The way I feel is
EQ has spread itself too far. Basically saying the difference of gameplay from Kunark vs. PoRo is quite off-balance. I have heard alot about "
They need to update the old stuff before making new." but that's just not economical. But Sony is trying to buy sigil
LINK I look up to alot of the long time gamers of all ages from EQ. They have vast knowledge, which puts the game in a class of it's own. There is no comparing that to any newer game.
However, I do intend to try Vanguard, just because I believe what they say on the website about it.
LINK Server variety sounds like the strong point. They suggest multiple RP servers, catering to many "opinions" of what RP should be. (I for one feel EQ has almost zero RP factor to it, Firiona Vie is more of an IGE twink server than roleplaying). They suggest servers with only 1 character per account. (It always seemed like everyone in EQ has an alt to solve all their worries).
1) I am very disappointed in EQ's "stick-up-the-butt" graphics of the elven characters, and how they won't update character graphics customization. It is despicable seeing Guides in rainbow armor. Human's with V-neck chain tunics. Blue dark elves. If I see another enchanter with pink shoes I'm gonna hurl.
2) MQ2 is a tragedy. I don't like programmed farmers, or the fact that people can track mobs by name by level using their in game map! EQ2 was just as bad with macroquest. Hopefully Vanguard will solve some issues with complex and dynamic AI in combat.
3) I love tradeskills in EQ, tedious as they may be. Vanguard will be hard pressed to match it, even if they have a "sphere" dedicated to it. It sounds fishy to me.
4) It's hard to let go of the database. If I want a recipe, I go to Trader's Corner. I want Quest or Mob info, the beloved Alla's! Tech stat junk, we have Steelwarrior, etc. Vanguard might see some trouble with people who like the easy road, and don't like to figure things out on their own.
Last Call; The EQ community is just kinda dull to me. I suppose I have a different idea of interdependant gameplay than what EQ provides, which is what led me to multiboxing in the first place. I know I know.. It's an MMO and people should all get along and be happy. Me? I like being social, I am just to picky to play with most people. EQ is a game where small details throw the balance of battle, and I hate re-iterating the common petty crap. At any rate, Vanguard will be a nice vacation, but much like smoking, you never really quit, you just stop for a while. Lol
So here's to you EQ
and here's to Vanguard
and here's to the community
