the 50+ grindFollow

#1 May 30 2006 at 6:39 AM Rating: Decent
So i've returned to EQ and now find myself at the same place i always despised before. I'm level 52 and need to get to 70 quickly.

Where do people grind out their 50s now? I am using a friend 70 ranger to kill things in sebilis with my 52 on auto follow and it's going ok but not great. What are some of the faster options to level at 52 that I have? (Using the 70 ranger or not)

I don't know how many more froglocks i can take!

Cazic Thule is also a hotzone. You could try there.

I played 3-4 hours a night.

Putting Cachet on tow behind Felicite, I did from 50ish until I dinged 55 in Plane of Disease and Plane of Nightmare. Always trying to kill yellow cons to Cachet as fast as I could. Let's say a level took 2 hours +/- 30 minutes.

55 to 61, I like the Golems on Valor.. I like to go to the back of the large plane. There I can get a level in 60 minutes, +/- 30.

Then I did Vxed instances, Nobles` Causeway and Drunder (which is a Necro playground) and I started boxing her in MPG and later RSS groups and it took some time.

On a later project (70 Mage, not in my sig), I would take him dou into 69.1: Hards (sometimes with another necro.. which is even faster killing). Generally I would get 30-40% of a level (in the late 60s) per mission. So call it 6 hours a level.

But clearly I am doing it wrong: http://eq.nitrous.org/forums/read.php?msg=369

EverQuest is fun for raiders, but when the zones are all unlocked and you're in farm mode, what's left? More farming is usually the only answer.

If you and your guild are up to the task, join us in trying to meet the following goals. Be the first one to do it severwide and become a legend.

Here's a bonus that doesn't require a raid:

1. What's the quickest you can level a character from tutorial to 70? The goal is 6 hours. Provide a screenshot of your character's /play'd time and /who in a chat box along with an open inventory window showing level.

But, back to reality. Best ZEM you can get (I liked PoP zones.. there are others I am sure) with yellow or barely red cons to the PLee. Fastest killing possible in that zone. Until the mid to late 60s, 1-2 hours a level is reasonable.. after that 3-5.

I've spent many hours on 50ish toons in Veksar. It's a little out of the way and not many people go there - but I think it's a great place to spend the 50s-60s on any toon. Some classes will do better than others though. Undead reigns supreme.

Aside from the options already mentioned (and some are very good)you could use the ranger but not grouped. He can heal you and assist you as long as you do over 50% of the damage. You will get all the xp this way. Grouped with a 70 only gets you a small percentage of the xp per kill. FG is a hotzone and the shrooms are low HP's and low DPS. You didn't mention what class you are so I don't know if this is a good option for you.

If you keep playing grouped I would recommend PoP zones.

Grouping with a level 70 and having him mass kill things that are dark blue or white to you is, from my experience, the fastest.

Unfortunately, a Ranger is not a good PLer like a Druid or Mage who can damage shield you. Your DPS is not going to be good enough for him to PL you.

Damage shield = Uber power leveling. No other method beats it for speed.

Maybe in the next expansion rangers will get the ability to cast damage shields, a heal spell would be nice too.

/sarcasm off

Compared to rangers, mages are pathetic PL'ers. /info

AE beats damage shield for speed. /info

Yeah, a ranger is more or less going to be on par with a druid (assuming they're the one taking the hits while dishing out the thorns damage, y'know, having the PLee simply do 1 point of damage. Mass training works well with that) except that they have weaker DS's.

Yea I just got back into the game myself, however I am at the lvl 36 area and my friend is at the lvl 30 area. We have had a great time in a old time fav zone (and current hotzone), Frontier Mountains. Always loved hunting the giants. In the past 2 days we have had 3 forrest loops drop. I remember when getting one of those made you feel like you was rich :p

It is good loot for the level though. Random pp drops, and we all got all the 2h weapons we can hold (being most are lore). Had to start giving them to the pet just for the heck of it.

Well, you have the PLer (the person doing the powerleveling) and the PLee (the person receiving the powerleveling). Ya dig?
