Some of you may have read this eqplayers article by Kytherea
http://eqplayers.station.sony.com/news_article.vm?id=50170

Maybe it's just me... but I thought it resembled a very specific and somewhat subtle rebuking of the grievers flooding eq message boards with whines, loud complaints, and anti-nerf crusades.

The first letter details the holes--missing things or imperfections-- in a blanket. Perhaps the character is working to strengthen themself (level, gearup, whatnot) and then bam-- some aspect of the game that they were enjoying gets nerfed. The character responds irrationally and like a child (there's specific evidence that the character is a child in the letter). And the supposed allegory seems more clear when Kytherea's response is that the one who worked harder to develop the blanket [character/play ability] will reap the rewards (i.e., being a better player and additionally not feeling as spoonfed).

Then the second, which seemed to me an issue over class balancing and class abilities. The jester, I figure, was not in itself significant, but rather a catalyst for bringing about the character's displeasure with their abilities [read: class abilities]. And pretty funny, because that guy is irritating. The response to this letter could be saying, in short, to be satisfied with the class abilities you have. And if you play a ranger but want, I dunno I'm pulling something out of my *** here, better defenses or better healing.. then play a cleric or warrior, or one of those other classes with defense or healing.. a knight or a priest. Obviously the main idea here would be that classes are limited for a reason. If I need to explain to the reader of this post why Class X doesnt have abilities trumping 9 other classes' key strengths, then I have no desire to spend my time talking to a rock.

Did anyone else see anything like this, or what do you think of this connection? Per webster.com, kibitzer: "one who looks on and often offers unwanted advice or comment especially at a card game". Certainly if I were constantly bombarded by whining and lobbying, I wouldnt expect the perps to welcome my advice.

Or am I reading too far into things? /boggle

After reading the two notes, I would think the first one is targeted at the changes made to the cloak of the tracker (and possibly other evolving items, not sure).

The last patch increased the xp needed to evolve the cloak. It would also seem that the patch didn't affect those whose cloak was fully evolved, othersgot (in some minds) a rude awakening. While their cloak didn't de-evolve (if at level 2), it may have gotten a nasty debt of xp. (mine went from 68% in level 2 -- only 32% left, to a negative 68% -- ouchie, harsh :P )

Not sure on the other one.
