What R People Doing Now That MM R Nerfed?Follow

#1 Feb 26 2006 at 8:28 AM Rating: Default
So what are people doing now that the monster missions have been nerfed? Say what you will about them, they made it easier to find a group instead of waiting for an hour to do something. Right now, I'm trying to find where all the people went so that I can go there have have a chance of being included. Cazic Thule is supposedly the new hot zone for my level (70th rogue), but a recent visit there found only five avatars run by two people multiple boxing. A visit to Arcstone found a few more people but really not that many. So - where's the action now? Has everybody decided to sit back and let the uber-end PCs figure out the new expansion before they do anything? Any input?

Now people are actually playing their characters.

Five chars in Cazic-thule? You asked them if you could join, right? You know the group size is 6?
If you're having trouble finding a group, put one together yourself. Be proactive. What's your guild like? Your friends list? The LFG window? There are people all around to group with.

I always wondering to myself why I see around 10 level 70's sitting in PoK with lfg up. Why don't they just ask one another?

I'm not level 70, but a 56 war trying to get a group is pretty rough, but I almost always manage. Just /ooc in PoK and I can usually pick up a person or 2 willing to go with me. Might not have a healer, but with potions it's not to bad.

/shudder

I remember LFG in the 50's, was not too fun. I found that once reaching 70 there is usually lots more to do since more peeps are level 70 that in 50's.

Being proactive is a good suggestion. Instead of sitting in pok go to zones you want to grp in and /ooc. Imo your more likely to get a group if your already in the zone so grp does not have to wait for replacement to get there.

OoW is still pretty hot as well. I was on last night and wos, mpg, and rss were all pretty busy. So that'd be a good place to LFG if your not burned out on em.

..... never seen this be a problem. Its not like eq is attracting new players. Mostly what i have seen is people leveling alts and burning aa's.

I know I am doing the same thing. XPing and raiding the normal way. I have not done a MM for a long time now and I am not doing one for an even longer time.

Well, OK, I do appreciate the advice. But I'd like to know - for characters OTHER than clerics, shamen, enchanters and warriers - what's your average wait time for getting a group? I was in WoS Saturday night and there were 43 people there, but no response to an /ooc lfg from a 70 rogue. After about 30 minutes, I logged off and read a book. I've played this avatar since 1999 and have always had difficulty getting groups (other than when Highpass was crowded due to the monster missions). It seems to me that DPS are a dime a dozen in EQ, whereas a group pretty much always wants a tank, a healer, a slower and a mezer. And yes, I did check my guild: there were three people on (including myself) and the range of levels excluded grouping. (What my guild wants to do is go to Time at 1:00 am for a three hour raid - not something that I'm interested in at that hour.) I know I sound like I'm griping here. But am I the only person in the game having this problem? And one more complaint, since I'm sounding like a grump anyway. What's with the new missions that make you run from South Ro to Arcstone and so on? - if I wanted to run around delivering messages from one person to the next I'd get a paying job with Fed X.

Sounds to me as if you need to find another guild or, better yet, another game.

I agree with dismus. The attractiveness of the MM was that it was easy to get a group in one, good xp, and good loot. The main reason that it was easy to get a group was due to the wide spectrum of available players. You had all lvls that could group with you because level didnt matter. Also, their was no wait time for that conviction or that KEI that took 1 hour to get because buffs didn't matter.

Now that MMs are nerfed, gonna go back to DoN and get me some crystals.

Thanks. Those options (quiting EQ, joining another game) have occurred to me. But I've got time invested in EQ and don't want to leave yet. What I want is to waste less time online looking for groups. What I was hoping was that I might get some helpful suggestions from players on this forum. (Was I wrong about that? Am I the only player who has ever faced this problem?)

As for the guild, I've got friends there, some of whom I know personally. I could leave and join another, but I'd prefer to find other solutions, assuming there are any.

Which MMs have been nerfed? The fairy one in Nek and the HHK one are the only ones I know of. You all act like the HHK rescue mission was the only MM in the game. In reality that was the easiest MM but also the least fun MM Ive done. Keep in mind there are the original MMs, DoD MMs and now PoR MMs.

The new PoR MMs are fun, fresh and lots of people are doing them. I keep seeing "EJ MM group seeks more", "Thurgadin MM seeks more" being spammed in the general all the time. And Im sure there are more that havent been discovered yet.

For those that like MMs, there is plenty to do and every one that Ive done so far was a heck of alot more fun than that boring, easy HHK one and theres good loot to be had in all of them.

/waves bye to LF MM NT - good riddance

I have been hitting Arcstone and Relic alot and the above concern (MM 70's) really arent a concern. If I see tons of corpses in an area I head to the opposite end of the zone! Smiley: lol

The relic Missions are cool! Im having a blast trying to figure them out.

Oh, i thought it was all of em. My favorite one is the Stonebrunt one. Trying for the mask reward, lots of fun.

I here what you are saying on your friends in your guild. Possibly a solution is for all of you to leave and go to a guild with a higher population of like minded people. It will be easier to get a group if you have a guild with a larger population of people who HELP each other out. People who repeatedly do the same MM over and over to just level are really missing out on the adventuring and fun that is EQ.

.... actually almost every dodh mm has been nerfed. The warewolf mission, the pirate mission, the griffon mission, the faery mission, the goblin mission, the orc mission etc etc etc. IN some cases like the warewolf mission the changes have completely ruined the content.

Then again SOE doesnt care they got you to buy the expansion then nerf it so you will but the next one. IN a few weeks they will begin the nerfing of certain parts of PORO and right befor the release of the next expansion they will make sure that poro content is useless also so you will buy the next one. Odds are of course that they still wont have fixed things like the UI problems. The money is in selling not fixing.

Depends what you wanna do but I started taking my level 65 shad on a tour of the old content - places I've never been, just having a great time visiting even the lowest of places. I got to 61 the hard way and then used MM's to get myself up to 65 - now instead of the grind I tour the world of EQ.

At least that way I can get to know a few of the areas before bringing my alts there and also run into a few big mobs too. Often these places are deserted but are great for just exploring and the odd nice bit of loot too.

Failing that I've started doing quests such as the Greenmist one - no real exp but lets face it I got 4 levels for nothing doing MM's (I take pride in the first 61 levels as I soloed an awful lot - took me nearly 18 months to reach 60 and about 5 days to 65 lol - but no pride in level 62-65 they were just a means to an end) so I'm not moaning about a bit of non-exp work trying to achieve something a little different.

Oh and btw if you fancy a giggle try City of Heroes / Villians. What a great laugh that is, not as refined as EQ but less stuffy and a real sense of being a hero. WOW was okay as well but only CoV has pulled me away from EQ (which I have played for over 2 years now).

I'm loving the fact that people are willing to LDon again! As for the MMers that don't know their class, I'm not worried about it. I know the peeps i grp with mostly. I'm not afraid to solo or to find some quest to do. Because I like to avoid the "Hot spots", i've been to places most haven't and have missed places everyone knows. I'm learning those.

It seems like it wasn't just a balance to fix a problem, the risk/reward slider got shover much too far. I tried the Werewolf mission the other night and it's essentially impossible. The second boss's guards repop like crazy, you run in and there are 4, then 30 seconds later, 4 more, then 30 seconds later, 4 more. And they take about 1 min to kill each.

I do miss the ease of finding groups and the ease in getting some solid exp in 30-50 minutes. That was really nice for casual players like myself.

SOE just moved the game back to the hardcore player who has time to spend LFG and then tiem to travel and finally the exp grind.

I've spent 2 hours in MPG today alone and gotten 2.5 blue bubbles of level exp, which would have been about 35 minutes with the HHK MM. I just can't stand the thought of doing that mission again. I'll try some of these new missions, they might be really fun.

Same for the Griffon, regardless of the exp nerf the encounter is a stupid mess now.

I think most people are working on the PoR missions now.

"But I've got time invested in EQ and don't want to leave yet."

Sunk Cost Fallacy.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sunk_costs

I'm not saying it's wrong to stick with EQ, but if you are sticking based soley on time "invested" (how do you invest time in a game anyway? There's no rate of return) you are doing it for the wrong reason.

I would think that part of the problem might be that a 70 rogue might be too much dps for the tank in your average WoS group to hold aggro consistently. I also have a 70 rogue and have no huge problems finding grps, soemtimes it takes longer than others, but there are tactics to gettign one.

If you desire to group in "Whatever Zone" do not /ooc, go to each camp and send tells directly to people in the group there, this is a tactic a rogue can do very easily, some people have /ooc and shout put in hard to notice chat boxes, but a tell box that pops up will catch their attention.

Use the /lfg utility in addition to the above and put something in the comment, it makes you stand out.

Write down the names of non guildmates who you enjoyed grping with in your friends list, you will soon find it is limited to 100 =) Use this list when LFG to find people in grps in zones you would not mind gaining exp in. They may be full at the time you say hello and ask if they have room, but something may open up soon and you will be their first thought.

Start your own group, find an empty camp, for a rogue like you, getting to 6 way in mpg should not be too hard, and the exp in mpg and 6 way in particualr is a nice draw for potential players.

i was thinking along the same lines as Dismus, only i'm thinking of returning.

i miss the character progression, upgrades and the adventures (mostly ldon) grinding was boring but necessary.

but my biggest concern is the long wait for lfg. you can only work on your tradeskills so much.

My advice would be to do a combination of all the things listed here.

1.) Turn on LFG and use the comment line to stand out.

2.) Go re-explore old world content. Go to Sebilis and work your way to the bottom. If you get a tell for a group just use a gate potion to get back to pok or wherever.

3.) If you don't want to explore, go find a spot you can solo. I know this might be tough for some classes, but if you can't solo dark blues, head for some low light blue mobs and stock up on potions. Any xp you gain is more than you would get sitting in a zone just /ooc'ing lfg.

4.) Go try to hide/sneak and pickpocket your way through opposing faction cities.

5.) Pick an ultra rare mob camp to do just for the heck of it. Stormfeather comes to mind.

6.) Work on some obscure quest in which you probably won't even use the reward. Did you know you can actually do every class epic? (Can't equip it though, and it takes tons of faction work.)

My biggest problem with EQ, other than not getting groups (59 Ranger) is that there is too much to do! I have a list a mile long of what I want to do but can never seem to find time for.

I agree that finding groups sucks. And I'm like you, I don't like putting together my own groups. I want to be able to join up, kill stuff, and leave. Not everyone is a leader. I have to be a leader in real life, I want my online life to be an escape from the real world. When Im a group leader I always feel pressured to keep everyone happy and hold the group together as long as possible.

I know others have said it, but maybe try a different game for a month. You'll be amazed what a month away from EQ does for you. It really makes you appreciate what you have in EQ. And you don't have to go buy games, there are lots out there that have free demos. There are a bunch of First Person Shooter games that are completely free to play online (Battlefield 2 and Delta Force Extreme come to mind)

What ever you do, have fun. If its not fun, then it's work, and who wants to pay for work?!?!
