i'm not like sure on if people are still going to box but it would truly at this point be pointless to do it.

There will be heavy multi boxing. Please clarify as to why you think it is pointless?

I thought for awhile from your point of view and I can't get around the fact that multi boxing will have the exact same benefits on the progression server as it does on current PvE and PvP servers.

I've just come back to EQ, and this is the first I've heard about this. I read a little bit, but I'm a bit confused... is the higher content unlocked for the WHOLE server when one person/guild unlocks it? Or is it person/guild limited? I'm guessing it's the entire server, but in that way it kind of negates the entire point for a lot of players, IMO. The people who play this game day and night will have it all unlocked in no time, leaving us casual players in the dust. It wont be a total loss, but I think it would be much cooler to actually unlock all the content myself or with my friends, rather than have it all unlocked by the time I hit level 40. It would be nice if it were guild-restricted or something along those lines.

That being said, it will still be cool to play on a server not filled with twinks and godlike bazaar gear that taunts me away from actually earning and enjoying a +2 STR bracer or something.

I think it's a great concept and idea, and if SoE has been working on this for a long time then it should be a very stable idea. I have a lot of reasons why I'm going to join it and a lot of questions that I hope will be answered. I don't know if any of this has been asked or suggested... too many posts.

I started playing somewhere between Velious and Luclin (hadn't come out yet). I'm used to riding boats, swimming oceans, running through 3 zones, minimum, to get somewhere, and corpse running. None of these are big deals because, if you've played some other games (IE: FFXII) you learn to HATE large worlds. EQ zones are small in comparison. Going from one end of GFay to the other takes MAYBE a minute. That's not a lot of time, and if you think it is, I'm sorry, but your shouldn't be playing games in the first place.

These are the basics that made the game so interesting. I miss having to quest for my newbie armor. That gave me something to look forward to; to look at my cloth armor and go, "Wow, I can't wait to get those Bracers of the Initiates." PoP, while very useful, makes the game too fast and takes away the qualities that at least I really enjoy about the game. PoP and up (some would want to throw Luclin in here, but I wouldn't because you actually have to WAIT for the Nexus) really makes it feel more like a GAME and not something more, because that's the whole point isn't it? To make it feel like more of a fantasy? To be a character who has to work for something amazing? That's why it's called an MMORPG and not an MMOHack'n'Slash with quests. Anyone who's actually read EQ Lore can tell you that it's actually rather interesting.

I realize that the BACKSPACE map will be going away. But how will the patches work? Will all of the patches be up to date? IE: Will Bards now be able to Agro AoE Kite? How will they handle the character models? Will Progression be based on specific quests or Server-wide level percentage or a combination of both? I personally don't want Kunark and Velious to come out a month after the Server opens because one guild decided to go take down Nagafen and Voxx as quick as possible. Will Kerafyrm be a possible raid mob somewhere down the line (just a personal question of mine)? All of these questions and more will play a role in how The Combine will pan out.

I need to get to my next class. Updates later. Peace.

I for one am very excited about this. I too have just come back to EQ after a few years and I am not sure what is going on. Maybe its just a low population on 7th but I can't believe that I am the only person in HHK or mistmoore I remember fighting for groups in thses zones before i left in 2002. I think this sounds like a great idea and i hope it works out, i will be there at minute one:)

Start playing on a new server??

This game is dying faster than Sunflowers without water and they want to introduce another server ? HAHA
Well the saying goes a fool and his money...

On my server I've been in 2 groups in nearly 2 months.

Begin playing on another server you ask?

The only hope for EQ is perhaps merging another 3 or 4 servers together in hopes of finding a group but seems there goin the other way.

It is unlocked serverwide and it has been stated they may put time restrictions on the unlocking.

McGeathy’s team is not taking any chances; they plan to put in some stopgaps, so that if new content is unlocked too quickly, the unlocking players will receive a message that they have completed the necessary task but the new content won’t arrive until the set date. McGeathy doesn’t think that these stopgaps will be needed, but he isn’t taking chances.

After playing this game for seven years I say no way for me.

I think itll work fine. Yes ppl have knowledge now. Yes ppl know where to go for what items etc. BUT no one who is involved in progression on their current main on their current server will give up the time to play through ALL again. This will be good for ppl who missed out on original EQ. I understand completely how its assumed that players will fly through the expansions...but unless a full on real guild quits mains to devote time to original EQ then it wont happen. But then again i can also see 1 guild forming who quit mains to dominate new server. This is stupid though, let younger (EQ years) players enjoy it somewhat instead of getting Pl'd to 70 on regular servers. Let them have it. I think they deserve to experience it.

Sounds like a gross wase of time and resources. This is how it should have been done in the first place, let people know what expansion they are on and whaty onwe they will need next, instead of getting people to buy expansions that they can't use yet. i'm not going to play on the progression server because i am already spoiled by all the expansions active, and it seems stupid to go backwards.

Seems fun, I'll probably try it out for a bit. But somehow I suspect I won't stay long enough to hit 50, 60, or higher. The main reason I would have to do so is just one thing: The Plane of Mischief. To see old Mischief again...wonderful. Just thinking of the 'new Mischief' makes me want to retch.

I'd be playing a Bard again. But this time, I would experience Pre-Planar bards - I only really got into my Bard around the Planar Age, so I'm sad to have missed the age of Bards before that, when they had nothing easy and had to go through everything through sheer skill.

Sadly, like many, I won't have much time to devote to it. I've got a great guild and good friends on my current server, and going off to play on the progression server a lot would mean missing a lot of raids I could be at and helping with.

That's what I'm afraid of- that all the guilds who are trying to unlock the expansions will unlock them all in say...a month. In a month they'll just have created yet another boring server for no one to play on. I want them to TAKE THEIR TIME so the rest of us who are playing the progression server to have fun, relive the old times, and do it for the adventure can do that without in a week being able to make vah shirs. :P

i was surfing thru guilds for this server. there ar already bunches of them. one guild claimed it would be raiding 5 nights a week. they already had a lot of people signed up. Smiley: oyvey

I wanna play on this server, i started around 2002, so i missed out on the old time stuff, and i wanna really see what it was like for ppl when they really just started playing EQ! its a blast from the past!

Edit:
Besides! I think this well be a great idea for people just startng out! they can unfold norraths history, instead of reading old stuff, they can be there when it happens!
