"You have been disconnected"Follow

A couple months ago, Everquest ran perfectly on this computer. Real Life took me away from the game, but I am now back on an even keel and decided to come back to the game. However, I can't seem to play....

When I first logged back in, I didn't have much time, so I was just going to put my trader up and leave. I got all the way into the game, pulled up the trade window, but couldn't get into trade mode. After a few minutes of wondering what was going on, I got "You have been disconnected." I logged back in, got trader mode working fine, but couldn't search the bazaar. "You have been disconnected."

I tried logging back in later that night with a different character. I couldn't even get into the world. After several attempts, I went to bed frustrated.

Today, I decided to creat a character on a different server. I got into the tutorial and even killed the jailer. But it hung on the zone into the mines.

Any suggestions as to what is going on here would be greatly appreciated.

EDIT: BTW, I have cleaned my computer out with compressed air. I have also deleted the zone files and all that jazz. I have turned off my firewall and anti-virus software.

have you one an advanced patch yet? try that, might be your missing some new files due to being away for awhile

Hi, hope this helps..
When I used to play, the "You have been disconnected" black screen usually came up if the internet cord was pulled by my little brother lol. I'm guessing your being disconnected is because your internet connection keeps cutting out. Have you tried turning off your computer, and resetting your modem and then router if you have one and then booting it back up. That usually worked with me. Make sure your cords are all plugged in securely and they arn't kinked.

Are you talking about the complete file check under advanced options? If so, then yes, I have done that.

Yes, I even disonnected the router entirely. My brother has Vonage, so the router can be disconnected. You just can't use the phone. I have also followed the instructions for configuring the router. But I really don't think it is a router issue, since I can get all the way into the game.

Thanks for the suggestions. Unfortunatly, I have all ready tried what has been suggested. Please keep the suggestions comming, though. There has to be something I am not thinking of.

I blamed EQ, but it turned out 99% of my disconnects are the cable company (not that often or long so hard to track). They are replacing streches of cable, and it has improved, but not fixed. EQ (I was surprised at this) holds connection well, I can unplug the router/modem and if fast enough (30 seconds or so), reset without completely disconnecting from EQ, if I see the lights going. The router demands to be unplugged and replugged each time connectivity drops.

Your ISP should have places you can do upload/download/speed tests, eliminating software issues. Since I have started using Charter Cable's speed tests and so on, I have been able to provide great proof of connectivity problems. It should not take long on the phone to eliminate your ISP, and it can't hurt.

Video card drivers can also be a problem. If you were off a couple of months, there was probably a video card update in there somewhere. A hot video card can also be a problem.

At least with EQ you can count on a patch soon, and that can stealth fix many EQ problems.

Kelti, I also use Charter, but was not able to locate the tests you mentioned. Perhaps you could provide me with a link?

Also, I tried to ping several websites and got a weird result.

PING: transmit failed, error code 65.

But I am able to browse the web just fine. Not sure what this means. Any techs out there able to explain to me what this means?

EDIT: A quick search on the error code showed several web sites that said it was due to Zone Alarm, firewall software that I happen to use. I turned it off, but still got the error message. Then, I uninstalled the software all together. Error message gone!!! I am trying to log in to EQ now. Wish me luck!

EDIT: DANG it. Still no-go.

I'm so compulsive I made a little Excel chart, a nice little line graph, including upload/download speeds (compared to the max it should be), doing it every hour, recording times (cable company was not paying much attention to our previous complaints, the chart seemed to boggle them, produced much action, including the destruction of a portion of our siding, while we wait patiently for reimbursement).

Our downloads drops occasionally to sometimes only 3 or 4 times faster than dial up, usualy more like half to 3/4 of max (3.0 mb/s is where it should be). Print out page 2 of 2 to present to the cable company, if needed, since you don't seem to be hitting max, but you're pretty close.

Check it especially when you get lag. We do get max a lot of the time, since we have an intermitant problem (and more people online at same time of course reduces it somewhat).

Hope you get on EQ soon.

Well, I have a new problem. I tried re-installing eq. I downloaded all the patches, but one file seems to hang. EQUI_NewUserWalkthroughWnd.xml

It says it is finished downloading, but instead of giving me the option to "Play", it still says "Download". When I click on Download, it starts downloading the file above again. I have tried several times, even rebooted, but it keeps doing the same thing.

Man, this is frustrating...

I was having this same problem and tried everything you mentioned, even updated my video card driver. I finally solved it by getting a new router. Cleared up the problem.

I had the same problem a while ago. I tried everything(or so I thought). One day it just worked smooth again. Very odd. Good luck to you

Here is an odd quesstion. What operating system do you run and how long has it been since you installed/reinstalled it?

I had serious disconnect issues with EQ once, and then one day I decided to try reinstalling Windows XP. All my issues went away.

I had a similar problem recently that just started up one day. it was just with one machine out of the 4 we use to play EQ. I tried a lot of different things. Ultimately the only way I got it fixed was to wipe the drive, reinstall windows, patch everything and then install EQ. Worked fine after that.

I think I might have had a virus on the machine or possibly some spy-ware that was causing the issue. Good luck.

You do not need to install EQ copying it works fine, just a reminder.

You can back it up and copy it back and it works great.
