GoMana Proc and other questionsFollow

Last night I finally acquired the AAs for Gift of Mana. Yay! Would mean a bit more if I had Ether Flame(more on this later), but nonetheless, very happy to get this. Anyway, after I got it, I started chain-casting my Spark spells to get GoM to proc, and by the time that it finally did, I was very low on mana--about 5% left (roughly 300mana). Oh, well I thought, no biggie, GoM proc'd, so next spell won't cost but a single point of mana. Hit up my biggest nuke (White Fire--mana cost 704), and get the Insufficient Mana to Cast this Spell message. So apparently I must have the required amount of mana to cast my spells normally, as if GoM had not proc'd, in order for GoM to work?

Also, I'm currently stuck in a weird position atm. I've decided recently that I want to join a hard-core raiding guild. I've seen much of the non-raiding world, and it's about time to see and fight things I've never seen or fought before. In fact, I think the last raid (not to mention the biggest raid I've been on) that I did was Faydedar when I was in my 50s years ago. I've been level 70 for a month or 2 now, and almost regularly without fail, if I get in a good group someone eventually asks me why I'm not guilded, tries to recruit me and so forth. I love the compliment, but I refuse to join a non-raiding guild just to use them to get the necessary items/stats I need to be more appealing to a raiding guild. However, I'm not quite ready to join a raiding guild either. I've been working on resists--have all above 200 self-buffed, and magic over 300 (I have 3 of the 4 DoN +12 augs). Most guild websites I've perused state needing all resists over 300. Also, I have no level 70 spells, only 1 69 spell, and only 3 68 spells. I have only done 2 DoD spell missions, when I was lucky enough to hook up with some friends doing them. It would seem to me that the best course of action would be to join the guild in order to get the help to get the spell missions done, but would a hardcore raiding guild invite me in, if I don't have the best spell in my repertoire? Please, if anyone's been in this type of position before, I could use the advice. Thanks

Gift of Mana is not something you should be relying on. Continue fighting as you always do, but when Gift of Mana procs then you've got a free heavy cost heal or nuke that you can throw in there.

Oh, I know, forgot to mention that I was just chain-casting that particular time to get GoM to proc, just to see what kind of message/spell icon I get, so that I know what to look for in the future. It wasn't something I was planning on doing regularly.

as weird as it is, yeah, you need enough mana to cast the spell normally to use gom.

DoDH spell missions aren't the easiest things to get done. Most guilds will take most classes without them. Moreover, you're a wizard. Your higher spells add more efficiency to you, but no new capabilities. It shouldn't be a huge deal.

Something I've noticed about GoM is it tends to proc in clumps. I've had multiple guildies corraborate this feeling. You cast for a dozen battles with no GoM and then you get like 6 during two battles with 3 in a row or something.

Just app yourself to a guild

Gear really isn't that big of a deal these days it's easy enough to gear up an app these days with all of the instances.

I would work on getting your lvl 70 spells asap(CF and ACF if you can since one of those will be one of the main ones you use along with Claw of Vox and mana weave along with EF).

ACF is a guild-only drop, and you'll probably get it in your first anguish raid.

True

I'd still work on getting CF and CoV.........Mana weave and EF would be helpful as well.

Elorian, you pretty much have summed up my whole dilemma. You say I should be working on those spells....the point of the issue is I HAVE been trying--to get spell missions done, and working on DoN progression to get CoVox. I just completed tier 1, and have started working on tier 2. However in order to complete tier 2 I need to do an Emoush raid, and another raid IIRC. Those are rather difficult to just do pick-up style.

As far as spell missions go, I keep hearing people offer 5k and more just to get a group together to do a spell mission, if that's what it takes, I won't be doing them anytime soon. To illustrate my frustration--last night I logged on for a little bit, just kinda goofing around, getting my last +12saves DoN aug, and I threw up my LFG tag in case something interesting pops up. Just before I was thinking of logging and going to bed I get a tell from a monk asking me if I would like to rep him for a 69.1 mission. Knowing how badly I need the spells I decided to forgoe my impending slumber and accept his invite. Just before I port to Undershore, he tells me the name of the leader and that I should get an invite soon. I zone in to Undershore, send tell to leader for invite since I hadn't seen it yet, and he informs me that the group had someone else in mind, so sorry. You can understand my frustration, I hope, and so it begs another question....Do unguilded people at the higher levels get discriminated against by guilded peeps? I've seen many people mention on this board that they hate doing any kind of group with anyone outside of their guild, and, at the very least despise pick-up groups with just anyone--scared of the MM factor I suppose. But I have grouped with many people from many guilds, and I'm pretty sure (I hope) that I have a favorable reputation for being a decent player. Anyway, like I said, I don't want to be a guild hopper and just join up with a guild that doesn't raid at convenient times for me just so I can get the help I need to be raid-worthy. The guild I'm most keen on joining states on their website how applicants need to get KT flagged on our own, within a month of applying, and that they MAY be able to help, but not to count on it. If I can't get help for a Tipt run, then what's the likelihood of getting help for all the other stuff I need help with? Bah, maybe I'm just super frustrated, and I need to look into another guild....but their raid times are perfect :(. Oh well, and btw, I do have friends in game, but everyone has their own agendas a lot of times, and I hate asking them to side track their own needs to help me out.

Anyway, thanks for the posts guys

it's not really that people in guilds discriminate against people out of guilds, it's that people who have a lot of friends that they know are 100% reliable players tend to avoid grouping with people they don't know.

I'd bet money you'll get helped with tipt. Guilds say "we may not help you" because they don't want people whining about not getting helped yet. If you're nice about it, and persistent, you'll get guild help with your flag.

I'll be honest.

I usually never grouped with people that weren't guilded or that I knew. Basically it's as czae said, when I saw someone in CoL, CFu, RoV or AO or even CoN IF or VF I knew that they were good players that I could count on and knew there class. That being said I wasn't super picky especially if I joined a pick up group and if the players were good I would usually FList them so I could pick them up if I needed someone or what not(hell I'd also invite them to my first family guild(I still had some lowbie alts and a baz bot in there to help out and keep in touch).

What kind of raid guild are you looking for?

It's easy to get a guild as a wizard we are still the best burst and 2nd or 3rd best sustained DPS(based on versitility)..(even though SoE hates us and we are broken =p) and guilds want that.

Really like I said before all you need to do is bust your *** to get your spells(I know it can be hard...very hard!!!). THe rest will come later. AAs can be somewhat important but most guilds will overlook them as long as you are working on them...Spells>AAs....
Gear doesn't matter nor do resists, guilds will more than likely gear you up.

Just work on you spells. If it costs you PP to get them then spend it Trust me once you are in a good raiding guild PP comes super easy(just make some friends and group all the plat camps =p)

pfft, rogues and zerks equal wizards even in a good number of short fight parses.
#13 Apr 24 2006 at 11:43 PM Rating: Decent
which is why we are 2 or 3 =p

Meh for zerkers it depends......they die.........alot.......more than I do.......which is bad =p

Necros get up there but it depends on the mob..........if the mob as crap resists(IE bad fire and psn res).........NECROS>ALL........if the mob is fire res.........necros are SoL =p........which is why I love wizzies..........Fire we own in burst and sustained(unless it is a long fight).........Ice CoV is nice with GoMed EF =p Magic.........Manaweave+GoM+EF=**** is ****in dead =p...........WE DON'T TALK ABOUT RES MOBS!!!!!!!!

i am guilty of discrimination :-(

when i go LFG (not very often) as soon as i get a tell asking me to join, first thing i do is a /who all so and so. to check what guild they are in.

i have been playing long enough that i know what stages of progress most of the guilds on drinal are at, so knowing what progress they are, you then know the type of gear that person will have. but when i see someone ungilded/anon/or some strange guild name that i saw advertising recruiting in PoK, i say no to the invite.

altho to be honest, i say no 90% of the time no matter what. reason for this is i am not looking to grind exp. i want to do something fun.

last night i got a tell from some random person to go help them get their lvl 55 aura. my knee jerk reaction was to say no. but then i thought about it, it was the type of thing i like to do, help someone. it realy made this persons day that i went and took out those 4 mobs. was actualy very rewarding feeling for me, and was fun to boot.

anyway, i got off track...

yes people discriminate to non guilded people, and also how do you say...lowbie guilds.
