Soloing in PoFireFollow

#1 Sep 07 2006 at 8:40 AM Rating: Good
I am a bard and I have been told that soloing in PoFire is good.
OK... maybe it's great. I dunno.

1. Is it true?
2. Where in PoFire should I go to solo?
3. Any other tips or suggestions ?

It's decent. The place where most bards solo in PoF is tables. The mobs don't cast so you can chant kite them all day. The problem is... it takes all day to chant kite them. You can't swarm kite them (effectively at least). With the highesh HPs they have, you pretty much are chanting all day. If you use melody it's probably the easiest experience you can get post 65, but it's also extremely boring. I'd only use it as a last ditch if you absolutely can't get a group anywhere.

I forgot to ask, but what level are you? You can do Hobgoblins in PoN and I believe still get experience at 70. It's kind of a tradeoff. They're lower level so you'll get less experience per kill and you have to make sure to get rid of the summoners, but they're also swarmable so not QUITE as boring. Also, you'll probably kill them all off really quick and spend a good bit of time waiting for respawns. Soooo, long slow kills or waiting on respawns. I've never actually parsed or really paid attention to which camp will give you experience at a quicker rate, but I think most people prefer to do tables still, probably since you have a chance of getting a group there eventually (or at rugs).

Mind you, this was at lvl 65 and I was more interested in Midnight stones than xp, but I used to switch off between swarming hobgoblins in PoN and the gargoyles at the graveyard. Both seemed fairly equivalent for xp gain over the long haul (I think hobgoblins are more xp each but gargoyles were quicker to gather and kill)

you can swarm the level 60 - 65ish mobs before castle 1 if you have the high enough song.

you can swarm the nest instances if you are good and have two other people to start the exp.

nest = lots of casters = not good for swarming.

also cant use selos there = very dangerous (1 mob can 1 or 2 round most ppl =p)

The only problem with that is the short range of our highest level charm. You have to be pretty much within melee range. So, you'd have to mez your target, pull the swarm way wide, stop on your target and charm, and then swarm it. Not to mention the 200 mana PER CAST requirement. It's not a HUGE amount for some bards, but it's not going to last very long with our (typically) abysmal regen rates.

i dont think you understood what i meant when i was talkign about the casters. caster mobs tend to stop to do thier casting and when they do that they arent in range to be agroed by the charmed mob which is the basis of swarming.
they would instead keep chasing the bard and not hitting the charmed mob.

besides which after thinking about it, arent all the mobs in the nest like 70+?
they wouldnt be charmable anyway as the highest level a bard can charm to is level 68.

I knew exactly what you meant. But the fact that I'm getting 12 aas an hour swarming the nest says it doesn't matter that much.

and no, the nest is not all 70+.

ahh sorry your right, i was just thinking of the instance i usually do for exp. i didnt rake into account the fact that there are other nest instances. would you care to explain how you deal with swarming in the nest? which instances, and what tactics do you use to deal with the casters and that kind of thing? if it really is viable id love to know how its done.

Thread hijackers....nothing to see here in the nest-- you are right can't get much exp. there unless you ready to die a lot....move along now... back to PoFire..it is a much better place to discuss.
