Thought I would share the ways I chose to improve tradeskills; there may be other / better / cheaper / faster ways, but these were / will be fine for me. You will need several expansions (GoD for Abysmal Sea, DoN for Cultural Smithing), although most ingredients may be farmed / bought in old world zones.

Baking (current skill 176):

  • Baking Freebie in Abysmal Sea to 54
  • Beer Braised Bear / Lion / Wolf to 68 (Bear, Lion and Wolf Meat as well as Short Beer can be bought in Shadow Haven - Daliea Saeiersa for meats, Bilkel Biddinight for beer - and several other places)
  • Then I skipped everything inbetween and continued with Fish Rolls to 135 (Bat Wings and Fresh Fish can both be bought in PoK) as it seemed the easiest, fastest and cheapest way
  • Filleted Bear / Lion / Wolf to 143 (buy the Filleting Knife in Bazaar or craft it yourself by smithing, trivial 76)
  • Bear / Lion / Wolf Fillet in Cream to 152 (Cream is trivial at 83, Creamy Fennel Sauce at 75; all ingredients for this can be bought in PoK)
  • Patty Melt to 191 (can be made with Bear / Lion / Wolf Meat, buy the Non-Stick Frying Pan in Bazaar or craft it yourself by smithing, trivial 91)
  • After 191, I will continue with Halas 10lb meat pie to 226 (buy the Pie Tin in Bazaar or craft it yourself by smithing, trivial 35); this will be harder as you will have to harvest eggs for the Clump of Dough and Mammoth Meat

Brewing (current skill 161):

  • Brewing Freebie in Abysmal Sea to 54
  • Fermented Yarrow to 74 (Yarrow can be bought at Severg O`Danos in PoK)
  • Vegetable Oil to 102 (Vegetables are easily crafted with baking, trivial 15, ingredients can be bought in PoK)
  • Fetid Essence to 122 (Fishing Grubs can be bought in PoK)
  • Vodka to 135 (Short Beer can be bought at Bilkel Biddinight in Shadow Haven and many other places)
  • Hulgarsh to 155 - you may want to skip this and go directly to
  • Ginesh to 168
  • After 168, I will continue with Shar Vahl Essence (Payala Fruit is a ground spawn in Shadeweaver's Thicket) to 187 and
  • Minotaur Hero's Brew to 248 (all ingredients can be bought in PoK)

Tailoring (current skill 76):

Didn't have a look at tailoring past 158 yet...

Pottery (current skill 122):

Any hints for how to continue from here on are welcome!

Smithing (current skill 64):

What next?

Haven't started Fletching and Jewelcraft by now, but I think that I will start with the Abysmal Sea Freebies again...

nice post, just some alternate routes I have found that may be a little easier.

Baking - at 191 you can either do storm salmon fillets till 202 or jump into albino crawfish pies till 255. Either of these just require fished items albino crawfish being pretty easy to get in CC with a good fishing skill. The pies will still require eggs, just farm basalik (sp) eggs since they will yield 15 each combine.

Brewing - while fishing for the albino crawfish, save the fungus covered fish you will get as well. Fish fungus wine trivs out around 282 and will save you alot of ground spawn camping (kaladim constitutionals). Also, if you are working baking first, you may want to do jumjum spiced beer until 162 instead of the vodka, hulgarsh, and ginish. The jumjum stalks needed can be bought in SH as well as RV, and you can use your sucessful combines for the misty thicket picnic baskets if you want to max out baking.

Aside from the fishing, and the eggs, these routes are store bought. GL

For smithing the cheapest is to do the Shar Val Smithing quests. This requires tons of farming in Hollowshade but will get you eventually to 248. Depending on your race, you could go with DoN cultural pieces but these are not sellable to NPCs. Cultural Sewing Kits might work for you at the moment too.

Once my brewer got to 268 I have lost count the number of Kaladim Constitutionals I have combined. Wisdom at 255 and NO skillups.

For tailoring you are really stuck. DoN augs can help, I did some Lemming bags after I was done with Wus

Once I started these at 270ish (had enough for 720 combines and didnt want to fish again right away) I got to 297 in 1 run. My int is at 305 though, so that could help explain some of it.

Brewing: I would not even bother with the newby brewer quest in Abysmal Sea. You can buy fishing grubs from the Gnome vendor near the small bank and water from they guy across from the Brew Barrel in PoK. To go from zero to 122 cost, after sell back, about 10 plat. Im not kidding! Making Fetid Essence is the quick and dirty way to 122 in brew.

Fletching: This is the cheapest. If you plan to actually shoot the arrows, you may want to look for different receipes. But if your just selling them off then try this after the Abysmal Sea Freebie:

Triv / Point/ Shaft/ Fletch/ Noc
68 / Field / bone / round/ large
82/ field/ wood / shield / small
102/ hooked / wood / round / large
122/ field / wood/ wood vane / large
135 / field / ceramic / round / large
162 / field / wood / Bone vane / large
202 / field / wood / ceramic vane / large

Thanks SamAndDan for the Fletching advice, will try that on Thursday!

Anyone got an idea how to increase Pottery (easy, cheap) after 122?

For the next part of smithing, go with fine plate until around 190 or so (I forgot where the cap is). After that, you could go with velium bits to around 220 or so, or just go straight to shadowscream armor.

I had started a brewing tutorial that I had only part done. (Story of my life) anyway, here it is, with all its warts.

Brewing Quick, Easy and Cheap!

I will assume that you know the basics of any trade skill: Never stack anything, get your wisdom or intellegence as high as you possibly can, get a pair of opal steins from the bazaar if your ugly and have no charisma, and that pressing the control button and clicking on a stack of anything will give you one of that item. But with the new Tradeskill Interface, all things for tradeskillers is easier now. (Thanks to all who helpped on that!) That said, lets get, um, brewing! One last assumption. We are starting at a brewing level of zero. Do not put any practice points into brewing!!! Spending your hard earned points on this is, well, pointless. As you will see.

First you need to get to the Plane of Knowledge (PoK). Have at least 3 empty 8 slot (preferably 10 slot) bags or boxes. Got to Caden Zharik at loc -340, 755. He is the gnome trader by the little bank. Buy ten stacks of fishing grubs. With good charisma, you will pay about 6 gold for ten STACKS of grubs. Then go to Barbarian across from the brew barrel (on the East side) and buy ten stacks of Flask of Water. Turn around and proceed to put one water and one fishing grub into the barrel and combine. Your making Fetid Essence and it trivials at 122. Once you learn the receipe, save it in your favorites as you will be making it for a while. Save you successes, there wont be many at first, but these will allow you to reduce your total cost. You can sell back to a vendor for 1 gold 4 silver per stack.

It took me 11 stacks with a 226 wisdom to go from zero to 122. Net cost after I sold back my sucesses? A whopping 3 plat and change!!!

Next it is a trip to the bazaar or if you have a character that forages, save those vegetables! If you are one of the unfortunate souls, like me, who doesn’t forrage, you can buy vegetables pretty cheap in the bazaar. Many times you can get them for as low as 3 plat a stack. Purchase 5 or so stacks and then we are off to Shar Vahl or any other location with Short Beer for sale. You will enter the Shadeweavers thicket from the PoK book. Turn around and head toward the teepee’s and then up the hill to the city. No worries about faction here! The Vah Shir are very accepting. Once in the city go right and then head north. Your looking for Jharia Taimil in a bar by the north gate. (Alternately you could go to South Qyenos, lots of vendors there, or to Zok Lillis in Gukta.) We are going to make Vodka!! A bottle, Short Beer (2 unstacked), vegetables, flask of water. Obviously your going to need 2 stacks of Short Beer for every stack of Vegetables that you have. Hit combine and hope for the best! This trivials at 135. Keep your successes, don’t drink them! We will need them later. Now head back to PoK!

You knew I couldn’t keep everything cheap forever and here is where the price goes up a bit. While at various vendors, they always seem to have any number of Undead Froglok Tounge (UFT). This sells for 6 gold 8 silver. Buy 3 stacks of them and get ready to produce Broog’s Old Peculiar! This smooth and unusual drink trivials at 158. On the north side of the East Trade building (where the brew barrel is) are merchants that sell all the stuff you need and may have the UFT’s too! Combine a Cask, Malt, the UFT and a flask of water. Hit combine and start the race to 158!

Remember that Vodka you made? You are going to need it soon, but first, a small side trip. Clean out 4 back packs and head to the Qyenos stone. Now, even if your KOS in Qyenos, your just going to be out killing level 3 yard trash, so if you use your head, you shouldn’t have to worry about faction here. Your target? Fire beetles. Specifically the Fire Beetle Eyes. These little guys don’t stack so you have to have a lot of space for them. If you have a little money and want to buy them for a gold a piece, most newbies working the yard will be happy to help. Especially if your able to buff and or heal them. It saves time so you can get back to PoK for your big combines! Your making a Bleeding Brain today! Trival at 168, Combine the Fire beetle eye, a shotglass, spices and vodka. Spices are from one of the Ironstoves on the south side of the East Trader building. Shot glasses are from the bartender inside that building or from the traders on the north side. Finally, you get to enjoy your success or have the fun of watching others enjoy your success. This drink is like sucking down rocket fuel! Wow, whatta punch! I dropped them around the bank and watched people stagger off. Pretty funny!

Sadly, the easy part is done. Now, you can make a return trip to the bazaar and look for the cheapest of any of the following: Innothule Mushrooms or Swamp Vegetables (both are forraged in the Innothule swamp or are ground spawn), Frost Turnip (Everfrost forrage), Deadbone Barley (Field of Bone forrage), or Payala Fruit (forrage and grounds spawn in Shadeweavers Thicket near the bandit camp). Any of these with one flask of water yield various essences. You may sell them to a vendor or to others in the tradeskill community. These all trivial at 186 except the Payala Fruit which is at 187.

Thats all the further I got... but it should give everyone a decent start! Best of luck and brew on!

Rogues have to do quite a few tradeskills to mid 150s for their 1.5, so I have some experience in this ;)

Baking -
Get a filleting knife and buy meat straight to 143. Skip the freebie and everything in between, meat is cheap.

Brewing -
Again, skip everything and just do Fetid Essence to 122.

Where you go after that with those is up to you and there are several good guides for it. But yeah, don't waste time with the rest of it, just do those single combines until they triv.

Pottery -
Small bowls like you said. After that, Poison vials (sealed trivs at 188). The unfired vials stack and even if you're not a rogue there's a market for fired Sealed Poison Vials if you sell them for under 6p (the cost of Sealed Vials from a vendor). These require a farmed skin, Zombie Skin is the most popular because they stack and at 9sp 9cp each you can usually vendor dive several stacks of them in a few minutes. After vials, unfired casserol dishes to 199.

Smithing -
After banded, do fine plate, then enchanted velium bits to 222. If you have done some PoP raiding, you can repeat the first part of the Aid Grimel quest till 227. After that there's several options, all of which are either expensive, time consuming, or both.

Tailoring -
Go to Jagged Pine Forest. Kill all the poachers. They drop tons of hides, all LQ or better. Use the LQ and MQ pelts for Leather Padding for your fine plate. Use the HQ bear for Hand Made Backpacks, then use the HQ Lion for Tailored Quivers. Use the HQ wolf for either Leather Padding or Poison Vials, they don't really do anything special on their own.

Jewel Crafting -
Everything to 200 is vendor bought. I went to Abysmal and just sat their buying, combining, and selling back whatever the cheapest metal/gem combo was that wasn't trivial. With selling my successes, took me about 3.5k and three hours to get to 200 (useful for making the blessed water combines for DoN augs).

Poison -
Everything up to 275 is buyable off merchants. 275 - 300 farm Scorpikis Venoms and Succulent Saps in OT. Note this is a class skill and you do NOT need the New Tanaan AAs to raise this and another trade over 200.

Currently I'm at:
Poison 296
Smithing 227*
JC 200
Pottery 163*
Baking 143**
Brewing 122**
Tailoring 93**

*Currently working on
**Haven't touched since my 1.5 tasks but will probably go back to.

Other than Tailoring, most tradeskills are pretty easy to get to 200. Since you need AAs to raise more than one tradeskill above 200, I would think that you'd be willing to investigate skill paths 200+ fairly thoroughly rather than relying on a genertal guide like this if you're willing to sink 3 AAs in it.

Also, let me note:
SALVAGE IS HUGE. If you're over level 51 and seriously working on tradeskills, put the 15 AA into Salvage 3. Otherwise you're just wasting money. Period. End of story.

The mastery AAs are excellent but less important. Get them if you're working on expensive combines. I have Black Smithing Mastery 3 and I'm 6 for 7 on Grandmaster's DoN combines (all have trivials over 300) with a skill of just 227.

For all you tailors farming pelts, here's a quest that can turn those low and medium quality hides into HQ ones (cat, bear, and wolf only): https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/quest.html?quest=2317

However just an fyi, I'm pretty sure you need to be a frog to do this (not just illusion).

Hope this helps

I agree with Valys that the best way to get your pottery to 188 is via poison vials.

For zombie skins, I find that farming the Unrest courtyard or Nadox as two of the better ways to accumulate skins.

For Unrest you can either just slaughter the courtyard guys, or you can also get zombie skins off of the undead in the Unrest instanced zone. If you go the instanced route, that way you get some good experience along with the skins.

For Nadox go to the "safe hallway" (go left out of the lava river, past the 2 luggalds guarding the room, run straight through that room, and you end up in a hallway leading down to undead trolls) and start pulling the undead trolls (first pull is the only one with an add) out of the room. Most of the mobs are light blue to a level 70, drop gems, cash, & weapons, and they have a few named in there (including a corpse popper). Its a good spot to farm the zombie skins because you earn some cash and experience at the same time.

With regards to brewing, the OOW brewing recipes are a pretty cheap alternative to doing the Mino brews (if you get bored of the same repetition). Plus they are a good way for you to increase your drinking skill and help you run a bit faster.

Good luck !

To add to the OPs well done post, with the release of TSS, there are freebie quests in Crescent Reach for each major tradeskill to get to 54. While this is the same functionality, the Abysmal Sea quests still need to be completed to do some more advanced GoD combines. So if you are looking to skill up to 54 for free, I would recommend doing the Abysmal Sea quests since they still have the extra benefit.

Just wanted to add that for the poison vials, instead of using the skins you can use Crowe's Special Brew which is buyable off of the pottery supply vendor in CR now. It's really cheap and so much easier then trying to farm skins.

Tailoring 158 -> 190

Kill the Cave Recluse spiders in G Mesa.

Trivial 190 is:

Celestial Essence (1 Celestial Solvent + 1 The Scent of Marr, vendor bought for about 2 pp)

2 Spider Silk
1 Mesa Recluse Spinneret

to make Spider Silk Filter (then destroy the finished results)

I like to do TS "combos" as well when I know I'm going to need to farm something. For instance:

I wanted to take my baking to 200 when it had gotten to making patty melts. I decided to skip all the subcombines and extra farming of making Halas 10 lb Meat Pies by doing Griffon and Ananconda melts. Same components as patty melts except it uses griffon or anaconda meat (obviously) so it's all buyable in CR except the non-stick frying pan and meat.

At the same time I got my tailoring to 76 and I wanted to go straight to tailored quivers because it's an easy combine (the patterns stack to 20 and are cheap, the HQ cat skins stack to 20 and are easy to farm). So, I went to Nedaria's Landing and started killing every griffon, cat and snake I could find. The griffons drop meat pretty often and the cats drop HQ cat skins often. There are also wolves there so you can get plenty of wolf meat too if you want to go the meat pie route as supplemental skill up attempts. I got my baking from 135 to 198 in no time at all and got my tailoring to 90 something just as quick.

If you were only concerned about baking, then the meat pies would probably be easier and quicker, but if you're working on multiple TSes at once, it's a good idea to look at how the recipies from the various TSes work together to see what your best skill-up route is.

Not sure how I managed to miss this thread, but well done bbot! Smiley: boozing

As a sufferer of Alt-itis, I have dabbled around with TSing, and found EQTraders to be invaluable when trying to find the cheapest or most efficient way to bump up skills. The only area I find slightly lacking is their Tinkering section, but it seems that Tinkering is more of an oddity than a respected TS, IMHO.
