How many people will TRULY leave EQ for Vangaurd?Follow

#52 Apr 19 2006 at 12:11 PM Rating: Decent
i've checked out Vanguard since this post.

i'll probably switch over. i got into EQ way too late in the game (about 6 months ago) and although i enjoy my time in Norrath, i feel like i'm missing much because i haven't been around to see how things developed.

i guess you'd say i just don't got that institutional knowledge and am looking forward to a game like EQ but not EQ that i can start from the beginning.

(WoW was my first attempt at an MMO and just didn't hold my attention AT all)

I have been readig the forums on the Vanguard site for a couple of weeks now and my general impression of the game is mixe.

There is very little of the basic information that is required to know if the game is going to be good.

No information about classes roles other than 1 liners and a few bits linked from fan sites.

very little information on how crafting is going to be delt with and less on the diplomacy side.

but the over all impression given by the posters is that they want the game only how they want it with no room for anyone elses preferences. The raider types want only good gear to drop in raids and cry foul when it is surgested that maybe group mobs requiring equal amount of effort in terms of skill or time should be rewarded with equal gear.

The PvP crowd insist that PvP absolutly MUST be in the game and free for all so they can kill anynoe at any time, regardless of game balance or if the person who they are PK'ing want PvP or not.

Think 200 posters with Googles "I am the only person who knows anything" attitude and thats basically what you have, unmoderated of course and with no knowlage of the game they are talking about(Unlike Google who lets face it IS generally correct).

The site is rife with speculation, and Sigil seem to have no interest in providing answers, in fact the only direct question i did have(conserning no of charicters allowed got refered to the FAQ which basically danced around the question without coming anywhere near answering it.

I like the general ideas behind the theory (20% casual/solo 60% group 20% raid content and a return to leveling being difficult and more than JUST a timesink) but i will reserve judgement untill the final product is loaded on my PC and i'm playing.

yes i'll certainly buy the game cause i work at a store that sells all the MMO's and i get discounts on them, and i'll try the 30 day trial but if i am not impressed by it (wow and EQ2 and FFXI didn't impress me, graphics did but other than that. game play didn't) i won't get a subscription to it...

also we are judging a game currently that isn't even out so yeah we can bad mouth it all we want but we truly have no idea how it's going to turn out, it may be like everquest or even better in the end product...

just keep that in mind.

The way I feel is EQ has spread itself too far. Basically saying the difference of gameplay from Kunark vs. PoRo is quite off-balance. I have heard alot about "They need to update the old stuff before making new." but that's just not economical. But Sony is trying to buy sigil LINK

I look up to alot of the long time gamers of all ages from EQ. They have vast knowledge, which puts the game in a class of it's own. There is no comparing that to any newer game.

However, I do intend to try Vanguard, just because I believe what they say on the website about it. LINK

Server variety sounds like the strong point. They suggest multiple RP servers, catering to many "opinions" of what RP should be. (I for one feel EQ has almost zero RP factor to it, Firiona Vie is more of an IGE twink server than roleplaying). They suggest servers with only 1 character per account. (It always seemed like everyone in EQ has an alt to solve all their worries).

1) I am very disappointed in EQ's "stick-up-the-butt" graphics of the elven characters, and how they won't update character graphics customization. It is despicable seeing Guides in rainbow armor. Human's with V-neck chain tunics. Blue dark elves. If I see another enchanter with pink shoes I'm gonna hurl.

2) MQ2 is a tragedy. I don't like programmed farmers, or the fact that people can track mobs by name by level using their in game map! EQ2 was just as bad with macroquest. Hopefully Vanguard will solve some issues with complex and dynamic AI in combat.

3) I love tradeskills in EQ, tedious as they may be. Vanguard will be hard pressed to match it, even if they have a "sphere" dedicated to it. It sounds fishy to me.

4) It's hard to let go of the database. If I want a recipe, I go to Trader's Corner. I want Quest or Mob info, the beloved Alla's! Tech stat junk, we have Steelwarrior, etc. Vanguard might see some trouble with people who like the easy road, and don't like to figure things out on their own.

Last Call; The EQ community is just kinda dull to me. I suppose I have a different idea of interdependant gameplay than what EQ provides, which is what led me to multiboxing in the first place. I know I know.. It's an MMO and people should all get along and be happy. Me? I like being social, I am just to picky to play with most people. EQ is a game where small details throw the balance of battle, and I hate re-iterating the common petty crap. At any rate, Vanguard will be a nice vacation, but much like smoking, you never really quit, you just stop for a while. Lol

So here's to you EQ Smiley: boozing and here's to Vanguard Smiley: boozing and here's to the community Smiley: boozing and her'sh to me Smiley: boozing an.. /hiccup I love /hiccup joo guys Smiley: boozing and can somone call me a cab pls?

Just wanted to add some more links to this post;

(Note: Vanguard will be available on the station pass LINK)

Here's a good forum on game info LINK

And some screen shots LINK

Edit: I had to add this quote from the Vanguard Forum;

User Interface – Tom King and his cohorts are having a field day with the completely XML-based interface...it will be totally user customizable and will provide great information for the player without seriously interfering with your visual of the action. The one thing to be aware of here is that you won't be able to receive more information than the interface gives by default. In other words, you won't be able to "cheat" the game through mods to the interface.

Goodbye MQ2! Smiley: grinEdit

I will be all over Vanguard like a fatkid on chocolate (sorry had to say it lol)

Quote:
The game is going to be challenging.

The game is going to focus on character advancement, item acquisition, and interdependence to build community and teamwork.

If I had to compare it to another game, take original EQ, Kunark, and Velious -- that sort of challenge

that is from the producer of Vanguard... EQ was at its Prime and peak when velious and kunark had come out. after that i must say it started to fall... the lore started to become crappy, and well the zones added werent anything "Spectacular"

Vanguard is gonna be challenging like EQ was before people had some knowledge of the game and had easy forms of travel, with qualititys from EQ2(please dont put to many from eq2 lol) ultima, DOaC, and probally every other MMO fantasy game out there...

Quote:
Our team consists of original EverQuest team members, EverQuest expansion team members, as well as team members from EverQuest 2 and EverQuest Online Adventures (PS/2), and other MMOGs.

Sony relized eq2 failed... they did everything they could to try and fix it but it was dieing to fast... they no what they did wrong, making 2 starting cities, not being able to choose your class till 20 and so on and so forth. Vanguard will not be like any SOE game you have played unless u played Everquest Pre Shadows of luclin.

This game is not gonna be "Noob" friendly its gonna be a challenge, your gonna get fustrated ( just like old eq ) but you will also be so happy when u get those awsome rewards for your time and hard work...( last time i got super excited over a VG was when i got my Blade of carange in EQ1 pre SoL ) hope fully this game will bring back all them good fealings but from the sounds of it, im sure it will :)

this game is the King to be of MMORPG's...

I just bought Titanium version of EQ, and i'm not really interested in Vanguard. I haven't even started yet so EQ better not stop soon because I like getting into things and getting up in the ranks and having more fun.I might try some other MMORPGs later but not anytime soon.

wow and eq2 are almost identical from my experience. Maybe the end game is different but I played each one till about level 30 and lost interest.
I have to at least give vanguard a try, there has been so much hype about it for years now. There's a lot I still want to do in eq too though, so personally I like that they will be on the station pass.
