Do you play EQ at work?Follow

#1 Aug 25 2006 at 7:32 PM Rating: Good
I'm at work... and I want to play but these pc's won't handle it. Plus I'd hate to get my boss upset over it. But I was curious if many people actually try to get away with playing EQ while they are at work.

A few minutes of eq isn't worth losing my job over, so I guess the answer is no.

At my current job, no. At my last job, the company sort of went out of business, got taken over by a bonding company and slowly dismantled to skeleton crew. My last about 4 months of employment there I did not have much to do and had a private office, so I did play a bit. But since it was work and someone could come in or need me at any time without notice, I really could not risk an exp grp or exp soloing with my main, so I did lots of tradeskilling and vendor diving and played low level alts instead. I made alot of plat vendor diving those 4 months, and got all my mains tradeskills up to near 200 and 2 over 200 from basically 0.

I found out at the end that the fact that I was always on my computer and looked busy kept me there about 2 months longer than the bonding company originally planned. =)

I used to have a sweet job at a small local ISP...would brong my home computer in to use there and could run EQ, though mostly just leaving it in the Bazaar. Or I'd bring in my laptop. When I was working overnight shifts...forget it, I'd take the phone off the hook and play all night!

You need to be on really good terms with a really lenient boss to pull that kind of stuff off, though.

I know the guys from IT quite well, and surely could convince them to enable the necessary ports from the FW side... BUT, no way I would risk my job. surfing on alla, guildportal and other EQ related sites is ok though :-D

the guys I encountered - who run EQ at work - very often have necros (at least as an alt). So they can solo quite well (without endangering other people when they need to afk all of a sudden), and can FD once the boss calls...

edit: typo

Come to think of it, my overnight shifts at the ISP was around the same time my necro was created. Smiley: waycool

My job pays the bills. EQ provides little else than fun time filler.

It would be incredibly stupid to play any video game at work. You might as well plant a big 'fire me' sign outside your cube.

I do surf this web site and I've also hit eqtraders and mapfiend. That is as far as I will go.

Back when I worked at my old job (IT manager), I used to play in between service calls/meetings. That was usually anywhere from 30-60 minutes a day in 10 minute intervals. I made some good bazaar cash doing that.

The other times that I got to play was when my guys and I would put in new software/equipment overnight or on a weekend (they played too) we would start an install/copy/whatever and then group up and go quest or just kill stuff. We had a War/Cle/Nec/Enc group and it was awesome.

I left that job early this year (willingly) and haven't tried it at my new job yet. But, who knows...

Wish I could, but the Navy monitors their computers' activities fairly closely. Would definitely help whittle the long hours I spend on watch away....

Necro main, guilty as hell. FD, walk away from the comp, come back 2 hours later and no worries. Just rebuff and go at it again. It use to be annoying when 2 minutes of FD killed your pet. I did a lot of root / rotting in those days.

I hate to say it, but I work at a job that allows me to play EQ for 6-7 hours/day 5 days a week. It's actually gotten to the point where I don't play EQ anywhere but at work anymore. I had cancelled my account a while ago (right after PoP) and when I realized that I could play EQ at work, I reactivated my account and haven't look back. The people I work with make jokes about me playing EQ all the time, but believe me my shifts go very quickly!

My job must be boring. =)

I own my own company , so if i decide to play EQ at work its at my own discretion.

edit: spelling

I used to, laptop on dialup 4TW! The bosses knew about it, and didn't care too much since overnighters on weekends was a long stint at the desk. My current position doesn't allow for it since I work outside most of the time now.

i teach middle school, so i am unable to play at work.
Besides, our computers are Pentium ones with Windows 95, so we're hopelessly outdated.

My boss's desk if 500 miles away, this year they bought me a brand new Dell Optiples. Quite a nice machine considering its a Dell. However this year they also took me off Cable and put me on a Satellite dish. Lattency sucks, and if it rains, limited connectivity. Satellite is nothing but problems if you ask me.

So, once upon a time I oould and did. but now, due to upgrades, it does not seem likely.

I often play during my lunch hour, which is allowed. I bring in my laptop which runs EQ quite nicely. Other than that, it would be quite dumb to risk a job over a game.

I played on a starband sat dish for almost 4 years till I moved back into town. Yeah when it first started raining it would go out but other then that was not real bad. Just that 1 to 3 sec delay in hitting the button and when your spell would go off. No way you could play main healer, but the rest was ok

The job I have allows me to play at work all be it using a satellite system to do so. The lag is the worst thing to deal with but I have had some very nice group's and even raids doing this.

I run my trader at work on my third computer all day and play EQ at lunch on my main system some times.
