it means break out the long-johns and parkas, Velious is on the way. eventually. i'm still not sure when the earliest date for its opening is; we may have to wait a bit before SOE opens it.

At least it took a good month to open Velious.

What kills me is that there are really only two guilds doing all of this. Pretty nice of them to start a progression server for just two guilds...

Actually I think other guilds are interested, but these few are jumping to the punch first, espcially though the earlier content. They will have to slow down a bit after PoP, and other guilds will show up from time to time as well. GoD will defintley allow catch up.

Actually, once they get to Luclin it should slow down a bit. Getting those keys takes a while, even for the hard-core players.

As for the 2 guilds ripping through everything, I can't say I'm suprised. I was kind of hoping I'd get to catch up a bit before Velious comes out but that doesn't look possible at this point. But to be honest, after only 2 weekends of playing I'm already getting bored again.

I think the sleeper has at least five or six guilds that are trying raid content.

there are several on the Sleeper trying raid content, but the vast majority of raid content was unlocked/downed first by one guild.

true enough, but I don't really see anything wrong with that, nor does it mean that the progression server is made for them only. there are thousands of regular people on the prog servers, and hundreds raiding.

expect pharadar down in maybe an hour max, btw.

Yup, only thing holding up sleeper now are those slacker Shadow Knights. Notice the guy who did the SK epic on Combine is a Shaman?

I read somewhere else that the EQ Progression page only lists the "majority guild". So FoH only had 18 members there, but there were people from other guilds. I don't know the total count of people on the raid.

there were only maybe 20 or so inzone max, FoH didn't really bring along other guilds.

Which brings me to my next point.

I don't think it's actually possible to clear VP in kunark gear with kunark spells and 20 people. They either had researched luclin nukes on all their wizzies, or sploited.

There were 16 of them (!), some of them without VP keys, and they warped past everything to get to Phara'Dar. They didn't "clear VP", and they had lots of gear that wasn't Kunark era, and spells as well, including Aego and KEI. It was a cheap and dirty kill. Still, 16 people...

Velious opens August 28, dev has confirmed.

Maybe a dumb question, but how would you get non-Kunark gear on a progression server???

Oh, so many ways. For one thing, they left in zones like Jaggedpine and the (new) Freeport sewers. There was even a *much* later instance in Qeynos Hills that was heavily farmed, and people who got into PoK through hacks. In Kunark, the drop tables were left the same as on the other servers, so the "hot zones" dropped much higher gear than the era, and spells in places like Seb included Luclin. Add in the fact that even the old gear have had focus effects placed on them - and that melee augments, from much later expansions, are freely available - its not really fair to compare "clearing VP" with what it was in the old days.

Yep. You can buy some serious aug's from a guy in South Qeynos. Haven't really looked at them closely since I have no money anyway.

He is located by the Gypies who camp around the fire at night. or somewhere around them.

These aug's were never part of the earlier game and I don't think augs were introduced until LDON...

Wait a sec, people can hack into PoK? I would think SOE would seriously frown on that if they caught them.

heh, that wouldn't surprise me.

Regarding the spells from later expansions, I read somewhere else that they left the tradeskill recipes for the spells in the game. Since the components can drop in Seb and Vek (for example), I read that they were making the spells via the tradeskill.

yep, pinz.

IV (the sleeper guild) cleared vp without them, though.
