NEW Itemization in Hotzones as per EQLIVE

EQLIVE wrote:
I hope that everyone is enjoying the new Hot Zones released with the update this week. Now that the first players to hit the zones have had a few days to run through the content I wanted to discuss what some of you have already noticed, namely that there are some new items dropping in each of the Hot Zones.

This is something that we've wanted to do for some time now. I very nearly was able to itemize the Hot Zones that went live when PoR came out but we just weren't able to complete the items before that set of zones went live. Rather than tack on the items partway through the Hot Zone period I decided to hold off until we released the next set of items. This is not by any means a complete re-itemization of these zones and does not mean they were "revamped" in any way. New items were simply added to the zones in a variety of ways that I will discuss below.

The first and most obvious source of items in the new zones are the new named NPCs to be found in all of the Hot Zones. Some zones have more new named npcs than others but each zone should have at least one new npc. These NPCs have brand new drops that should be a bit more level appropriate for current day EverQuest than some of the items that might drop elsewhere in the zone and are older.

The second source of items are global rare items. A number of the Hot Zones have new global rares. In some zones nearly any NPC can drop these items. In other zones the global rares are restricted by race so only certain types of NPCs drop these items.

The final loot mechanism I used in the Hot Zones is something new I came up with for these zones - feedback is welcome! I did something I call the "Call for Help" mechanic. Basically it works like this....

Some (not all!) npcs in the Hot Zones will, during combat, realize they are in trouble and are not going to win. If they decide to call for help at this point a new NPC will spawn somewhere nearby. This NPC will be the same race as what you're fighting but will be just a little bit stronger. This new NPC will then run over and, well, start hitting you. Obviously a new NPC hitting you isn't fun so the up side to this is that the new NPC is a Named npc with loot that essentially spawned just for you and your group.

The chance of this happening is about the same as the chance to get one of the global rare drops found in the Hot Zones.

I'm hoping that this will add a bit of excitement and danger to normal experience grinding while offering a chance at some nice items in the process.

I hope you all enjoy the items and the zones in this set of Hot Zones.

These new drops are permanent to these zones. As we do Hot Zones a small infusion of items will visit each zone. Unfortunately we don't have time to do a game wide re-itemization but this will definately help, I think.

I do not yet know what these items are, but I did see someone selling in baz yesterday an "improved damage III" aug that is not in allas database called Suspended Wurm Blood and that is tradeable. a Blackened lava rock may also be one of these new items. And also a blood gill shaman staff

The augments being droppable is also a bug and will be fixed next patch.

Sorry about that,

The captain in Karnors is dropping some caster gloves. I looted them today but didn't think to screenshot them and submit. Bad thing is they are REQ lvl 45 and recommended lvl 50. Like most items with required levels by the time your 45 you probably have better. I amn 44 and my gloves are ALOT better then these.

If they are going to put required levels on everything the loot will proably be next to worthless.

There are required and recommended levels on all the new items.

The new items are exponentially better than what currently drops in Kunark.

Firerune Brand, Mace of Shadowed Soul and Wraithbone Hammer drop in City of Mist and the new items that drop there are much better and upgrades for people who are not twinked.

Blackened Lava Rock is a new drop, got one off of an old wurm in Skyfire. In all my time hunting in Skyfire for cleric epic pieces I have never come across it before.

Bloodgill Shaman's Effigy drops from the raging bloodgill that gets called sometimes when you are killing the regular ZI bloodgills in Veksar. It is the rare.

The common drop from this mob is: Bloodgill Cap

The
Bloodgill Shaman's Staff
is the rare drop and the Bloodgill Belt is the common drop from Explorer Gamus in Veksar. He spawns just down the stairs from the Champion in Veksar. He is not a called mob.

The staff is about 1 in 5 in my experience.

Another thing I've noticed is that these things sell well to vendors. Personally I've sold the stuff from Veksar for over 400pp per item. So even if you can't use them they have some value.

Looks like "a deformed hand" is now popping in Veksar and dropping these:

Hammer of the Forgotten City
Waterlogged Armwraps

From the new drolvarg captian:

Axe of Destruction
White Silk Gloves

On lucy there are a lot of new items listed that seem to fit the bill for new mobs. Those that are level 35+ include:

Charred Wooden Rod
Drolvarg Skullcap
Shield of the Mist
Golem Essence Necklace
Golem Essence Spaulders
Yeti Fur-Lined Sleeves
Mantle of the Brae
Creeping Vine Necklace
Midnight Drolvarg Cloak
Suspended Wyvern Blood
Calcified Bone Gauntlets
Suspended Wurm Blood
Blackened Lava Rock
Golden Drolvarg Boots
Wurmfire Earring
Wurmfire Ring
Sword of the Mist
Reinforced Round Buckler
Wurmfire Totem
Dragon Bone Shard

Who knows, but it's cool:

Lens of the Evil Eye

It's hard to tell anymore what new stuff is from the hotzones so I'm going to stop updating. This should give a good idea of what can be found out there.

Edits to add new items as they are listed in Lucy

The 2 Golemn Essence items linked above come from City of Mist. I had the shoulders drop when "A Mighty Golemn" called for help and also from a mist golemn near the first locked door.

So you cannot get the " Lens of the Evil eye" , it was only a reward for Beta?

I am very happy to see the upgrades to droped loot, and especialy so, to see more dropping globaly, as to the call for help feature, I and my friends solo and duo enough to know that this is disasterous to singles or pairs trying to xp up on whites or better, no one wants to almost win a carefully planned battle only to get slaughtered by a magically appearing mob. This i am very much against. The 1-3 person groups have enough odds stacked against them in the 40+ zones as it is. It cannot be rare enough to remove the irritation that it would cause. Thank you for the great effort put forth, but pls reconsider call for help on a global basis.
