Can someone pls explain "Progression server" to me?Follow

#1 Jul 19 2006 at 12:55 PM Rating: Decent
Ok i have a few questions about the progression servers. I am thinking of maybe starting a character there but not sure yet and here is why. First off i know when you start the game there are the newbie armor quests to do. Thats fine i plan on doing them if i start a character. But i know that the content is unlocked by defeating certain end game bosses like lord/naggy/ lady/vox ect ect to "Progress the server" Now in order to do this it usually is a guild that will complete it right. So my question is if it is progressed what will happen to the other guilds that havent defeated the end game boss will they just bypass it since it is already open? The reason i am asking is i want to have the sense of bieng able to accomplish each progression individually and i really don't know how to go about doing such a thing. Do i make a character in hopes that i get into a guild on the server that will do all the progressions? Or will i be stuck like the other servers and just bypass all the content because i can't solo naggy/vox ect ect? But it will still be open. I hope i get some response to this questions becuase i really would like to try out the new servers but am afraid that they may be just like the regular ones.

It "progresses the whole server," so no, you don't get to do it yourself for progression. However, you can still do it if you want.

Also, I believe the newbie armor quests are not in the game but that's conjecture on my part.

Aye, no newbie armor quests are in as of now. And yes, one guild can progess the server and you may be a bit late getting in to join of those guilds, but you can still run through all the old content, which is a good time in and of itself.

Server starts with *mostly* original content. There are some niceties that did not exist at the time. You get the Ykesha bank for example, and there are weapon augs available for sale.

At each stage there are certain incidents that need to be completed by anyone. Once the triggers are completed (and one trigger could be minimum time), then next stage opens up for everyone.

So far the triggers for opening up the original planes were to defeat the main bosses in Permafrost, Sol A and Kedge Keep.

The original plane's bosses of Hate and Fear then were defeated.

The only trigger remaining for the Kunark expansion is the minimum time, which is completed July 28th iirc.

Until Kunark, the only equipment available is stuff from the original continents and the planes of Fear and Hate (Sky too?)

Once this happens, then EVERYONE can visit Kunark, start an Iksar character and do anything that you could do in Kunark.

To open up the next expansion there are several more triggers. I do not have the links handy but visit SOE's website where they have the progression timelines.

There are no newbie armor quests. The NPCs needed to start the quest(not the guildmaster, but the other NPC) are mysteriously absent.

Original content is everything that was in the Original release (more or less). the 'more' being stuff like Jaggedpine Forest, and all the zone revamps like Lavastorm, Freeport and Ro Desert.

So you get the continents of:
Antonica
Faydewer
Odus

With all the indiginous player characters that were around during the original release (no playable Frogloks)

You get all the orginal equipment available (no newbie armor quests).

What he means is you can do anything from the original release. Newbie armor quests were not part of that so you cannot do those. Most of the old quests (that are not broken beyond repair) can be done.

You cannot do epic weapon quests for example until Kunark opens.

Ok so you meant original zones. I understand but what i dont understand is how do you progress through the game on a individual basis is it any different than the other servers?

Seriously? I mean you can go to the old world zones, because there's lots of people there right now. It's kind of the concept behind the servers.

Progress is SERVER WIDE. ONCE AN EXPANSION IS OPEN IT IS OPEN FOR ALL.

You always have the option of doing the triggers after someone else, but it is NOT REQUIRED.

You can start a character 3 months from now and move right into whatever expansion the progression is currently on (Ykesha probably...)

There you go now i understand what are these triggers you mention like what is the first one you get?
#12 Jul 19 2006 at 1:35 PM Rating: Good
First triggers were Naggy, Vox and Phinny. Then Inny and CT open Kunark. Kunark neesd each class to obtain an epci all the dragons to be downed and VP completed to open Velious. Velious needs all the armor quests completed and ST and ring quest and shawl and.... the idea is all the major stuff from each expansion gets done before the next one opens, but without being in one of the guilsd rushing through don't expect to actually take part in the progerssion. The real value is that this is a fresh server with only the loot that can come from the previously opened expansions, giving it that old-school feel for the most part. If you're looking to race to the forefront, though, you may be a bit late, as the top guilds have been fifity since a week after launch and downed the triggers a week after that. They are way ahead of the majority.

I am not really looking to race or anything like that just looking to maybe start a character up and get into a guild that hasn't raced to the forefront but one that will do the "triggers" per se is that possible?

1. Go kill Vox, Naggy, and Phinney to open up Hate and Fear.
2. Then kill Innoruuk and Cazic Thule.
Then wait til July 28.
Then kill all the Kunark Dragons and get every epic weapon. Would be hard for one character to do.
Then wait until Velious opens.

1 and 2 have been done on both servers already.

Once the "triggers" have been completed, they aren't "triggers" anymore, just regular game content. Since Naggy, Vox, et. al. have been defeated on both progression servers already, they don't trigger anything anymore, except old-school uber loot.

Like BT say, unless you are in one of the top guilds, you wont be near doing any of the actual triggers. Some guilds still do the triggers and even get Broadcast Messages about their feats.

For the average person though, you are forced to start fresh, where you would have to groupsin these old-world zones, struggling with Orcs or Gnolls once again. People calling for Breeze and Clarity instead of KEI (so far hehe)

People actually squabble over rawhide drops, and roll on CB belts. Kinda stupid, but pretty funny.

It is essentially a test of your playing ability, where you do not have super twink options and must rely to a certain extent on what is available, and it is not much at the start.

Ok i understand that so what do i do start a character and ask /ooc are there any guilds recruiting that will do the progression ect ect? is that the way to do it?

Yeah, usually you make a character and start playing.

There are guilds recruiting. Ask them what they are into. Some just like the starting over aspect. Some are building raids to take down bosses.

What you do not have is a top-heavy population of level 70s and no one to group with at level 15.

Ok thanks hopefully i can get into a guild that will take down the end game bosses

Here's the progression server timeline for Combine: http://eqplayers.station.sony.com/prog_flash.vm?sid=152

Although the triggers have been completed to open up the kunark expansion, the devs decided that kunark won't open until a specific date. At the end of July iirc. Such a system will probably be in place for all the forthcoming expansions, as the powergamers push hard to quickly open the next expansions.

At this point, you probably need to be level 50 to get into the guilds taking down the "end game bosses."

No, it's not any different than the other servers, just limited in content temporarily.
