I didn't think eq1 was getting a new race, thought it was just new starting city? One might assume new starting city = new race but that doesn't mean it is so. Maybe frogs don't have to live under tents in the mountains anymore?

If there is new races we still don't have ratonga's.

F'uck ratongas.

I'm eyeing gnolls or kobolds. It's got to be an oldschool race. It's always an oldschool race. Vah Shir were just a revamped kerran and frogloks have always been around.

If they are going to do a new race, then I have 2 ideas of what it should be. But again, my thoughts dont always count, lol

The first new race I would love to see is a classic race and has always been there. The Orc. Think about it for a second. They are around in some starting cities, like in Gfay. They are all over North/South Ro and East Commons. The city should be somewhere along the Orc Highway. It could be Crushbone, but that takes out that as a low level hunting zone. Then think about what classes you would get. NAturally a warrior, beserker, shaman, cleric, perhaps an Shadowknight. THen consider ORC is a language that needs to be learned. Enchanters get Illusion Orc at 54 I believe already. Give it some characteristics like the rest of the illusions do. No need to make a whole new race to bog the graphics with.

Secondly, if not orc, then personally I would like to see a Vampire race. Considering that whats his face ( cant think of his name of the top of my head, legendary owner of the castle in LFAY) is now a demi-god and has his own plane, I would think that he would have some truly devoted followers. As classes go, A shadowknight, Necro, beaslord (bat-pet would be cool),enchanter, wizard, mage. As an added feature, give them some kind of Sundot..where if they in the daylight to long they slowly loose life or their powers are lessened.

Just a thought...

My favorite idea for new race and city has always been the Gnolls of Splitpaw. Perfect spot for a starting race: Revamp Splitpaw Lair into a multi-level city/newbie lair, with the normal range of gnolls outside. Though, all the quest mobs from old Splitpaw need to be thrown into the mix somewhere. They already have their own class and caste system established.

great now 500k more replys saying that kobolds would appear as anew race in an instant er well maybe 2 months or so lol

i like minotaurs(ones that look morelike oldschool ones not the wird looking oow ones or is it god. right after minotaurs i want coldain as a race just like dwarves but with built in cr ressists and a small innate cold mitigateion

Gnolls also fav for new race maybe outdoor only wolf form or sow ability. or undead. Orc or Goblin also imo goblin would be funnier cause of their habit to well bend over when they die hehehe. It might be Lizard men like the guys in cazic

If this thing about serpents spine is true im guessing goblins or minotaurs... lots of them in that area although maybe dragonoids of some sort your telling me veeshun has NO mortal intelligent minions ? aviaks , also nice choice... half cyclops weird and cool choice.

There isnt a evil small race yet gnomes tho tastey dont count and iskar/de are medium sized

PRoblem with Orcs being a new race is there is a monster shroud that turns you into a orc. I guess that isn't a instant shoot down on them though.

A undead race would be something neat to add to the game. I imagine they would suck in PvP though because of the Ward Undead spells, fear undead, etc.

Im just so happy they are finnally making a expansion that isn't lvl 50+ mobs tightly spawned that all scowl at you and that are all underconned.

Some guesses:

Gnoll
Kobold
Giant
Aviak
Undead
Shissar (Hope not)

Basically, something that has been around in the world.

Why something that has been around? We are told there will be new content that you can stay in your whole eq life and go from 1 to 80 (or 75 depending on the rumor you go by). If this is a new world why not a brand new race? Orcs are about the only thing in the game now that would make me spin a new toon.

Above all please no exp penaly.

Not that there is a new race coming, just a new starting city. IF there actually WAS a new race coming, I would have to hold out for Othmir. I could give a rat's *** about any other race. Othmir would be damn cool and you all know it.

Well, they're certainly not immortal given that enough swords 'n spells will kill them. As far as aging goes, I've always been under the impression that they will succumb to time eventually but dragons are very long lived and Norrath is a rather young world and it just hasn't happened yet. Unless DoN drasticly changed the dragon lore, the youngest of Norrath's dragons are still only perhaps the 3rd generation*. That'd make the First Brood just grandparents.

If we disregard the dragons themselves then I don't think so. Veeshan made the dragons and their kin and then pretty much removed herself from Norrath entirely. Even the more intelligent of the dragonkin (such as the sentient drakes, wyrms and wyverns of Skyshrine) are probably at least as long-lived as the oldest of elves.

* Roughly speaking, the First Brood is still in Velious, 2nd is split between Velious and those who departed for Veeshan's Peak and the 3rd are those Kunark dragons who reside outside of Veeshan's Peak now plus Nagafen & Vox. I've no idea where DoN's dragons fit into the timeline.

the thing you gotta remeber though is that if they have an orc or a goblin it leaves the shrouds down to no use, here my list of hopefuls from greatest to least:
1. tealosians
2. skyrcrin or whatever you call thoes mobs in relic lol
3 gnome robots (they sure have been making many appearances)
4. bownies? lol
5. shissar
6. this ones never gonna happen but dragorn? lol

ALWAYS be a use for shrouds as long as someone plays a class other than a rouge or something who uses shrouds to play as a new race not many i bet

immortal to me means doesnt die of old age...is generally very tough

immortal and indestructable are different things

Dons dragons are the oldest of the old or is it second oldest anyway they were to gaurd the future broods of dragonkin

Whos to say that dragonkin didnt mix with say humans or someone decided to feck around with dragons and magic ala sarnaks

(arent they crosses between dragons and iskar ?)

Sarnaks wud be another great race to play. also i would love to play as a browni they are mean fugging bastards give em a avoidance boost to get people to play something so short

and mabey, just mabey, this "new race" will have a new class too! I always thought "shadow ranger" had a good ring, course if a class does come with the new race it will probably be like a hunter or somthing
#22 May 31 2006 at 7:14 PM Rating: Default
i bet the new starting city is for the froglocks nad there will be no new race. How ever if there is one, im asuming it will be ratonga (evil rat people who are stupid!).

i hope its a different clan of gnolls myself, but what ever i could care less since ill leave EQ when Vanguard comes out.

Here's some ideas we can kick around,

Gnoll
Faerie
Goblin
Treant
Kobold
Ratonga
#25 Jun 02 2006 at 11:54 AM Rating: Default
I really hope they actually go with gnolls. If the rumors about the Serpent's Spine are true then that seems to be the obvious choice.

I like the vampire idea. I doubt I'ld roll up an orc or a gnoll though.

And I found this quote.

Community Relations Manager Kytherea who posted this on May 10 wrote:

"I do know that there are some discussions abut what a new race would be if one is implemented, I do not think either Fae or Ratongas are being considered at this time."

So, they are discussing a new race, but it won't be a fairy or a rat...
