Let me 1st say that this info was posted previosly, and Ive simply cut & paste here, but this is such a great help to me I wanted others to see it again .. The old spell Gems are just so much easier to diferentiate.
It seems I'm not the only person who absolutely hates the new buff icons. I open my spell book and I can't find the spells either. Looking at my gems, what spell is that in gem 1?
The only way to figure it out is to hover the mouse over it.
Memorizing the new images seems to be more difficult, since the images are all smaller.
Per someone's suggesting in General chat, I made a merge of the new ui with the old icons. Now I have the new system with the old images! MUCH better. I can actually find my spells again!
TIP: Probably don't want to be running everquest when you do this.
When I first tried this, I wasn't aware that if EQ doesn't find the files in the UI you select, it reads them from the DEFAULT. This means we only need to copy the old image files to our new UI folder.
The steps I followed: In Windows Explorer, in the Everquest folder (or Everquest Trilogy, or whatever yours happens to be called), is a subfolder called UIFILES. For me, it's C: program filessonyeverquestuifiles.
1: Create a new subfolder in uifiles. I called mine default_witholdspells, but you can call yours SONYSUCKS. Anything you want. It will be the name of the UI you load when you run eq later.
2: FROM the DEFAULT_OLD folder, copy and paste the following files to DEFAULT_WITHOLDSPELLS:
gemicons01.tga
gemicons02.tga
gemicons03.tga
spellbook01.tga
spellbook02.tga
spellbook03.tga
spellbook04.tga
spells01.tga
spells02.tga
spells03.tga
spells04.tga
spells05.tga
spells06.tga
spells07.tga
3: load up everquest, and use the loadskin button in Options to load DEFAULT_WITHOLDSPELLS or SONYSUCKS, or whatever you called the new folder.
