Is it possible to trick a LDON into giving you a lower lvl version somehow, perhaps using a shroud?

Yes, shrouding down works. but you do get less points and still have to be within the 10 levels limit.
a friend of mine uses this trick to farm points for his 2 box Cleric that he is trying to gear up in the 1480 point gear, he goes in with 3 toons (cleric shrouded) and wipes the place out with his main.

Depends on what you meaning by "tricking". If you want to shroud down, get the LDoN and then remove the shroud and go in it will not let you do that. Say for instance you get 3 level 60's and you all shroud to 50 and get the LDoN. If you all then unshroud and try to enter your LDoN it will not let you in. You get a message about not being the right level range.
If you all shroud to 50, get the LDoN and go in staying level 50 you can do that but I'm not sure why you would want to since shrouds are so underpowered.

you can also use the shrouds to solo a ldon. get two folks to shroud down 10 levels, get the adventure, and go to town--you don't shroud at all. i'm not sure, but i ithink as soon as you get the adventure you can disband. i wait until zoning into the adventure to disband.
wasn't too bad at 65 with the right AA on a collect. at 67, mobs hitting a tad harder and slow down the adventure significantly.

Don't sound like it will do what I had hoped. Basically had planned on having group shroud to say lvl 50, then unshroud back to normal levels (52 to 57).
Yea it would be pointless to shroud to 50 and stay as shroud, they are way to underpowered to be all that useful. About the only one I can stand to use is the Goblin Rogue.
