The last expansion I bought was DoDH. Our guild really doesn't use the newer high level stuff so I'm waiting until we do to start buying expansions again.

Yep, I ordered it. I'm back in EQ as bad as I've ever been, so i blindly plop down the money for whatever comes out. God, I'm a sucker.

It's not all about the endgame is it?

End game exploits for moi:

Original: Killed Naggy, Phinney and Cazic (failed Vox)

Kunark: Epics for druid and cleric

Velious: Coldain Shawl #8, Named Dragons in WW

Luclin: very very little, xp grind mostly.

PoP: EP3 + Fire

Ykesha: Killed Innoruuk a few times, bank expansion!

LDoN: Got 10 wins in each camp

GoD: Tradeskills only

OoW: xp grinding, spells, tasks are nice

DoN: Gear. I have one toon in tier 1, but lots of stuff bought with DoN crystals and DoN tradeskills.

DoDH: MMs. Gear. Starting to xp there but nothing else...

PoR: Tradskill trophies and expanded bank...a few other gear quests.

SS: I will likely try to level a Drakkin from 1 to ?

I don't care for the fact they do not allow us to buy a boxed verison. Not paying $30 for a digital download. If I spend $30 I want a box, cd, useless play manual, nifty looking map, etc.

Of course if they leave some sort of way to get exp/money super easy I will probably get suckered into buying it. I am sure there will be some sort of exploit to sucker us into buying it for about 1 week then it will be nerfed.

I'm thinking about it, but being new to the game, for right now Titanium addition has more than enough for me. I'm still learning my way around, so no reason at the moment to buy more.

Interest in EQ has waned a lot, this year, so I thought I would have this expansion be the game's last chance to keep my interest. The way it said one could play from 1-75 in just the new zones is what got me into that line of thinking.

I made room for a Drakkin RNG in my account, too.

I've ordered it for the pre-order item. However, since I only play on test server which has all expansions enabled (which should mean the new expansion but that hasn't been confirmed anywhere that I've seen)I wouldn't have done it except for the item. I reccomend those that want to try out the new expansion come to test for a trial run. It would be great if some of you decided to stick around to make test your home, but I understand it would be difficult to leave your characters that you've spent so much time playing on live servers (and there are no transfers to test server before anyone asks)

Girlfriend says she's gonna buy it for me. Was gonna surprise me with it, but I told her I was gonna buy it the other day and kinda ruined the surprise lol. I'm not gonna go for level 75 yet though...will stay on aa's until the next expansion after this one comes out...which'll be what...2 months? :/

Wife and I bought 6 copies for our accounts. Not sure how much of the expansion we will see right away (still a lot of PoR and a little DoDH we want to explore) but we'll certainly be grinding our way to 75 and knocking out a ton of new AA for a few weeks after release. Already filled up 70 and banked 30 aa in anticipation.

I am actually kind of glad to see the digital download option has the special reward item attached to it. In past expansions we often would wait and buy the boxed version because only the boxed retail version had the special in-game reward. Granted some of those were lame, but some were quite decent as well. We were always puzzled by the fact that with previous expansions if we went to the store and bought the retail box we got a reward whereas if we did digital downloads we did not. Seems that SOE would make more profit off the downloads than those retail boxes.

Besides, at least now I don't have another 6 boxes of useless eq cd-roms stacked up on my shelves. I never even installed most expansions from cd-rom (except Luclin... that expansion was huge). I usually just clicked the option in the advanced section of the patcher and keyed in my little code and was off to the races. The cd-roms were all out of date by release anyway.

The reason the prizes was in the retail and not the download version, is because if it was in the digital download version, would you buy the box? No. Would anyone? No. Well 90% most likely would not, so they could get the free prize.

That's why it's in the retail version, to entice retailers into carrying the product. That way customers will go and buy it from them. This is the reasoning behind this, stated by SOE.

I'm thinking now though that WoW has stolen so much thundar from EQ (over 6.5 million subscribers? come on!), that they finally decided to do away with retail copies. Which is why we finally see the prize in the digi download.

I'm just waiting to see if anyone can get the new spells. If you can get the spells whether you're a player that plays for 1 hour a day or 10 hours a day, with a weak guild or a strong guild or no guild at all then I'll have to buy the expansion and sign my accounts back up. If its the same as every expansion after PoP then I'm not going to bother.

You (and other casual players) should be quite pleased with the TSS spell system. As many may already know, most spells are going to be tiered and increase in power:

Tier 1 - Vendor sold....that's right, your core spells for 71-75 will be on vendors
Tier 2 - Drops off mobs or questable, these spells will also be tradeable so you can pick them up in the bazaar
Tier 3 - Drops from raids

This is great for all players in my opinion. The tier 1 spell is still an upgrade over your previous spell in that line and most people should not have a problem with upgrading to tier 2. If anything, casual players still searching for 69-70 runes should get this expansion asap since it provides them with an easier opportunity to upgrade their existing spells.

This never made much sense to me. The only reason I ever bought the boxed version was for the /claim. No matter what, I have still always had to patch a bunch of files on launch day because those CDs have to be pressed well in advance to the actual launch day. The CDs are outdated before you purchase them because the beta process is still ongoing right up until the expansion goes live. Data is constantly changing as bugs are fixed and zones are updated, so the CDs might as well come packaged with AOL software to illustrate how useless they are.
