How does the bestiary determine a mobs level if it just cons red to a level 70? I see level 75s, 80s, 85s and that keeper of lost things is level 99, according to it. How does it confirm that?

I remember an admin once posted that, if they're red to the max level in the game (which was.. 60?, at the time of this post), that the level was based on difficulty. Such as, if the MOB is red to 70, but easy, they'll give it a 73. A little harder, 75. A good bit harder, 80. Harder still, 85.

Some may be data-mined, but, if they were, I believe there wouldn't be so many errors in them. Whenever the level cap goes up, a number of MOBs seem to need level changes, since their cons can now more accurately place them.

There are .. ways .. of finding out a mobs level.

The EQ data stream has exact mob levels in it, thus, any mobs level can be accurately determined.

If it was just random guessing, then every high end raid bosses level would have to be changed in le bestiary after every level raise - when most of them are pretty accurate.

Oh com'n. Alla gets monster info through submissions. I can't count the number of "level correction" posts I've seen on monsters. This isn't the programming, nitty-gritty stuff you're used to, Groogle! Much of it's just sumbission and guess work.

some of it is people guessing, an awful lot of the submissions aren't.

you'll note discussion in a lot of the PoP-era boss threads where one person just says "no.. really. it's level 74. trust me."
