Alternate reasoning for hot zones?Follow

You can think of hot zones having more than one use.

Yes, they have been put in to up the xp level to draw people to various zones, some of which would otherwise see little action. But I like to think they also serve to draw away the masses (read: asses) from the rest of Norrath, leaving a zone you might want to explore, reletively empty.

Sure your favorite zone might get picked as a hot zone, and a few hot zone patches ago they left them the same for too long. Hopefully they will change them sooner now so if your favorite zone gets tagged as hot, you do not have to suffer the /ooc wars too long. Might be a good time to explore a new non-hot zone.

A very good point Dothammer. When The Grey was declared a hot zone, I was a bit disappointed at the number of toons who had invaded my otherwise tranquil and almost exclusively unpopulated zone (yes there was an exp penalty but it wasn't bad for AA's), and yes it lasted way too long. I do like the concept of exclusive named mobs for the new hotzones, provided the drops are interesting, but I've yet to try them out myself. IMHO, the hots zones are just another bright, shiny bauble to catch your attention and provide you with a fleeting spark of interest. Now if they would make LDoN's soloable... but that's a rant for another time.
