Strange situation:

Doing a LDoN with friends. I was the last to enter the dungeon.

I get in, group fighting two mobs, one of them mezzed - which I didn't know, by the way.

Now what happened:

/assist <main tank name here> --> main tank did not fight the mezzed mob
/pet attack
/attack off

Then I sat down to mem a spell.

Sorry, master, cannot awaken XXX. (or some message like that)
XXX (mezzed mob) has been awakened by Korromprok!

Anyone EVER seen something like this? My group blamed me for not knowing how to play etc etc... Smiley: disappointed

Did I do something wrong? What did I do at all?

Hazard a guess...

You might have suffered a lag spike (i get them every now and again just after zoning) and you hit the mob before the /attack off and /sit command took effect.

maybe...

This happened to me once. It turned out to be the warrior cycling through the targets to taunt the second mob, having already secured aggro on the mob everyone was killing. He only had it targeted for a second or two to taunt but that was exactly when I assisted him. Bad luck mostly. At least that is what I tell myself. :)

If I had attacked a mob by /assist, it would have been the one the main tank was fighting, not the mezzed one... Smiley: confused

Target-cycling sounds like the most logical answer. I've been the guilty tank on a couple of occasions like that.

If your pet woke it up.. it would say your pet's name.. not yours.

And why "/attack off"? Do you not have autoattack off for assist?

My theory is yes, the tank was cycling targets and you personally whacked it with your dagger/staff when you /assist-ed.

Pets will always refuse to attack an mezed target.. even if you mez it while they are already meleeing it.. they will not wake it.

The clue is that you personally woke it.. spell or melee by you.

Never trust a tank with your assist.

Our tanks and MA's regularly change targets to taunt or check aggro, pre choose the next target etc.

If you casually hit assist and start attacking there is a good chance you will hit a mezzed mob.

I always /assist then check HoTT and the health bar. If the mob doesn't seem to have the right tank as its target dont attack, and especially if its HP istn't going down don't attack!

If there is no HoTT, target the mob and hit assist to see what it is aggroed on befor attacking. If it has the chanter as its target its a fair clue that no matter what else is happening you should not attack. (Unless you are a tank of course and then you will naturally ensure that you take aggro before attacking). Smiley: smile

The only time it is (sort of) safe to hit attack immediately on assist, is when the MA calls to assist him and you hit it before he has a chance to switch targets Smiley: tongue

As a matter of habit I always hit the /assist "sometank" button two or three times before hitting attack, just to cover for lag problems. (And indecisive tanks Smiley: tongue

Sorry, my fault, actually attack was switched off by sitting, not by /attack off... I am using this hotkey:

/gsay Me assisting <main tank name>
/assist <main tank name>
/pause 5
/pet attack

Then I sat down.

The main tank sent me his log:

[Thu Jun 29 20:51:44 2006] Korromprok`s warder mauls a Bloodguard aspirant for 49 points of damage.
[Thu Jun 29 20:51:45 2006] You try to slash a Bloodguard aspirant, but miss! [Thu Jun 29 20:51:46 2006] A Bloodguard aspirant slashes YOU for 144 points of damage.
[Thu Jun 29 20:51:46 2006] A Bloodguard aspirant tries to slash YOU, but misses!
[Thu Jun 29 20:51:46 2006] Korromprok`s warder bashes a Bloodguard aspirant for 25 points of damage.
[Thu Jun 29 20:51:46 2006] a bloodbone has been awakened by Korromprok.
[Thu Jun 29 20:51:46 2006] Korromprok crushes a bloodbone for 16 points of damage.
[Thu Jun 29 20:51:46 2006] A bloodbone slashes Korromprok for 65 points of damage.
[Thu Jun 29 20:51:46 2006] You slash a Bloodguard aspirant for 34 points of damage.
[Thu Jun 29 20:51:47 2006] Korromprok begins to cast a spell.

My pet is clearly hitting the same mob as the main tank, so /assist (to get the tank's target) and /pet attack (to attack the tank's target) were working.

The same second the bloodbone was awakened, I hit him for 16 damage, and he hit me. Now I know that I was sitting when I got the wakening message, but if I was sitting, I wouldn't have hit him...

I had a look throug it all, and I think this is what happened:

- The main tank was fighting one mob, the second mob was mezzed.
- I /assisted the main tank to get his target as my target, but I was out of meleer ange.
- I let my pet attack the main tank's target.
- I somehow got the mezzed mob into target (I presume by hitting my assist hotbutton once again, although there is no sign in the log that the main tank had the mezzed mob in target) and was in attack mode.
- My pet told me that it cannot awaken the mezzed mob.
- I hit the mezzed mob the second I sat down via opening my spellbook.

Still, very strange...
