Ok that was a pretty dumb post, but I was pissed.

Therac put my point much more concisely, it would be nice to put a notice in game that servers are coming down a few hours in advance. Sony does this sometimes, but not for this patch.

I did find where to check for server downtime on the eqlive website under updates. Yeah I should have checked before I started my mission and will definitely be checking this more in the future.

What a stupid idiotic thing to do! Here I am home sick, in pain, not able to sleep inthe same bed as Elne Clare, and this emergency patch ruins your mission. You should quit.
Can I have your gear?
Sorry, I can understand your frustration, but I just started a toon on your server. Really I did honest

Ya this pisses me off too when I am too lazy to check for scheduled patches. Be nice if the would put it in the message of the day, but at least the servers didn't shut down with the final mob at 20%

Don't tell me what lies ahead for my experience negative Nancy. We have known there was going to be a patch today for quite some time now. Further more, it IS just a game, if it causes you that much frustation, then you really need to rethink your reason for playing.

If you don't like the game anymore you should quit.

Wow, how old are you to say "Waaa the game shut off and I didn't finish my mission! IM GONNA QUIT!" Sounds like a kid trying to learn a new sport or something. I for one don't care if you leave beacuse I don't want to run in to whiny people like you in the game.

Your first post in the forums to whine about someone else whining..........wow

As far as the OP:

1. It was a scheduled update and even if you didn't check the SOE boards to find out about it you should have known it was coming. Did you expect the new years mission to be around forever?

2. It's a game. I am not trying to be an a[sm][/sm]ss but if a game is causing you that much stress you really need to get your priorities straight.

3. If your high enough lvl to be doing spell missions and you play at that time of day/night, (depending on where you are) you should know by now that almost all updates/patches come between 3A.M. and 5A.M. PST

4. The only thing I agree with you on is that they should have given more than 13 minutes notice. That is assuming you didn't miss an earlier warning. I wasn't logged in at the time so I can't verify whether or not that was the only warning but when I logged around 10P.M. CST people were talking about it.

I bet you got xp atleast!
**** happens, ingame and irl. You just have to live with it.
I agree tho they should have given a better notice ingame, tho its been common knowledge for a week or so that the new patch was inc today.

If this is the worst thing that happened to you ingame I dont know what you been doing? Mby bought char? Far worse stuff has happened to me several times long before I dinged 70 and if you didnt buy your char then the same most likly goes for you, and if it does, why didnt you quit then?
Sounds like your looking for an excuse to quit.

Not flaming, I can understand the frustration, however, if you are truely that unhappy with SoE and EQ, then leave. No use playing a game that isn't fun to you.

In comparison, I've found EQ's stability HUGELY improved over what it was in the past. In the past month there has not been a single server crash (when I'm on), nor has there really been many issues with them in general. This is the first time they've been down over the past month (for me at least YMMV).

Blizzard (the makers of WoW), have had very very crappy service since the holidays. Not only are they down every Tuesday morning (scheduled maintence), but there has been log in server issues, queues to log in to your game server, many many random disconnects (too many to attribute to a certain internet thing), horrible server side lag (trade, auction house, mail system, etc), and seemingly daily full server crashes.

Overall, yep, it stinks that you missed out on completing the mission, but the servers here are a ton more stable than other places.

Infact people, including me, have been reporting an increase in zones crashing, chatservers going down etc the past month.
No full servercrash tho that Im aware of.

There are a few VERY annoying buggs since last patch that needs to be fixed asap. I cant understand why its been almost a month since last patch when there are such huge issues effecting so many. (AMV LD bug anyone?)

Yes, the OP could have checked the schedule. Yes, the post sounded whiny....

BUT, let's not let Sony off too lightly. How hard would it be to have a reminder in game of downtime with some lead time? Is that too much to ask? Is it necessary, no. Would it be a nice customer friendly thing to do, yes.

I'm guessing he missed the other warning messages. I've zoned and missed them before. I've always seen SOE give at least an hour warning before scheduled patches. I'm guessing he just missed the message in spam or zoning from deaths, traveling or whatever.

If SOE didn't let anyone know the servers were coming down there would be more people posting about it. Apparently it looks like one person. So calm down it could be you and not SOE.

there was no in game warrning till 14 min.

we had been doing belfast 4. and we were extreamly pissed, however, it is our own fault, it WAS posted.

and even here on these forums a day or two ago someone made a thread about a patch for this night, they were worried about the "fix/nerf" to the MM. so i was only pissed for a few min, after that i realised it was my fault.

it would be nice tho to do as someone above posted, just add the intent to the daily message so you would see as you logged in.

grrrrr we were two hours into that damn dask lol.

i was there lol

it was 14 min, shut down iminent (sp)

but yeah, sometimes they give up to 2 hours warning, then the last hour every 15 min. seems whatever they feel like doing.

edit:

FYI this post gave everyone reading these forums a heads up to the patch, i as well ignored it, as it was a MM OMG going to nerf it thread. i sure hope they fix it. what a sad set of lvl 70's in the game right now, the lfg tool is russian roulet, get lvl 70's that get one rounded in DOD. oh well.

On some DoDs a casual player who earned their way to 70 can still get one rounded.
