ITs my understanding this new expansion will be download only? That being the case I have no plans to buy it. Not paying $30 for a expansion unless its storebought. Now if they offer a $5 discount for digital download then I might consider. Even so there is really no content I look forward to. I would lay money on it that any gear looted from a mob under lvl 40 will be junk because it will have strict required levels on it (much like the new gear dropping off new named in kunark hotzones). I also imagine the new zones will be rather laggy, and my toon isn't 70 yet so I am not even thinking about 75.

No content worth looking forward too? Where in gods green Earth did you get that from? Everything I have read says this expansion has more quests/missions than any previous expansion, and for all levels

If you play EQ, you can download the expansion - all it takes is Internet access and a valid credit card.

the main thing i hate is i keep buying them for 4 of my accounts the other 4 was titanium accounts so $20 each not bad but the other 4 was $20 for pok exp plus $20 for the first 3 exp, and hen $20 per exp after a couple i think were $30. i'm sure it's about $160 per account so far plus monthly fees. and the real kicker is 90% of each expansion after ldon was for lvl 50+ only a littl efor lower. and every one of my chacters is still under 51. 3 will be 51 in a month if i get time to play.

right now i have been playing around with shadow bane and anarchy online both games are 100% free now except for expansions. but you can play a lot of levels till then.

Helpful hint: they say that every expansion. E.g., this is at least the third expansion for all levels and a new class in the same expansion.

I echo the sentiment that I am disappointed they aren't selling it in retail stores. I am not sure when I will buy it now.

Like I said in my first post I figure the content for people under lvl 50 will be subpar. Since SOE has gotten strict with the required levels on gear I doubt any gear worth equiping will drop before you hit lvl 50. I imagine if you loot a sword from a lvl 45 mob it will probably ahve a required lvl 40 on it and be junk at lvl 40. I never did mind the recommended levels on gear, but I hate the required lvls. Too many items with a required lvl are junk because nobody wants it when they are high enough to use it.

Also as I said in my first post I figure the lag (ok speed issues since its not internet lag for those who want to get technical) will be poor in the new zones just because its a new expansion. I suppose this is not something I can blame on SOE as I am in need of a new video card (currently using geforce fx 5600).

Far as the high levels go there is plenty of hunting for high lvls right now. I also figure this expansion will pull away the people currently doing Dain MM's, which I love to do.

Having played regularly for over 5 years, I have to say that I agree with your skepticism, fronglo.

I think the concept of recommended and required levels on new gear was necessary, but as usual, I think they went overboard with the idea.

I still love EQ, and still enjoy playing it with my wife and friends, but I find that I am definitely more jaded when it comes to SOE and their proclamations.

after all this time with the $30 exp start price for each or most expansions that came out, i think it's time sony drops the prices on the expansions

Back to the original question:

Yes, there will be a preorder item:

SOE wrote:
Buy Serpent's Spine and receive the Orb of Draconic Calling.

All Players who purchase the Digital Download of EverQuest The Serpent's Spine will receive the exclusive Orb of Draconic Calling. This Orb will teleport you to Crescent Reach once per day.

More infos on the expansion here.

Edit: Complete list of expansion freebie items here.

Well unless you have no CC and you are on a dial up Hehehe even so I am not getting anyhow, will be over crowded and laggy as heck I am sure. I am 70L but still don't have my 69 and 70 level spells so whats the point and get higer level if you don't get spells to go with it?

here's one option for none credit card players sony should release a time card with the cd key for the expansion. it wouldn't cost them to much just to add the key and charge the extra amount,

or instead of paying $45 for a 90 day card 'guessing on cost' put an option on station web site to use a new card instead of getting the 3 months ,get the expansion and one month. exp cost about $30 and one month $15 still cost $45, they still get the $45 from you and you just have to by another 90day card in a month. only cost them a bit of time to make option on web site and trade cd key for 2 months of the 3 month card.

Just get someone with a debit/credit card to order it for you, and give them the cash. I do it for friends who play EQ.
