Melee: max into stamina then extra into either wiz/int if a hybrid or Str if not

Caster: Max into wiz/int rest into Sta

Easiest class will be Mage since they have summonable gear. Hardest will be rogue since they can't solo for **** and will have really crappy weapons.

I'm going Wizzie for the AE groups that no doubt will spring up all over the place and we'll see how it works out.

Usually you are wise tarv but I essentially soloed my rogue to 51. Now-a-days with DoN gear and hot zones it is much easier. Granted it wasn't a cake walk, but it was very enjoyable and very do-able. Not really twinked too much but he doesn't have any glaring weaknesses in gear. At 51 though, it is much more enjoyable playing the traditional rogue role.

I made a wood elf rogue on Combine but I doubt I will need to solo that much since everyone's characters will be starting fresh.

Yes right now a rogue with newer expansion gear could solo to 51, but with gear from eq1 classic..... I think not.

Ack and no Ry' Gorr either omg! hehe...

Are they going to have the (old) newbie armor quests I wonder?

Gotta do some research now, what was the best pre-kunark chain gear? Hmmm...

Smithing is going to be huge for a while. If I planned to play the new server, I'd make smithing priority one because Banded Armor will sell like hotcakes. Or at least like Banded Armor on a new server...

i'm going with druid. tracking, ports, foraging and less gear dependent than some.

I think I'm going to make a wizard if I play on the new server

Hopefully Ice Comet won't be nerfed

Casters will be easier to level at first.

Spells are readily available on vendors and their power comes from spells, not twink gear. Just get levels, loot every rat ear and buy your spells.

I would go with shaman. Easy to solo, not a great need for gear, as a troll shaman you can get the clicky snare, though the troll newbie armor drops are a bit difficult to get.

Dot,

The best pre-kunark chain gear is the stuff in Hate, but since no one will be going there for a while, I don't count it. (I do mention it, however, even though technically Hate wasn't available at launch it's still an EQ Classic zone, and even though those drops weren't added to the Hate drop tables until around Velious release, iirc. Assuming Hate is live when the prog server opens, I'd guess the current loot tables would be used.)

The best rogue armor that anyone actually had was Ravenscale, which again wasn't available at launch... they used it to replace the Rubicite armor when they removed that from CT. Rubicite itself may have been rogue wearable, I don't remember - when it was for sale it cost an obscene amount of plat: 50-100k for the bp (roughly equivalent to 500k-1 million plat in today's economy), and Ravenscale was better, stat-wise, anyway. Now the only piece of RS armor worth anything is the see-invis mask.

Most of us wore banded and derv rings. ;)

And yes, being a rogue in the Classic to Velious era sucked, but someone had to open the doors in CoM! Besides, no one parsed anything so we didn't know we sucked that bad. :P

For anyone going to the prog server, here's some advice: West Karana. This zone is so underused at this point most people don't even know where it is, but back in the day it was vital. The bandit camp on top of the hill is great xp and a really good source of plat for the era.

as far as mages having summoned gear, iirc most of our summon gear spells (like tavee's linen mantle, etc) are sold by Jolum in the bazaar, so i doubt we 'll have access to them right away. we will be able to summon magic weapons for ourselves, our groupmates, and pets, so that will be an early advantage.

I'm going with necro. Smiley: waycool

necros could be naked and still kill stuff... nuff said.

first two characters to hit 50 in EQ were halfling rogues! I'm going with rogue, again :)

My opinion on the easiest solo classes: Necro or Mage. Neither needs much of anything to solo effectively. If soloing isn't your plan, then it really doesn't matter. Groups will be plentiful and non-descriminating for many weeks. Pick the class that suits you best.
