Hello all,

I'm an old school EQ player and left shortly after LoY. I've forgotten pretty much everything. So what advice can experienced people on these forums give me?

I plan on running a Drakkin.

Any thoughts on Class I might pick or server to start on? Anything else?

Play whatever class you want they are all cool, and one thing you will want to find as soon as you get the game installed is the EQ button. It has everything on it and is very useful. Put it at the bottom of the screen in a spot you can access it easily.

Basically, make a character you can solo with, as groups just don't happen as much as they used to, "thanks" to Sony. They just don't seem to encourage groups these days.

Many people are happy to just basically solo in the Hot Zones, even at low levels, using the new - and remarkably cheap - healing, hp regen, mana regen, haste and skinspike potions. With the addition of a Temp and some cheap twink gear from the Bazaar you can now slaughter mobs with minimal downtime. Actually, with NO downtime in most cases. People sometimes group to grind a Monster Mission, should they need a particular item that drops (Icewell is the current favourite) but that's about it. Most "Old World" boss mobs that used to take Raid Groups to kill are now soloable or easily killed by, at most, two or three characters.

Speaking about Monster Missions... Sony "accidently" gave these insanely high xp for zero risk, to the extent that people were getting 20+ levels a day. No - seriously! At lvl 20 to 30 a Monster Mission was worth roughly half a level, all for about 20 minutes effort! Naturally, as soon as the expansion had sold sufficiently well, Sony "realised" their error (yeah, right) and totally flattened them with the nerf bat.

Hmmm, I wonder what nifty "Ridiculously Easy XP And/Or Loot" feature the new expansion will "accidently" roll out with? I also wonder how many copies need to be sold to trigger Sony's inevitable announcement of words to the effect of: "gosh, we made that a bit easy - we better patch that guys, sorry!"?

Oh, LDoN missions are dead now, too. People might group for a couple of minutes while a player grabs a mission, but as often as not the group disbands as soon as the mission is set up, and then the aforementioned player just solos it.

Cool thanks for the tips... btw I love to see EQ cynicism alive and well!

Nah I don't plan on doing the grinds I've done so many times before. I think I'll do something new like the serpent's spine zones. To be honest that's the only reason I'm comming back. I wouldn't come back if I had the same leveling grinds to do over again.

SOE has good strategy with TSS expansion. Got me to take another look at the game for awhile. At least till I have to start grinding AA all over again.

I think TSS will be a nice break from WoW for me. I'm one of those players though that have played every game to high end raid level. Right now TSS is like a vacation for me - I want to enjoy it as it sounds cool.

BTW - TSS is non progression right? So joining those servers are out. What is a good strong server right now with a healthy economy?

Hi Thailtana

There was a shade of cynicism there, I admit, but I've seen Sony promise so much with every expansion, getting the player-base all excited, only for it to turn to crap again. How they continue to make mistakes like this with years of experience and 11 expansions under their belt baffles me.

Aye, I'm hoping Seprent's Spine will do the trick too, but I remember a lot of excitement over how the Shrouds would open up the game all over again, revitalising lower levels of play, yadda, yadda. I'm not holding my breath. Well, not too much ;) It's about time they aimed something at the lower level of play, as the game is too top-heavy at the moment. I know from practical experience, as one way to burn up the end of a KEI, for my Druid/Cleric, was to tour the newbie zones and put some buffs on the players there. They used to be busy up until a year or two ago, but are constantly deserted now. Mind you, it has one advantage in that the places you had to form a line to get a camp spot, in zones as varied as East Commonlands and Highpass Keep up to Velketor's Lair and Old Sebilis, are also deserted. Sure removes the screams of "You KS'd me!" :D

This expansion will be non-Progression, because the content on those servers is released slowly after certain criteria are completed by the players.

I've no idea which servers are "best" though, sorry. IF this expansion is as popular as it is supposed to be, the servers could see a huge influx of reactivated characters, which makes predictions rather moot.
