AA points starting at newbie levels would be cool.

This isn't a great idea for application, simply because the difficulty of a battle is scaled more on solo at the lowest levels, groups at the median, and eventually to the raid stuff. Basically we are all familiar with the curb you hit in exp at 51.

If you could work AA's at level 1, or even 40, a player could get alot of them really fast. Such a thing I am fairly certain would be hit up like an exploit, and soon after nerfed for game balance.

One point I have not seen mentioned yet, is Game Lore! I think it will be great to quest through the history of one of the races I haven't played yet.

Instead of hoping that it will only be 200 more hours of farming to max my smithing...

... or hoping that enough people care to bother with backflagging...

... we will all be faced with the same challenges together.

This experiment will fail, utterly.

See...people will be bringing something to this server that we didn't have the first time the expansions launched: Knowledge.

We know where the mobs are, and exactly how they fight.

We know what loot they drop, what the level restrictions on the loot might be, and whether or not the loot is worth ... looting.

We know where all the camp spots are and where to go to get the best possible doohickies for each class/level.

Some of us even know the tricks going all the way back to Beta that one may use to PL one's self and/or one's friends very quickly.

If they've really rolled back the tradeskills and such too, some of us remember the 8pp profit per combine exploits that could put a tidy pile into one's coffers in a hurry.

Anyone remember AoE groups?
The fear well in Nurga?
Powerlevelling via damage shields?

I give it about a week before some group or guild who *really* knows the old content and how to use it find themselves sitting around at level 50+ waiting for others to catch up so they can raid -- and after that it will all be opened just as fast as they can raid their way into it...

A 3-night-a-week raiding guild could open this server *completely* in way under a year.

So yeah...it will be interesting to see what happens, but I'm not gonna relive levels 1-70 to watch.

Speaking for my friends and I who don't and never have or will raid 24/7 for l33t gear, we will be playing when and if ever sony makes a pvp progression server, we've been asking and fighting for one since luclin.

I CANT WAIT!!!!!!!!!

i will be rolling a rog this time around(first char was a warrior and yes ive done everything in my opinion) my warrior has done everything "Special" in this game. i got my 1.0 just after kunark came out. i got my 1.5 just after WoW came out, and 2.0 before DoN... ive played since the start.

going back and thinking about it, the best days of this game were lfg in Blackburrow, i remember my first corpse run... i almost cried ( was 11 then i think) when i died at the bottom of Blackburrow... but a nice barbarian dragged my corpse up for me.

or when i tried to run to freeport from Qeynos at level 11... died in Highold and restarted my char and lost tons of bronze gear which was godlike, but thats because ur characters corpse DELETED after 7 days, there was no shadowrest.... and no pok... or Spires to luclan.

these were the best days of EQ and i dont care how many people say this will be a normal server in a month... i wont believe it and i will bet a million dollars ( if i had ) that this server wont be at Planes of Power in 1 year.

sorry have to add this

how long have u played EQ? did u not play threw velious or luclin? or did u skip them even now with a raiding guild. consider if Vexthal is the progression for Luclin to go to Planes of Power... I play on FV server now... and our guild took 6+ months of constant (someone always farming) to get a raid force into VT... and the nice thing was on FV server u could trade the shards.... so that made it quicker...

there is over 10 expansions now isnt there? kunark, Velious, SoL, PoP , LoY , LDoN, GoD, OoW, DoN, DoD, PoR... ya there is 11... that what ur saying is it will take 1 month for guilds tog et threw each expansion??!?! wtf raid guild does that now!?! smartin up people this server will not be unlocked full for 2-3 years if not more...

Here's my reason for going. I want a challenge. End of story.

Now-a-days ppl just go to bazaar and buy 500k worth of tweak gear and rampage though lvls. I on the other hand like to earn what I have. Not to mention to get to the challenging areas of the game now you need to be in a raiding guild to be able to do and they can be a pain to get into sometimes. This gives ppl a chance to start off with a challenge without some ******** tweak coming in and clearing the zone along with your camped area. Has happen to me many of times while I was having fun on a lowbie.

I have played on EQ off and on since it first started, I moved on then returned after trying them all.

But I am here again after i settled on AB server using the name of Brezer Midcharm and Skydancer which now has an x behind it since they combined servers.

The reason I left EQ was crap Gm's and very poor Customer service. Not sure if they have changed all that but the whole company seem to be run by idiots.

Not sure if any of the above have changed, I truly hope so.

The lure of a return to the old days is the main reason I am here now, I had so much fun while drifting from Guild to guild trying to find the right mix of european and US players so as to enjoy the game at any time of the day.

It failed to hold me and I like many left to try EQII and many other wanna be's. I will log on to try it one more time, as the top end of the game has little value to me with all the toys being so easy to buy off the shelf.

I still remember the days of handing in my CB belts then getting up to a level where i could start selling CB belts by the tons and also selling the junk which you get for handing it in.

My chanter was minted by lvl 20 hehe. My druid was porting to all part for good fares, and on the whole i made lot's of great friends around the world. To many to mention like Curosity/Mystero/Inshado/Girwen and many more.

If this can help make it as much fun as it was then I will be there to see and watch for a short time, or even until the Holy Grail goes gold while i'm in it.

No Doubt Dvinn our path will cross again some day soon.

Shoot count me in for this I have played for years but i am still trying to "catch up" and its not fun got a 70 war that is not even PoT flagged hell he dont even have his 1.0 yet so hell yes I am going to play on this server and try to move up with the rest of the people besides I like to develope my char, after all thats what this game is all about right and I see this server as a great oppertunity to see and do all those things that I would otherwise not be able to do.

Been there, done that, don't miss it.

/shrug

I started right after Velious came out. I remember low level corpses poofing after 8 minutes or so. I remember crowded camps in EC. I remember dying in Blackburrow while trying to get out of Everfrost. I remember crowded newbie zones. I remember all that stuff plenty good, I don't need to relive it to get it back.

Will all the old bugs still be there? The bugs that no one complains about now only because no one plays the zones that they are a part of?

IMHO, the thing that made the old game so cool was meeting the same five other people every night, and playing together and leveling together and exploring new zones together. I guess that part could start hapenning again. But my life is different now from how it was back in 2000. I can't play every night, and unless I miraculously found a group of people who only played when I did, that version of EQ would be unavailable to me any way.

If there is only one of these servers, it will be very very crowded. And for a couple of months, the old servers will be very very empty. Yuck.

Well, I am unhappy about this all the way around. Maybe it is time to find some other way to waste my life.

Crap.

i started back in 2000 and quit when my account got stolen from a guildy when i let them borrow my cleric for some backflagging. i was time flagged and then all was lost, so i quit.

I'm looking forward to this server because i've tried coming back lately and there is no one at all to party with. I hope on this new server i can start over with many other people and relive the moments i enjoyed so much and get back to time.
#41 May 14 2006 at 10:23 PM Rating: Decent
I haven't had the desire to even play EQ for months (I still keep my two accounts active because I know the urge can strike anytime), although this sounds interesting enough to try.

I'm sure SOMEONE will find a way to ruin things for everyone, but that's inevitible and will happen to everything throughout history, so we can just enjoy this until then.

06.05.15

likely will play if i can finally play an Ewok Jedi... 47% for, 40% against The Combine due mid June 2006 (currently by invitation only in Test server.)

Most of the expansions should be opened just in time for $oE to open it's Vanguard:saga of Heroes servers in November 2006.

btw, w/o Sigil's V:SoH $oE would be going out of business, having lost about 400,000 subscribers (currently <200k subscribers TOTAL,) besides this upcoming 'Progressive' server(s) and V:SoH the few still paying subscribers would really have no reason to stick around.

btw, the official unofficial The Combine bbs;
the official forum.

Some old EQ commands one might want to make note of.

fyi, over TWENTYFIVE MMO will be entering retail by the end of 2006.

ps. the $25ish Titanium (? or is it platinum) set of expansions is a prety good deal for those wanting to get CHEAP all the expansions and start fresh.

Some folks seem to think that the expansions will get opened server-wide. It is my guess that the expansions will be character specific (i.e. your character would have to be "flagged" for any given expansion). The one thing that I would like to know, though, is how are they going to handle races/classes that were introduced later in the game (Iksars, Vah Shir, Berserkers, etc.)? It will be interesting to see how everything is going to play out.

They've made official statements about both of these things:

1) Expansions will be unlocked serverwide... not on a per character or per guild basis.
2) Races and classes won't be unlocked until the expansion they were released in were unlocked.

Mind you, both of these are subject to change. They initially said the tutorial would be there but later renegged. I don't see them changing (1) as that would be a HUGE coding change, but they may allow Berserkers and Beastlords even if they don't allow Guktans and Vah Shir.

but at least it gives an opportunity to move thru the content as it was brought out, however accelerated that may be.

i'm looking forward to raising a character in it's home, adventuring further and further from that home as the character matures and having some other people around these zones to do it with. that's about all i'm expecting.

i won't mind giving it a try but those who have played since the begining of the game or knwo alot about it (i.e went back and visited it all did some of the quests, ect) will have a major upper hand in this they already did it once (or more depending on chracters) so what would be so hard about doing it again??

see i started before PoP came out so i had to use nexus to get around and ect i made a druid just so i could port around i know what it was like to have no plane of knowledge (personally now the only reason i hit POK is to hit the planes to farm 61-65 spells, or get buffs for my warrior) other than that i'm in a zone sitting lfg for that zone or ones close by or actually killing something.

i'm not like sure on if people are still going to box but it would truly at this point be pointless to do it.

but thats just an opinion

You can't go back.

This is a bad idea that whiney players have been wanting for oh so very long. They think it will be oh so grand and wonderful just like the good old days. Well, you can't go back. The newness and the wonderment of seeing Kunark for the first time when you aren't even level 50 yet and Kunark is brand new just won't happen. Every decent exp spot will be taken, people will know how to use the system, people will be fighting for anything decent. KSing and ninjaing will be rampant. Oh how fun!

I wore a BCP proudly for quite some time, if that was my best choice of gear again, I would still think it was a lame BP.

You can't go back.

I have been playing since 1999 and have seen all the expansions as they came out. In every case I was not part of the guilds that finished off the top mobs. Heck I never even fought Vox and Nagafen, much less won any of their loot. I didnt even go to Hate until I was lvl 65, and still have never seen the inside of Fire/water/earth/air zones in PoP. I went to the depths of lower Guk for the first time AFTER my bard was lvl 70 and I figured I wanted that illusion mask.
I got my first piece of raid-level gear, ever, last week and it was the Songblade Eternal off of a tier 5 Time god that was going to rot because nobody wanted it.
My point is, only those ppl who enjoy raiding and are raiding seven days a week will be the ones to unlock a zone. Everybody else will just do some pickup groups or whatever is fun or enjoyable for them or say things like "oh I can hunt in Crystal caverns now, I liked that zone, great." Everybody will just be banging along at their own pace anyway.
The difference here is that there will be more ppl of lower levels to group with. There will not be 100 ppl in Lake of Ill omen because there are better spots to gain exp now.
Even Rathe mtns has had a change that they said they will not undo. With mob targeting there limited as it currently is, it wont be the zone to hit anymore, even with everything else locked up.
For many ppl it will be the norm to just wait a while and enjoy the scenery, maybe stage a old-fashioned wedding in west commonlands, and the next expansion will be unlocked for them. "Why camp a spot for miserable hours on end for a lame shoulder item when you can just do the coldain 8th shawl in a month?"
Plus ppl wont have the same demand for LDON tradeskills like they did when it was the newest expansion. I made a ton of money doing that but it wont be the way to go this time around. If all you have to do is wait until someone maxes out thier charm augment with 40 wins in each LDON zone, everyone will be cheering the dude who does it and unlocks Gates of Discord, because now they can stop doing LDON's and take on some real zones.
Heck, many ppl have even now never seen the inside of Qvic. How is that going to change on a progression server? Ppl wont be raiding all the time if they aren't now, and they will still be in the same boat.

Newer content is supposed to pique your interest. If you just wait around doing stuff till your lvl 50 and POP is unlocked you will just be joining the rest of the ppl in PoJustice killing rats again. Working thru the different flags of the planes is a guild accomplishment not just a raid-force walkthrough strat. Many many ppl tell me they dont like backflagging. Doing a persons epic event several times for several ppl is fine but just killing the same old worthless mob over and over is a pain.

For the guild that takes out Vulak and unlocks Luclin, do you honestly think that they will be spending a ton of time farming Vulak and TOV for thier whole guild to get a full suit of skyshrine armors? NO, they will be hitting up zones for the Vex Thall keys and camping Szzharah temple instead.

For ppl who think that this concept will put everyone on equal footing: the answer is yes, for about a week to a month. I honestly believe that for this server everybody should be in the same guild or else you are just going to be missing all the high level stuff again this time around.

When I created a halfling rogue so I could have an alt to pick hard locks, my first trip with him to Rivervale was at lvl 52. There just wasnt any reason to go there. That appears to be the concept behind this server.

One nice thing will be the tradeskillers wont have to pay a zillion platinum for stuff. No more ppl wanting 10p each for a dumb azz spiderling silk. 2p a stack for JOO!!

I started playing in 1999, and then stopped about mid 2001, I have just started to get back into the game, and am going to get my nephews started, it will be nice to start characters on a server where there will be a chance for them to see why I got into the game to begin with.
