Personally I am really looking forward to this. I just cannot make up my mind what to play.

I can't tell you how happy I am to see this coming. As a relatively new adventurer in EQ (less than one year playing) I've yet to see a great deal of the content that the game has to offer. Part of that is because of my late entry into the game, another part of it is because of the difficulty in getting low level groups together.

During my time in EQ I've found that the adventuring is the most enjoyable part. While I will admit that I did find the monster missions to be somewhat tedious (albeit an interesting break from traditional grinding) the LDoN content truly grabbed me and drew me in. The only drawback to them at this time is again, finding low level groups to do them with. With this kind of progressive server once the LDoN expansion is unlocked people will be flooding into them once again, allowing me to become part of the adventure rather than being on the outside looking in. Add into that the fact that I'll be able to consistantly enjoy the expansion content as it becomes available and suddenly my late entry into the game is negated.

This is perhaps one of the best marketing ideas to come to Everquest. New players can see it all as it happens, seasoned veterans can revisit the old days, and everyone in between can see the world again for the first time. My hat is off to SOE.

WHAT!!!!
.............
*Falls forward, dead from excitement and happiness*

I started playing right after PoP was released, so by all accounts I missed a lot of the old content, but even those days, before everyone bought PoP, were the best of my gaming experience. This is good incentive to come back to EverQuest...

2 things though: 1:What happens when PoP is unlocked? then we're back to the new ways, which few like. And 2: Were going to need more than 1 server, it would be full all the time... 2-3 might work :D

Jakaris is right, there are ggoing to be some people who are going to rush trhough it to unlock everything and ruin it for others.

Other than that...............I CANT WAIT!!!

Now if they would just come up with a way for me to get my 60/70 spells which seem to have an insanely low drop rate for the number of people that need them.

Thor, I'm suprised you haven't commented on this.
I'd think it would be your cup of tea.

This server may be lightly populated at first. Once they announce a level increase I will bet many if not all casual players will flock to this server.

Pat soe on the back for having a good idea and listening to people on this. Still too little to late for many.

Many of us newbies have been spoiled(I myself included)

No more....
free buffs
free ports(PoK doesnt work on my comp)
free handme down gear(that will be uber on new server)
free plat

but on the bright side...
you dont need buffs like temp cause you dont have to solo
you dont need ports cause there will be people to group with in zones you are in
you dont need uber gear because gear your level will be fine when you group
you wont need free plat cause crap will sell for more

The thing i like most is that all of a sudden the starting cities are relevent again. I hope they use the new upgraded freeport.

Wonder if they will bring back the boats

I hate to mention reality here, but I will remain cautiously optimistic. I think the idea is great but I worry about SOE's implementation of it. I also started playing just after PoP came out after hearing the stories about EQ from a coworker. Hearing all the stories he had to tell and then finding out that the world described to me just didn't exist anymore was disappointing. I look forward to checking this out.

As a government trained pessimist (among other things) I wonder if this is related to Vanguard Saga of Heros at all. Their press announcements have been quite pointed in the area of the game being challenging like the original EQ was. So this move, after how many years of players asking for this kind of server, could just be a SOE marketing plan to keep more of it's player base.

I agree Jav, this looks like a typical SoE kneejerk reaction to Vanguard.

And sorry guys this player is already sold hook, line, sinker and fishing rod on Vanguard, so no ammount of bribary or content is going to bring me back when i do go.

Still i hope the new server is up for a couple of months before it comes out so i can play old school for a while.

Agreed. There will be people who fly through this. After a month or two, this server will be just like any other.

Don't get me wrong, this is a great idea...better yet, a great starting point.

It will take a hell of a lot longer than a month to get through pop.

I disagree with that. I've just recently come back after about two years off, and I can tell you there are very few items a low level character can use floating around for sale out there. There's also next to no low level toons running around, so I suppose that makes sense. If nothing else this is a brand new server, something I don't believe has been offered in a long time. Guilds will be racing through content, sure, and probably tripping over one another, but it still gives the more casual player a chance to just start over. I'll be taking advantage of it for that reason.

Now yeah, when Vanguard comes out I'm going to be part of the exodus, but who knows when that will be? This will be a nice distraction till thet time comes. Anyone know when this server is scheduled for realease, though? I've been looking around but don't see anything definitive.

I agree as well, players won't be go through it as fast simply because of the gear that will be available. They'll go through it faster then when Everquest first released that content because they know what to expect, but the high end gear and twinking just won't be there.

I'll definitely be starting a toon on this server. It'd be great fun to actually see the older zones populated. I'm also going to be jumping on the vanguard ship. Maybe this server would be my back up when the vanguard servers are down.

As far as when this old EQ server will be available, I'm guessing it will be really close to Vanguard's live date. It is a competition and I'm sure this is SOE's reasoning behind the idea. Vanguard is claiming things much like the old EQ experience, what better way for SOE to attract some of that player base?

I remember when Stromm was started. In less than a week you had many lvl 65's. They will need to limit the speed at which the new content is opened. Guilds, 4 boxer's etc will fly through this to be able to be the "First" to open the new sections. The Raid structure will allow even lame equip'ed toon's to take down hard content. What would 30+ level 10's do to BB even if they had rusty swords. If they do not give us at least 3 months before Kunark and then 2+ months before each expansion after that I will be disappointed.

And I agree, this could be lots of fun as we wait for Vanguard.

but stromm had every expansion.

added gear from revamped zones will help some... but not a ton.

original vox/naggy killed an awful lot of people.

it will take a pretty decent time to even see level 50s... because we'll have to grind it in lguk and solb.

with 100 other people wanting to do the same thing.

if you take present content (non bazaar twink) it would still be a tough raid, sure if you took toons with twinked gear from bazaar it wouldn't but that defeats the object.

The general idea is sound but knowing people like i do you can bet you house that people will be trying to "beat the system" after complaining that beating the system ruins the fun of course.

Still 3 -6 months of old school before Vanguard might be just what the doctor ordered, So what the Alla guild going to be called then? (You know theres going to be one so why not get it sorted now Smiley: wink2

there's a number of zones a group of 50's could do that drop 80 or 90 hp loot now, compared to the 10 or 20 hp loot of original eq. It'll definitely be a lot harder on this server.
