Whats It like Now?Follow

Hello all, I'm currently playing EQ2 and have a 40 Ranger. I'm having alot of fun playing EQ2 but I'd like to try out EQ again. I use to play it a while back but switched to DAOC. I started playing EQ2 a little bit before KoS came out. I have a few questions to aid me on deciding wether or not I should try EQ again.

1. Whats it like now? If I play will I see alot of people in newbie zones? Or will there be no one around and I'll have to solo until I get to a higher level.

2. This kind of relates to the question above but I thought I'd make it a seprate question. If I create a group orianted character like a cleric will I be able to get a group at lower levels?

3. I took a look at the offical EQ site and found out that there are 11 expansion packs!!! I'm wondering which ones will be needed to start out with and which ones are geared for later levels.

4. Qutie simply, is it worth it any more. There are alot of next generation games coming out and I'm just wondering if EQ1 still stacks up with these games (Examples... EQ2, Vangaud SoH, Dark and Light...errr Light and Dark...forgot which way it is =P ).

Any post (other than a random flame) are welcome!

Hi there! I was wondering the same thing....I had quit playing when that war hit the newbie wood elf city of Kelthin (sp sorry) and you had to be basically over level 70 or in a huge group. Is that still going on? I have all the expansions up to the Depths of Darkhollow I think is the name...so what is it like? I play SWG and WoW at the moment, but not sure how much longer I will stay with WoW. I do miss my druid and my cleric. I hope some people respond to your question!!

Till then take care!

Have you played WoW? I have a level 60 druid, and have alot of fun with her but I really enjoyed the leveling up part. (well most of it when there was no grinding involved lol)I wonder if the war part is going on still? anyone know? the part where the really high level orcs took over the newbie tree city?
Thanks in advance
ps let me know what you think of the game now too

The war between FV and Lanys has been over for quite some time, you may return to your regularly scheduled program.

Ád 1. Most kids have left for games with easier progression, so the average age of the player base is higher than when you played. The good news is that players are more mature, the bad news is these people also tend to be very focused and less inclined to just hang around lvl 32 to see the sights.

Ad 2. Yes. You'll find groups easy at all levels, but you'll find that most of the people you meet will out-level you unless you really put in an effort. Most new toons are alts, played by people who know the world inside out.

Ad. 3 There's an expasion pack (Titanium?), which gives you the game and the first ten expansions very cheaply. Get that. There are features in every expansion you'll find useful (well, maybe not the Gates of Discord fiasco, but let's not start a flame war...)

ad 4. Depends on what you want from a game. Are you into a burger or a hearty (and healthy...) dinner in a fine restaurant? EQ is a VERY big game in terms of depth. There's an enourmous amount of content; zones to explore, NPCs to talk to, quests to solve, raids to get flags etc. Lately (i.e. the last three expansions or so) the developers have introduced ways to get to level 70 in a week, in order to appease the 'instant gratification'-crowd, so EQ can now be played much like EQ2 or WOW if you want, just with old-school graphics, mostly. There's another, slower, play style though, that tends to last longer.

Search or Browse through the forums - these questions have been asked and answered a few hundred times in the last 3 weeks alone. That said - here's my thoughts:

1. Depends on the server and your play time. Evenings and weekends are the best for most servers. Make a tight friends list of the people you liked grouping with and ask if they have other characters. Many of the lower level players are killing time while waiting for their guild raid or other higher level friends to log on. There are not a ton of true noobs anymore - that doesn't mean there aren't low level players though. With the Combine Server coming out soon - it may be a great place to start a new toon.

2. Groups are not that hard to get. There are key zones for every level and a good friends list will help. To some extent any character can solo - so play what you want to play not what you think you have to play. You'll be happier in the long run even if it does mean more time spent LFG.

3. Buy Titanium - all but the latest expansion - one cheap price.

4. No idea.

three more things.
one: your characters might still be there and
two: even if it is possible to find groups, it's better if ye make a good solo class (MAG, NEC, BST, SHM etc). thus you can solo, if needs be.
three: join a guild. sometimes guildies level their alts too.

I hope you'll enjoy your EQ time Smiley: smile

My advice to anyone starting new would be - start on the combine server which is going live in june, this new server is a "progression" server where the players unlock the expansions, starting with original everquest.

The good thing about this is, from all the buzz so far, this server is going to be popular, and due to the fact everyone is going to be starting from scratch, its going to be a level playing field and the newbie zones will be packed, this gives the genuine new players a much better chance at getting a grp.

If you start on any other server your not very likely to be able to get grps. period. all the other servers are top heavy.

Perhaps the bad part of this server is the fact that the going is gonna be a bit tougher, there will be no uber twink gear on bazaar, youll be starting with items that dont have stats *shock*horror* and its going to be a lot harder gettign places due to the fact that plane of knowledge - the hub of norrath - wont be available yet and youll have to run everywhere, or beg for ports if your not a porting/group gating class (druid/wizzy)

However saying that it will teach genuine new players a little more about the world instead of levveling up on mindless monster missions etc.

First off I want to thank everyone who posted on here...wow you all gave me alot of information!! I cant even imagine what it will be like when that server goes live!! When will that be any idea? I am not into the whole leveling super fast and it sounds like there is alot more to offer now...I have the first 9 expansions I dont want to spend 30 bucks for Depths of Darkhollow and the other one that just came out so I might just buy the new release that has the one included and wait on the other...not too sure yet! anyway thank you all for writing to the original poster, and myself who has been missing the game. I am an older player, so playing a game with other adults will be nice! thanks again!
