Experience on failureFollow

Noticed something odd:

Last Saturday afternoon, friends of mine tried the brownie monster mission. I know that this was the only thing they did that afternoon, and I know that they failed (killed the brownies, but couldn't kill Equestrielle).

I had a look at their EQ players profile before and afterwards, and each of them got between 7% and 13% of a level.

Has anyone else noticed experience on failure of monster missions?

Edit: Levels were
49 Gnome Warrior (+7%)
47 Iksar Necro (+12%)
48 Dwarf Cleric (+13%)
46 Human Druid (+9%)
