Two box duo for prog. serverFollow

#1 Jun 13 2006 at 1:09 PM Rating: Decent
Thinking wood elf druid and High elf Paly. Or Dark elf Cleric, Troll warrior for the sake of them having close faction and starting near each other any ideas or comments?

Whatever you have fun with. I definitely like the monk/shaman box a lot but that's not really feasible until Kunark gets unlocked.

Sham/monk is my favorite as well.

When I first started EQ my then girlfriend got me into it. She had a high elf paladin (level 5) and I started a wood elf druid. It was actually a pretty decent combo in the old world. You get 2 that can heal, ports, damage shields, tank-age, snare, stun, damage over time, 2 rooters, harmony for single pulling and decent direct damage. Most of these you'll get at a fairly low level which will make levelling a little easier. Not sure how great a pair it will be at higher levels if you don't like to group as we never made it past 40 when we split up. I've since moved on to playing my warrior as my main but I have some good memories of the Nybrite sister's camp in lesser faydark in the teens with my first character.

Necro/Druid

Nowhere they couldn't go. Nothing they couldn't kill.

You need to learn the special skills, but you have fear, kiting, splitting, pacification, porting/evac, healing, everything stacks, equipment is easy. This duo will be killing reds long before any other combo can get near it. In fact they can start off killing reds and never stop.

Please clarify.

I have already made a Monk and Shaman on my 2 accounts for the get go. I will not need Kunark to get this rolling.

wiz/wiz, wiz/dru. if they dont change spells, wiz will be overpowered, a druid would provide some nice utility like great snares and heals.

Yea I don't see why you need kunark to be a monk or shaman, although granted people usually like Iksars better as monks. Just remember Iksars were a pain to play back before plane of knowledge etc.

Id have to say Druid/necro sounds like the ultimate pair though.

I think brudish was referring to a Iksar only Monk shaman duo. They would both have the same faction problems then.
Human monk and either troll ogre shaman would have some faction problems.
Human monk Barb shaman should work well.
I was thinking a druid paladin combo would be interesting.
Or ogre beastlord and anything.

I made a necro/mage combo, but I might change my mind before it goes live. I've always wanted to try that combo, though.

I meant it wasn't as feasible until Kunark comes out because being able to have the two characters start in the same city with the same faction is going to be much easier, which iksars can do. Otherwise you're limited to a human and an evil race or a human and a barbarian, which I guess works because Qeynos isn't far from Halas. It's just that with the lack of PoK, readily available ports, etc., it's a pain to run characters back to separate towns to get skills/spells.

It's definitely doable, just much easier with two iksar.

Shaman/SK would be a good combo. Trolls can be both right?

The thing about Necro/Druid is they can both charm, both fear, both snare. The Necro can mez. Once you learn the techniques the killing power is awesome.

For example they would be killing OT cyclops long before any other combo could manage it.

P.S. A human druid and human necro would be quite easy to start together, but I would go for a wood elf druid and gnome necro. Hit Steamfont - Butcherblock and then into Ocean of Tears.

Two boxing two charm classes would be very difficult though. I was thinking about mage/druid. Not sure how well pet can tank but you have very good dps, healing, ports and snares.

Necro can mez??

Class combo I'd recommend is WAR/CLR - there ya got the two most popular classes. And although you may enjoy soloing, you can't do it forever. So eventually, it'll be real asset to get groups quickly.

You meant Rez right?
Cuz if they can mez.. that'd be pretty much the coolest thing ever.
And Napoleon Dynamite would agree with that statement.

Yes, they can mez. Screaming Terror.

Necro and anything. (rogue would be cool)
War/sk/pal and Sham/cleric/druid

Should point out that, which gear being a lot more rare than on other servers, races will make a big difference at first. Dumb casters and weak melees won't be as easy to fix with gear and buffs as they are right now in most worlds.

I gonna do monk / shammy most likley but also thinking of adding a 3rd box.. ranger or wizard but not sure wich one yet..

A necro/bard combo would work, but might not be practical for the Progressive server, because of the running around for spells. Bards can't be an evil race, that limits your necro possibilities.

Yes, playing with two charmed mobs is very high risk. Its a lot of fun, but not something you would want to do all the time. (I did it for a while in Jagged Pines, two griffons could chew through the smugglers faster than they could respawn, but I did spend a fair bit of time doing cr's as well Smiley: smile

The way to play a duo like this is to use one to charm and the other as your puller, crowd control. When charm breaks the other character does CC until the mob can be recharmed, or killed.

There are many variatons the pair can use, fear kiting is the most obvious, puller kites in circles around the other character until fear takes and then both turn and wail on the poor mob. Normal kiting works to of course.

Is progression server really going to be using the original rules? If so a few people are going to get a bit of rude awakening about binding and travel Smiley: grin

I boxed a Shammy and a Mage for a while, was a great combo with slow, dots and two pets....Unless very chaotic, shammyheals are fine for the pets. The do get high HP at high levels, so the CH wont be wasted either
