I have it and even though I'm a cleric bound in PoK, I still use this one more often than gate.

Why? Refreshes every 72 minutes, so I rarely want to use it more than I can, and it's closer to the Guild Hall. Sure, I could rebind, but I like being "bound" in two places, or three (on my wizard).

It's a decent addition, but it lacks the WOW factor that the other vet AAs have.

Melees without OT Hammer, Origin and Gate Potions rejoice!

There are a dozen or more items in game that gate you to various safe places. Sure, many of them are from raids and raid involved quests but 8 year veterans have many of those. The PoP Bin Laden necklace comes to mind and the Circle of Smoke from Vyzdra. Oh and the one with Gate charges from Nurgs (Droga?).

Also, the pottery made race specific Faithstones and such.

The point is, a "gate" ability is underwhelming.

Not everyone is in the end game, some "targeted clients" that soe worhsips are the under 14 year olds which may or may not be in the end game where all these "gate items" are obtainable. SO keep that in mind, its just not the majority they are looking to "please" its everyone =/.. and if you've been a player for 8 years to obtain this "reward" you may have an alt that may need this to get around. How about those players under 50 that can't get Origin...just my take on it.

And to all those posters that say "you should have, you can buy... why should I pay outlandish prices in the bazaar just to do something that the game "can" offer? 300k for an aug that cost maybe 12k to make, talk about mark ups!

Do you land on the throne with a newspaper in one hand and a roll of toilet paper in the other?

(my dad calls the bathroom the Throne Room)

I am on the fence on this one because, pure casters gate. May be usefull for the others though.

First off what a waste of an award.

What they should have done was allow 8 year veterans to set a personal bind point in addition to their game one. Allow characters to make it easier to check spawns, get to time consuming run to zones, etc... . Give this ability a refresh time similar to origin

When I first read about it on the EQCleric website I was of the opinion...LIKE WHAT THE HELL?!?!?! Great reward for 8 years of playing...why not just give us a second robo-boar. The only ones on MY account will be may 3rd string alts (Ranger and Beserker) just so I dont need to waste pp on Gate potions.

I still feel that for an 8 year reward it is a SLAP in the face.

Just my 2 cp worth.

Think it is time for them to re-think this one...a quote "membership reward" unquote, should be for all members not a just new perc for original beta players. If they want to foster longevity in their accounts then they should reward longevity one year=1 reward; year 2=2 more rewards; year 3=3 more rewards; etc., etc. Make the extra rewards something useful ..free AA's for example

Everyone is saying after 8 years you would think they would give thier loyal customers something good....After 8 years (or even 6 months) have you not figured out they really don't care about thier customers. Yeah I agree that vet reward is worthless though.

If this is what they give you for 8 years of devotion to a game and a lot of time and money too they better give the poor souls that got screwed on this reward the last 8 years of their life back as the year 9 reward. Just like everyone else has said, OT hammer, Gate Potions, Tailsman Neck, Origin AA, being able to log off for 6 hours and return home are all > then a gate on a 20 hour recast timer. If it came down to dire need (and your an end game raider) you could always use the ToB clickie AA (15-20 min reuse IIRC...used to not have one at all) to get out of a tight spot and have a porting guildie meet ya there to take ya out since its prolly the single easyest spot for anyone in EQ to get to. Long gripe short...for 8 years of running around the game if you were gateless they shoulda put it on a 2 hour timer max. I just hope they change it in the 4 more years that it would take me to get to 8. Cause as a druid its a total waste i can port and be looking at the zoneline that my 8 years of devotion would take me to every 20 hours...WTG very usefull AA, i can taste the sarcasm.

The aspect of travel in EQ is already ruined anyways so why not. Luclin Spires, PoK books, Magus TL's have already made it so you can easily get to or get out of just about any place. If you've been playin 8 years why not get a free gate to guild hall.

i was thinking at first this wouldnt be so bad, if you use it on the progression server... but then... where the hell would you go after the GL? (untill someone unlocks pok and GL and GH haha) you'd be stuck in oasis after they removed it.. without any mobs to kill
#40 Jun 19 2006 at 2:39 AM Rating: Decent
I have played a caster since launch. Gate sends you to your bind point. Origin sends you to your home city and this sends you to the guild hall.. I see how this is very useful for many reasons. Gives you a potential third port point.

I voted its and awsome ability.
#41 Jun 19 2006 at 5:47 AM Rating: Default
I'm not really impressed, but it might get some use by casters and those with other gate means to go to the GL when bound somewhere else. Pretty lame though for 8 years, at 4 would have been better or replace stupid jesters with it. The only time I'd probably have a use for it would be when I forget to rebind and am naked in some wonderful spot with lots of things saying it's lunch.

For a class without gate (like my 70th sk) It is nice to have. OK I have the OT hammer ... but it can be hard (or time consuming) to try exiting rage/RSS . OK I have origin ... 2 zone away from pok and the whole ogguk to cross. So only 1 zone away from POK, between pok and guild hall .... it is convenient but I much prefer the previous ones (regen all HP/mana or increase crit rate) ;)

As "one of the 17" that qualify for this - I should let you know I did not vote this poll.

It sounds very useless except for those classes that can't gate. Then again, there's always the OT hammer.
Ever tried to use the OT hammer in an emergency? If you don't have stats maxed out, it takes forever for the hammer to proc... I remember at least two times where I died waiting to get ported!

I like the fact it puts you right in the GL. I can gate but as I am bound at the PoTime portal, this makes it a bit easier to get to the GL without having to run the distance. It may also come in handy if a non gater is bound a distance away or in a bad location. As far as the AA Origin goes, it is handier as a DE Necro/SK/Rog would have to cross five zones to get to the same point. I feel it will be used more than all the complaints that are posted here are willing to admit. And I am alway looking for an easier way to get around. I loved the Firepot room in OT. Bind, invis and go....
#46 Jun 19 2006 at 1:21 PM Rating: Decent
Totally useless.

What many posters that think this is good useful to keep forgetting is that you don't get it till you've been playing 8 years. Sure it would be nice for someone coming up, but for those that have been around for 8 years, braved the running zones, waiting for ports, BOATS!, ec tunnel, group waiting lists, etc... this is uterly useless. I have been playing for 6 years now, a hybrid and would have no use for this. I can get to and from anywhere I need with ease these days.

In comparison to the other vet aa's, this ranks worse than the jester in uselfulness imho, at least I can get full mana every now and then from him, other than that I just use my gate neck. I think this ranks up there with soe's stand on the special subscription plan they offered last year, the $99 a year one, that is until you need to change any info in your account details at all, and then are forced to resubscribe at the regular rates...thanks for the special offer. At least it appears they are consistent with their lack of thought for their customer base.

Anyone that has been playing for 8 years will have to agree it is totally useless. Even is you create a new non gating character with 8 years of exp you should have the plat to buy gate potions. Now if it was a first year or even a second it wouldn't be so bad but after 8 years if you havn't learned how to get around you shouldn't be playing.

...welp, now I have 3 get out of Time free cards. Potions, Origin, and this. Color me unimpressed to say the least. I really was pinning my hopes a little higher than "ooooo, free gate to da purty throne"

welp... wonder what year 9 will be. Summon backpack of food and water? Because of course we all have been out hunting and ran out of both at one point or another. That's going to be useful!

Am I the only one who has a Melee class that uses Thurgadin Gate potions? 3 crystalline silk, a small brick of velium and 2 small pieces with 2 glass shards.
Look up Velium Vapors quest.

After 8 years, this is my payment?

How about something that I'll use, since my gate-bind point in PoK is spitting distance from this stupid throne.
