Everquest will not go away (from my computer)Follow

OK
After a really bad run in with SOE customer service I cancelled my account (ironically the run in occured while trying to update my billing info so I could keep playing), and removed all SOE programs from my computer.

I thought that was it but now whenever I try to update Mcafee it runs the Everquest patcher. Also I tried to download Napster and this also causes the everquest patcher to run. And even funnier whenever the patch for WoW tries to run the Everquest patcher runs instead.

The problem is there are no files with the name Everquest or EQ showing up on my computer (even showing hidden files). I previously had a problem with EQ putting a file named simply program on my root but that is not there anymore.

SOE technical support says they cannot help me....I have no account!!!
Anyone have any ideas?

BS. even when cancelled, they still have to help you with solving that issue.

Thanks I didn't know there was a tech support forum for EQ on these boards. I will post there.

unwilling is the better word, yes...probably just as unwilling as AOL's CS a few years back, when un-installing AOL was a nightmare...

be safe :)

take detailed notes and file a complaint if they continue to give you the run around as they will.

do a registry search for eq, soe, sony, sony online, everquest and see what turns up for each one. careful just deleting the sony only ones as there are some drivers you may wish to keep from sony that will be in the registry. as for eq, soe, sony online, and everquest you should be able to read the tag and delete them with a fair degree of safety.

that is a start.

As far as I understand it (which may not be far Smiley: banghead ), the everquest patcher program downloads missing files into the same directory from which it was executed. Let it run long enough to download a few files, then go look for them by name.

I don't know how it would have happened, but the patcher, everquest.exe, I believe, could have been renamed to anything.exe and would probably still function.

Does it also run anytime you access the internet, or only when you are trying to update or download some other product?

Programs don't start on their own - something makes them start.

Sounds like a hardrive problem. Run a complete hardware diagnostic and a defrag.
