Anybody else find this almost required tradeskill for casters tedious, overpriced etc? As a necro almost every freakin pet I get requires 2 or 3 pages. I never seem to find these pages while hunting, and there is too many people searching merchants now buying them up. Also it is a very expensive tradeskill to get up, which makes it hard for new players to really get into. In fact many new players have no clue how to do it, what it does, etc. But Anyways it is ashame when you go into bazaar and 1 person is selling the lvl 33 necro pet and they want 2500pp! I had the same problem with the lvl 24 pet, so I just skipped it because it was going for 1000. My research is like 32ish and I can't afford (nor do I really want to buy) words off merchants. IT costs time and money and I don't want to invest either in this terrible skill.

It wouldn't be so bad if the non-required spells required research, but no they make our pets, which argueably is the most important spell of a necro, research only. The only breaks we get are the pets that both Shadowknights and Necros use, and even then they are hidden on shadowknight vendors (and yea people still try to overcharge for the lvl 16 necro pet even though its merchant buyable).

I think SOE should just consider either doing away with it all together, or making other recipes besides mob dropped words to skill up. Yes Yes I am aware of the practice runes in south ro, but they are more painful to aquire then the words themselves. I also am aware of refineing runes from a nabimbi merchant, but once agian newbies can't afford 5pp a combine.

The way the game plays now very few people feel like spending hours and hours searching, combineing etc in this tradeskill. The game is now mostly higher end people and therefore people want to get to that point ASAP. IT holds people back when you have to pay outrageous prices for your spells (and even words) in bazaar and waste time time do this crap. I know at higher levels spells are even more expensive, but I don't mind paying good money for a spell I will use for months compared to a week. No reason any spell prior to lvl 50 should be more then 500pp.

Although I sort of agree on how hard it can be at lower levels, I get the feeling that you have failed to see how much research has evolved in the last few expansions.

Just like any other tradeskill, research eventually gets more tedious and more time consuming. But there are so many others for skilling up now, that it has been catching up to be on par with other tradeskills. I am enjoying the changes and hope to see them continue to evolve. Take a look at the trivial list and snoop around. You will see that it changed for, I think, the better.

As a necro myself, i managed to get my spell research up to one-thirty....six or so, but it's too much a pain in the tookus to continue. I've been buying spells from Bazaar since the fifties or so. And yes, 25k at a time gets to running a lot. I've never have more than 30k at any given time.

you can do perfectly well with zero researched spells. it'll slow you down sometimes, but it's still pretty easy. My necros 52ish now and I skipped pretty much all the research spells.

i have a level 40 necro and i dont remember ever having to use spell research for spells, i thought research was primarily for 50+ spells, i bought all my pet spells from vendors if i remember correctly, i was under the impression that pretty much all spells up to level 50 are vendor sold (i could be wrong about this, its been a very long time since i played a character at that level)

My wizzy is up to 165ish on research, and the way i got it was by letting all guild members know i was willing to take all the runes they found off their hands for what the merchants would pay.

Most of them just gave them to me, so it did not cost even that.

Research bytes, but it does eventually pay for itself if you are like me and "NEED" to have all the spells listed in the alla database.

I even take the extra spells i make and sell them for the lowest prices in the bazaar or give them to guildies.

I used to sell them really cheep in the baz so others could just have them, but the other merchants would buy them all and resell at a heckuva markup. If i get a tell "can you sell "x" spell for "x" plat, i need it and do not have a ton of money,?" i usually give it away to the wizard.

Unless I am missing something almost every pet past lvl 16 is research only for a necro except the ones that Shadowknights get also. Those are really the only must have spells I guess, although the damage shield is nice for soloing (I can take more damage then my pet at this level, 12 hp DS helps).

I suppose you could get to 50 without researched spells if you don't mind using lightblue and green pets.

I know the lvl 16 pet is Shadowknight guild purchaseable (tell the idiots selling it for 1000pp that in bazaar), the 20 pet is research only, 24 is research only, 29 is storebought, 33 research only 39 storebought, and I think 44 is research.

I was dreading research the high cost and the time. Then I ran acroiss a relativly easy way to skill up with the POR addition YAY !!!
Make vials of pure water to skill to 54 you will need to go to CC to mercahnt model CGXIV get a spell research kit. vials of pure water = 5x empty vial 1 gnomish heat source ..4x water flask all purchased from same vendor

When 54 go get your beginers trophy from freeport!!

To skill 102 make oil of vitrol: 1 crystalized sulfur...1 gnomish heat source...1 saltpeter....1 vial of pure water..
The saltpeter can be spendy in baz they ask around 50 p per on fenni but I just killed in CC and looted it that was slow but free and actually made platt doing it.
After oil do the loy swatches they can take you to 154 all use only one word a parc and a quill look on eqtraders for info on them

Hope this has helped fellow researchers some =) and also hope its made sense this being my first post here

I wouldnt even bother with low level spell research until after combine server goes online at end of june.

2500 is absurd price for below 50 spell. My advice is hunt down words you need for spell and then /ooc in PoK and Baz genral and necro chat that you have components an need a high level spell researcher to do combine for you.

I would bet for every necro researcher that wants 2500 for a level 20 spell there are probaly ten that would do the combine for free. If you were on druzzil I know I would.

My necro has approx a 200 skill in research. I skilled in up by 2 different methods, 1 of which is no longer available. The first was, when I played him, you could put your training points into it at your guildmaster as long as you had points to spend. That has since been changed and I believe you can only put your first point into it when you train it (which puts your research skill at your current level).

The other method for necros to easily skill up to a trivial of 182 is by making the spell Paralyzing Earth. For necros, you only need 1 component, Words of Crippling Force. So, when the training points were getting a little expensive, I would just check the bazaar daily for these words and do the combines. They are common and usually were not sold for more than 5-10 pp. Once you get to 182, I'd recommend checking eqtraders.com for suggested skill up paths.

As someone said earlier, asking in PoK doesn't hurt either if you have the components. I would always log on my necro to do a spell combine for someone at no charge if I wasn't busy.
