I posted this on the Mages board and got no response so am tryin here.........."My guild doesn't allow any pets on Raids. I have the Pet Hold AA, but I still can't take my lvl 66 Air Pet along. Anyone else run into this situation? I can't get a clear answer as to why the general ban is in place. Probably due to a bad experiance some Guild Officer had. I was wondering if it was just my guild or if other Mage/Pet Classes face this ban." Thanks for any input.

That's definitely strange, I've only ever heard of the requirement to have the Pet Hold AA but never a blanket refusal for pets like that.

Some of the raids my guild does are no pet. But it is only in zones with pathing problems or some special situation. I can't imagine why there would be a blanket ban.

sounds like a guild that has no idea what they are doing in a raid.

pets are great on most raids. there are places that pets should be put away for a time, or placed a long ways out of range, but as long as the owner keeps the pet on a tight leash there is not reason to NOT have a pet and their DPS and other benifits on a raid.

It sounds to me like your guild leaders either dont know how to think outside the box, or dont want to. If your raids are sucessfull with their formula, more power to them.
But, on the other hand, it seems to me like they are striping you and fellow pet users of a valuable resource. You base your strategy,(the science or art of military command as applied to the overall conduct of large-scale combat operations), on the ability to use your magic and your pet to the best advantage possable.
This is a stretch ... But along time ago the Admirals said that no aeroplane would ever be able to sink a Battleship.
You are the modern Aircraft Carrier .. and your pet is an F18.
It seems to me using that analogy .. it would be stupid to leave your aircarft behind when you went into battle.

This is just my opinion on the subject

can't think of a reason either unless it has to do with reducing lag.

Have you tried asking the GL in question as to the why of this decision?

Some raid strategies (and I emphasize SOME) would blow up if a wayward pet got aggro on the wrong mob at the wrong time.

It is possible the RL just did not want to deal with the possibility of any wayward pet, even if some people had pet hold AA.

I cannot image *no pets* on ANY and EVERY raid, it would seriously deplete the DPS.

Our guild has a fairly strict pet rule on raids.

1. You must have the pet hold AA and USE IT after every fight.
2. If a pet runs out on an inc AE, that owner looses pet privledges for the rest of the raid.
3. No swarm pets except on burn calls.

Pretty simple and fair but you'd be surprised at the number of pet owners that lose them fairly early on every raid.

i would think it is because of push to start with.

alot of todays raids have directional, or multi direction AE's that need to have the mob either cornered, or turned at certain times to avoid them.

because of the above, and raid leaders bad experiences, at times i could see where they would rather just do away with the issue, then address it.

pet hold is a must, and using your pet corectly is a must as well. the pet user must constanly re position themself, call the pet off, then re send them on the corect side of the mob.

thats what makes it tough, the pet attacks from the side there master was on at the time of sending. so as long as the pet class is on there toes, pets shouldn't be a problem. it is the pet users that just "fire and forget" that can give pets a bad name.

this is a guild issue you should take up with all pet users in your guild.

pet push really isn't any bigger than melee pc push is, unless you're using a stun proc.

there's no reason not to use pets on raids, if you have hold, your officers sound like momos.
