look at eq.crgaming.com for ranger race ideas, i think the half-elf has the most issues with npc merchents, out of pok

For HD space, you'll need about 5 GB free...

My computer is cheap so it's not going to be to good. I can still upgrade it. It's an Acer Aspire T135 512MB of RAM but i'm buying another 512MB of RAM with it. 140 GB of Hard Drive space, 1.8 ghz processor.

This should be your system, this is assuming it is the one I found here at this link http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1699351 and is still in factory condition (no upgrades).

Lookng at that system the biggest issue I see is the onboard video processor. Fortunately it looks like you have an available AGP slot for a seperate video card. Look for a 128Mb minimum video card, 256Mb would be better but more expensive. Video cards with the AGP interface should be less expensive since the top end cards are all PCI-E now.
For low cost I would recommend this for the 256Mb of RAM.

Also for low cost but with a faster proccesor and less RAM.

Memory upgrades are great and NEVER are a bad thing but right now the video looks like your weakest point.

If you do upgrade your video card don't forgt to disable the onboard video in the BIOS!

any class/race combo that you find fun is good to play. in the end only a few classes benifit from the race bonus of HP regen... other then that its not a big deal.

as for a system setup hmm EQs code is still the suck when it comes to the graphics engine.

here is an example as to why i say what i say.

i just built a brand new rig a few weeks with the following specs:

AMD 939 DC 3800+ CPU (that is the 64bit dual core)
2G PC3200 ram
SLI Nvidia GFx eXtreem 6800 256M vid cards
Asus A8N-SLI Premium mother board
Seagate sATA 300G hard drive

due to EQ not being able to handle a SMP system and XP being a bit gimped and typical MS lieing about XP being able to handle a true SMP enviroment i have to nerf my system just to play EQ. i have to tie EQ to the first CPU so things will run well.

ok with all settings maxed running at 1280x1024 res and full AA, full graphic affects, etc... i range between teens on the low side and as high as 120 FPS. yes a HUGE range for my FPS all due to the cr4p graphics engine that SoE created back with the SoL expansion years ago.

now to give you an idea how powerful my system is today i had my trader up so i minimized EQ and started up UT2k4 (just the demo) and i also run that at the highest graphic settings etc again same 1280x1024 res and while have BOTH GAMES running i was still able to stay very stable in a 20/20 game at 80FPS or so.

just FYI, i max out in the 80 FPS range when i play UT2k4 with nothing but that game running. so even with EQ running in the background hogging up close to 1G of memory, winXP taking up 120M or so of memory, i was still able to play UT2k4 as if EQ was not running at all.

so any rig with a P4 and the 800Mhz FSB (not the gimped 533FSB vs) in the 2G + range for the CPU, and any modern higher end AGP vid card (i would say nothing lower then a 6000 line Nvidia or the ATI equiv) and 1G ram min. should do the trick rather nice.

do plan on having issues in some zones like PoK with only 1G of ram and with a lower CPU or Vid card.

the 2 most important things to good performance in EQ are RAM, you can not have to much ram for EQ, and a powerful Vid card.

you will get more out of those 2 then having a higher end CPU.

Hey I know this doesn't have anything to do with the thread, but I dont want to make another one.

I bought the Titanium version of EQ. Is that supposed to have the manual of EQ in it? If it isn't could I get a link so I could look at it or download it? Thanks for all your help with the computer thing.

Is 1.8 ghz that fast I dont really know that much about computers, but I do know alot

This would be good too if you can manage to spend more for the video card. Just don't forget to send in the rebate form like I always seem to do. :(

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814102666

From that point you can spend 130 for an nvidia 6600. Anymore than that and youre putting too much video card in your system.

Good luck and welcome to EQ.

The rest of your pc should be fine. It's the video card thats the problem. 512 mb ram is even playable. Though an upgrade to 1gb would make a big difference.
