What do I NEED to start playing?Follow

I've quit wow and am returning to eq after about a 4 year break. Much has changed I see.

I tried asking this question at the eqforums but even though I have a station pass account I cant post on any of their damn boards. Dunno why...

Anyway, is the plat pack all I need for now? I know the titanium pack is in stores, or so I've heard, but I would just rather use the digital downloads exclusively if possible. Reason is I am 80 miles away from any store that still has eq on the shelfs.

Which expansions have low level content? I will be restarting as a barb shaman. I've gotten to level 4 in the escape to norrath trial thingie, but it bores me. I want to get back to everfrost and get killed by the vengeful trio!!

Also, can anyone tell me why skillups seem so slow now? I don't recall them being this slow. I remember at early levels there were a bit slower, but I'm almost level 5 now and have nothing other than my language over skill of 7. Defense, offense weapon, all of that.

Thanks.

Welcome back. Skill up do tend to be a bit slow. I recently rolled a pally to paly around a bit and I noticed that the skill ups were slower than I remembered..but that may just be old age kicking in.

To Start the Plat pack will have enought low end stuff in it for basic leveling....you will want to pick up some of the newer expantions for some of the benifits they offer.

There isnt a lot of low end group out there thses days. You Could Stromm a shot, there was a lot of lowbies in Gloomindeep last weekend, but you may have a few issues finding groups at your level. A lot of folk who reroll tend to stick to guild groups or get powerleveled so they can catch up with the player base. Shame of it is they miss out on a lot of fun content along the way.

Platinum is all you need, I just bought Titanium for the last...er 3 of the last 4 expansions, and havent gone to a single zone in any of those expansions yet.

As far as the skill up, if you are starting without good equipment (arent twinked) they will go up a bit slower, but I wouldnt worry about it. Your skill will catch up as you start lvling slower, by the time you are in your teens and twenties, your skill should stay pretty much maxed.

As for the skill ups, it seems to me that the reason they are slower is because the tutorial really starts you off at lvl 3 after hailing Arias and killing the kobold then returning the key and such. So you are basically starting off with all skills at 0 when they should be at or around 15. Before the tutorial, we had to kill rats and bats from lvl 1 and it was easier to maintain the skills where they should've been.

I'd also like to give you a suggestion, stick with the tutorial. Like you I was away for a long time, 3 years in my case. There are many things that remain the same but there are also many, many new features. When I returned, the new tutorial still wasn't in place and it was very difficult to get back up to speed. When the tutorial came out I re-rolled some new toons and it made my life a lot easier. In the tutorial, you'll be able to do solo and group tasks that will allow you to get to lvl 10 very quickly and also give you the opportunity to get some equipment. When you leave there, you'll be ready for other tasks that will allow you to get better lowbie gear and they are fun as well. I know its nice to reminisce about the old days killing gobies, skellies, bats and such but trust me those days are over. You'll level up faster and be better equipped than if you'd collected scores of orc belts or bone chips or whatever other pre velious lowbie quest we remember.

As for the expansion, like others have said, Platinum is fine but you should also consider Dragons of Norrath, no more 3 hour corpse runs are awsome.

Hope this helps,

Get titanium, have ebgames.com deliver it to your house. You will use stuff from the other expansions. If your main toon is under 60 which I assume it is, then wait on getting PoR, the extra back space is nice but not essentail and the price will drop before you get to use those zones, and if your account is that old you should have only 10 bank slots full so should not need slots 21-30 yet.
If you do not remeber you r old accoutn login and password, call EQ your toons are still there, they will find out for you, though unused under level 10 toons were deleted during the merges.

Make sure you've got a halfway decent videocard, too. My nVidia Geforce 4 MX400 won't run the game properly because it doesn't support certain shaders... >_< Yay for horrible graphic glitches...
