racial xp bonus/penalty still there?Follow

#1 Apr 12 2006 at 3:46 PM Rating: Decent
years ago when i left EQ, the following xp penalties/bonus were in play (or close to the #s below) are they still there:

human, elf (all 3), dwarf, gnome = none
halfling = 5 or 10% BONUS
ogre = 5% penalty
troll/iksar = 10% penalty
vah shir = none
froglock = ???

this was true at least up to the gOd expansion, has this been modified, removed, or left in place since?

Your numbers are a bit off but, yes, racial xp modifiers still exist.

still in place, although I think some of your penalty numbers are pretty decently off.

The ole Racial Modifier thread

Halflings: +5%
Barbarians: -5%
Ogres: -15%
Troll/Iksar: -20%

Pretty sure the rest are non-modified. Slam, Regen and Stun Immunity seem to be the major causes of xp penalties and Frogloks & Vah Shir both lack those (and VS have the food penalty).

What, nobody wants to be short? How come us halflings get an xp bonus. Not that I'm complaining at all. :) Just curious if anyone knows why.

edit:
Just read the thread. It looks like it is because nobody wanted or wants to be a Halfling. LOL They also say Humans should have gotten some kind of Race bonus for havin "mediocre" stats.

summary of the modifiers you also find here: http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/EverQuest/Frequently_Asked_Questions#Exp._Boni

as to the VS food penalty, not sure, but wasn't it twice as fast?

Common lore has it that humans were intended to get the +5% bonus for having average stats and no special racial abilities. However, it was accidentally coded to the halflings (who do get infravision and some decent stats). While the mistake was acknowledged, it was never anything the Powers that Be were willing to muck around with fixing.

I can't say with certainity that that's the fact but it sounds plausible. Given that the previous xp "fixes" for grouping and removal of class penalties wasn't a real fix but a slapped on patch with an artifical modifier, I can believe that truely editing the xp mod code is more difficult than you'd assume.

no the halfling bonus was inteneded and mentioned to be happening before X patch. then on that patch it went live. it was to intice players to play the halfling pally (new for that race at that time), but most people just made ling dr00dz

the halfing xp bonus has been around way longer than halfling pallies have been

yes, but it was increased the patch after the pallies were introduced.

no, it wasn't.

the only change to xp modifiers, ever, was the removal of the hybrid penalty.

I have to agree with Groggle on this one. The xp penalty and bonuses were hardcoded into the game pre-original release.

We just didn't know enough about the game to realize it at the time.

what ever on that one guys, but SoE did make mention after the pally for halflings went live that they were going to increase the xp bonus for that race to entice players to use them.

the hybrid penalties was droped a long time before that change to playable classes per race.

sadly soe does not provide access to all of their patch notes since release, or id did it out for you.

Have at it

Edit: March 19, 2002 was when paladins became a halfling playable class, just to get you started.

the pally class was added to the lings in March of 2002. so a bit back that was.
