Heya EQ fans - I used to play religiously but slowly lost interest about the time Gates of Discord came out. Lately I've been remembering the good times and wondered off-handedly about returning. Is the game pretty much a high-level-only community nowadays? I left off with a 52 Wizard and 40ish Monk. Back then most people I knew were starting to get into raid guilds but I was still happy just doing my own thing.

Has the game changed a lot since GoD? Is LDoN still the place to level? Would I need to buy the most recent expansions to do anything meaningful in-game?

Many thanks for your opinions.

Sony learned a lot with GoD, namely what they screwed up.

LDoN is dead on most servers except for the random "needs". By this I mean, some people will do LDoN to get that one spell or to get that one augment that they need. This usually involves begging friends to do the missions.

Yes, you'll need the newer expansions to get the most out of the game. Go out and buy the Titanium pack which will have all (I think all) of the expansions except for the newest.

Coming back now is a good time as I believe that the newest expansion (set to release in about a week) will open up a lot of grouping and leveling oppurtunities.
