen was spammed, the pallys owned the undead in Direwind.

It is so fun just to skill up again, even swimming raised to 266, and so on.

My big complaint is too much running around (not a fan of long time-wasting runs except for the first time maybe), with things that see invisible all over, it was like running to all the Karanas in the old days.

Nice to talk to you all again, been avoiding Alla's lately because my Ad-aware pops constantly making it annoying to use the site. Even with Firefox, drives me crazy.
