For anyone who didn't log on right when the servers came back up, behind the main bank in pok around 20 or more vendors with the tag ("temp vendor") were lined up selling a vast amount of tradeskill items, stat foods, and other amazing things. GMs despawned the vendors after about an hour. There were also 2 new alchemy vendors in the potion room in pok. Those were despawned when the zone was popped about an hour later.

Although I think it was a terrible glitch or perhaps a joke by a sneaky programmer, why on earth would SOE do something like this or allow something like this to happen? How could something like this be done unintentionally?

Whatever the case, I got myself a few artisan's seals, a couple gnashed magnetic bps, very decent stat food, and a grandmaster's tailor needle. What kind of goodies did some of you find?

Commonly in a beta (in GoD and DoN at least) they will place these vendors up to test the new tradeskill recipies without requiring tons of tester time farming.

I'd guess that it was some beta code that snuck its way into the promotion for the patch (since PoK did get updated).

Figures.....they never do stuff like that during evening hours

The text for the lazy :

This morning we had an error with the update that resulted in merchants, and subsequent items, in the Plane of Knowledge that should not have been appearing in the world. In order to address this we will be performing selective and aggressive rollbacks of certain characters throughout the day. There will be multiple phases and some characters may be subject to multiple adjustments. If you believe that you have been involved in any way (even indirectly) then please consider holding off your playtime until tomorrow. We apologize for the inconvenience and we are resolving this in the most complete way possible while minimizing the impact on the majority of the customers.

And for those that took advantage of this you can cheer all you want because SOE put out a MTOD stating they are going to look for and roleback selected characters that might have taken advantage of something they should not have.

But like you said NICE SOE!!!

Just a few people maybe 5% of the population Rollbacks are causeing all sorts of **** n moanings. But considering the exploits that were taken advantage of, let alone the AAs aquired via exploit I can't blame them.

the problem some are having is that we didn't purchase from the temp traders, but apparently items from normal vendors that were tainted (hey, anytime i find a blue diamond on a vendor i buy it). so in the mass jump to fix it, they are catching those who did not take advantage of anything. i found 3 bd on a merchant in shadowhaven. now my shared bank is poof and the exp i gained happily oblivious is gone. i wasn't in pok when all that mess was going on. /petition they say. yah right, like the gm is really going to replace the cash & items cleared out of my shared slots (xferred bd to shared to put on trader). i could care less about the bd, but it isn't easy for someone who does not have a ton of time to farm back almost 200k. all b/c soe *smurfed* up.

There was no AA vendor. That was just a rumour and that rumour was shot down by the devs.

Im pretty pissed. SoE should just rolled back everyone that was online right away. But someone at SoE forgot to make a backup before patch so it was not possible. Then devs said there was not going to be a rollback, that rollback was not an option.
When I read that post I decided to finally start playing cause I didnt have to worry about rollback.
So I went out and did Ikkinz3 for BiC and got my BiC drop. Then we went and killed primals. Tank got AC aug and healer got Mana aug, bard got the bic pages.... NOW we find out that soe backs down from previous statement and they will actualy do rollback.

FOOK YOU SOE!

We killed all that for nothing.. We will now loose it all just because I bought 4 stacks of food and then gave some of it to the rest of the group........
Yeah I knew right away it was a bug and I took advantage of it but when SoE stated there wouldnt be a rollback they shouldnt back down from that statement.

Bumbi, lay off the coffee:

"In order to address this we will be performing selective and aggressive rollbacks of certain characters throughout the day."

Now what part of this message leads to you believe you stand to lose anything?

SONY is in this for money, they are not going to alienate every EQ player who were online after the patch, only those that took advantage of an obvious bug/exploit. People who DO abuse bugs for their own advantage know they have it coming, the rest of us can just lean back and watch them squirm :-)

You cheated. You took a risk and now you're paying for it. Suck it up.

I understand nailing the ones who did indeed relise it was an exploit. I apparently bought a tainted item from an NPC vendor and I still got punished. OK fine I will eat the tainted item. But when the "rollback" was done, somewhere in the mix I lost more than just the item I had purchased in SH from an NPC vendor as well as everything in my shared bank to include pp. 58k may not be alot to some of you who can farm plat like nothing, but for us "casual" players that is alot. That is what I am mad about. Not the cheaters getting fixed, but the ones who were hit in the process who were clueless. Yah, I am a bit niave whe it comes to alot of stuff, but this is straight up wrong. I didn't go to pok and buy everything in sight. I was vendor slumming after a patch in an entirely different zone. I did the /petition and got a canned "oh well suck it up" comment. If I were guilty like some of those other folks (I heard you could get crushed diamond dust and metallic drake scales) fine, then punishment should be executed. I hate the fact that I have to be punished as an innocent bystander. The tradeskillers want to complain about their time (I am over 250 in all skills tyvm), what about the time I invested in gaining that amount of pp? Where are the reprocussions for MY time loss? NONEXISTENT because it is not in SOE favor to right their wrong.

edit: spelling.

It does suck that you lost a bunch of plat and your items, however, you must also look at it from SoE's standpoint.

How many /petitions do you think they got similiar to "I didn't know it was wrong."

Which ones should they believe? Since it's easy enough to lie in a petition, the solution is either none or all. Of course there are the statiscal outliers that are OBVIOUSLY guilty of purchasing items.

SoE was in the wrong in the fact they did not do the rollback the moment they reaized the erroneous vendors where in PoK. They should've de-popped the vendors and took the servers down.

Doing the rollback that far after the fact, is just somewhat harsh. I can understand the reason why they did it though.

The reason they are doing it for anyone with tainted items is there is NO WAY that SOE can know whether you obtained the item out of ignorance or greed, other than your word.

Just because you purchased it of a vendor, does not mean that you didn't request that someone sell the item to the vendor first to hide the trail. I'm not saying that's what you did, but it could happen. That is the reason for the blanket rollbacks.

The only think I can suggest is to keep sending /petitions.

Sometimes it takes a few to get an acceptable answer, but with politeness and perserverance, you might just get what you are looking for.
#22 Jan 19 2006 at 2:05 PM Rating: Decent
Just a thought... do you suppose they will "selectively" rollback the players in the picture that was posted on this thread? What an ***! Sucks to be them.
I did not get on till about 10pm last night, but I would have taken advantage with a low level alt had I been given the opportunity. It, of course, would have been absolutely wrong, but temptation is hard to resist to the poor lvl 2 enchanter wearing cloth armor, and holding a sharpened dagger:)

But if someone didn't cheat to obtain the item it would have never been on that merchant in the first place. Vendor hopping after a patch is the worst time to do it. The vendors are reset are only have their own wares on them.

You logged on and should have known something was up just from /ooc chat etc. Maybe you still didn't and unknowingly bought a tainted item. You still have to suck it up. It is just a game. I've seen someone banned wrongfully so it could be worse. Just petitioning to have SOE replace anything you had before the patch.

I fail to see how a rollback would remove anything from your charicter that was there before the point the rollback took you back to.

So petition for your Shared bank to be restored to it's original state.

i did petition for that - they basically said get over it. so i will continue until i get my stuff back or they get annoyed whichever comes first.

Save yourself some pain. Forget in game GMs and /petitions.

Example: http://www.necrotalk.com/index.php?showtopic=5431

They are all auto answered by AI or Off Shore GMs. It's fine for "I am stuck in wall, move to Nexus" *Indian GM checks Index Card, finds "stuck" and policy says "move them" and he does it. Anything else = "no, sorry".

Always use:
