First off, im new to the Allakhazam community...the boards etc. Yay!

Anyway, started EQ like right after Kunark. Main was a Barbarian Warrior, got biggest thrills out of exploring and doing quests. Loved grouping, EQ's social aspect is just....amazing. Anyway, times changed, and here I was, lvl 57 while one of the best guilds on my server, (Talisman), was breaking through the GoD zones. I couldnt play insane hours, and was in a family-guild (more for chatting, less for raiding). Sucked, I could barely solo a dark blue, as I would solo it, and be forced to bum heals off someone, or risk regening for like 3 hours lol. I was a crappy-equipped warrior who knew how to play his class. Left EQ at lvl 57 with like 5 years under my belt to join the EQII craze.

EQII wasnt bad....but held almost no grouping aspect imo. Soloing was way too easy. However, it was all eye candy. I missed the raids. Quit that after a few months after the economy went out the window like EQ. People selling items for hundreds of plat when the first person to get a platinum piece got it like a week ago lol.

Went to City of Heroes, then City of Villains, but lost my favorite appeal to Everquest- the huge raiding and social events. I made friends from all over the world, mostly adults, and hell im only 16 (not your immature brat who will ninja loot, whine, complain, train raids, curse out people, degrade etc.). Finally came back to EQ. Created a Dark Elf Magician in hopes of leveling fast and getting back into the raiding craze asap. Ironically, the Level-Express Elevator (MMs) just arrived. Started EQ on Dec. 25th 2005, and by now, Jan 17 2006, I am level 55. Now i've been bashed via "ooc" bout how I cant play my class. Heh..its funny because I know how to play a Magician just as well as any other 55.

Anyway, what is the best spot for a 55 Magician, who prefers grouping over soloing any day, to level? MMs, although fun on the whole, is a real boring way to play EQ. Having fun for 25 minutes, then sitting afk for another 25 while timer goes down (and refreshing invis because those damn HHK guards take forever to raise faction with lol). I want to play the class I chose! Also, what quests and/or mobs should I look for for decent +Mana Regen and Int+ 10 (or more) gear?

Thanks in advance!

You're getting bashed not because you don't posses the knowledge to play your class, but because you can't play a toon raised soley on MM's in regular EQ. The reason for this is your skills (or more notably lack thereof).

When you level a toon normally, you raise your casting, offense, defense, etc. skills with each level because your actively using your character. When you level a character using MM's, you gain no skills. If you try to jump into a PoV group you'll be worse than useless, you might just wipe your group. That's why you're catching so much flack.

I am aware of the fact that skills can be raised through alternate means, such as dueling someone's pet or chain-casting in the guild hall pool. However, it's a poor substitute to raising skills the old-fashioned way. There's also all the little nuances that a 55 mage is expected to know which you might be behind the power-curve on (having played only a warrior).

I love MM's, because I only use them to get AA's. Using them to power-level yourself to 55 in 24 days is setting yourself up for failure IMHO.

Edit: Since the damage is already done, head to Noble's Causeway off Dranik's Scar. Get a necro to kite mobs in the canyon and you'll hit 62 in no time.

Dont mind the people saying u cant play your class because you leveled to fast. Its just pure b/s. My brother got lvl 70 in less then a week w/o MMs or PL. Just some heavy twinking. He was very fast one of the best rogues in our guild.

Put up /lfg tag and while you lfg try raise your skills by casting spells in pok, or /duel a petclass for melee / defensive skillups. Also, try soloing, while soloing might be dull it will raise your skills and help you understand your class even better.

Good luck, have fun and welcome back!

You can't play a class if you leveled too fast.

Especially by doing nothing else than monster missions.

That's no b/s, that's a fact. Stop levelling, and learn playing the hard way.

Nevertheless, welcome back! Smiley: smile

Lol thats just wrong. This game is not much about skill at all and learning a class dont take long. Got basic knowledge of eq and you can learn ANY class in less then a week and be as good as anyone else if you read up on things and find out facts. This game is 90% paying attention, not skills.
Dont get me wrong, I love the game. But if I want a skillbased game I would still play Unreal Tournament (where I was nationsteam captain! /brag)
Ofcourse there are thoose who plays for years but still suck, but thats just a lack of brain, lack of will to learn etc.
As long as you keep your skills maxed then there is nothing wrong with leveling 0-70 in a week. Anyone else is just saying diffrent cause of pride or sum.
However, by leveling fast you might miss out on alot of fun, tho at lvl 70 it will most likly be more fun cause it will be easier to find groups.

As I said before, my brother leveled to 70 in a week and when he dinged 70 he switched mains in our guild. From the start he outdamaged several of our old rogues that had more AAs, better weapons and better gear and years of experience. This was his first rogue ever. He just took the time to read up on stuff and talked to the rogues he knew was good to get pointers.
Yesterday he broke 1400 DPS and he havent even got his epic 2.0 yet as some others of our rogues. Yet he is still most often no.1 dmg dealer on most targets.

Outdamage others that have better weapons and better gear? How exactly is he outdamaging them?

Their is nothing wrong with leveling fast. I took my bst from 1 to 50 in about a week and that was about 90% solo. The best way to learn your class is solo because it is the HARD WAY.

Leveling through MMs is another story. In a MM your not learning your class or getting your much needed skillups which IS a problem.

By working harder on positioning, not slacking pushing backstab ever time it pops, making sure he had all correct buffs etc etc.

I am not here to judge if you leveled too quick or not. I will let the debate rage around me. But if your needing some skills upgrades as a caster, get a kei (now that your over 46) and park yourself in the bathtub of the guild hall. Recast low level spells from each of the spell types (evocation, divination, etc). They will give you the skill ups you need so you wont have a high fizzle rate in group. This worked well for my ranger that kept constantly fizzing his near worthless dots.

Best of Luck, and WB!

Sorry but I call bullsh*t on level 70 in a week with no PL'ing or MM. Absolute BS
#11 Jan 18 2006 at 9:36 AM Rating: Good
The question is, is a calendar week, or a week /played.

If it's a week /played, I can see that. If it's a calendar week, your brother would've had to spend every waking hour at the PC, and probably only slept about 4 hours per night.

Not only that, but Bumbi's brother, if it is indeed true, is one of the exceptions. In general, one can say, that a power leveled toon, or one that level through MM's will not be as skilled of a player as one that went through the grind the normal way.

I know some of you will try to argue that, but honestly, can you? Generally speaking that is.

Close, Im guessing 5hours avg. Both him and me have a sleeping disorder so we dont sleep much. And I have to admit there was some PL but not much and only by getting highlvl buffs etc (noone was with him to heal him, tank for him or dps for him).
Mostly it was heavy twinkage until around 65 when he started grouping with guildies grinding in PoFire.

For the general populus no you can't argue it. A PL'd or MM lvl'd toon sticks out like a sore thumb.

I was going to call BS also but that explaines it. The 65 - 70 lvls are pure hell but from what I hear fire is better XP then RSS and I know how nice RSS is.
#14 Jan 18 2006 at 9:56 AM Rating: Decent
XP per mob in RSS is better then PoFire C2 but the mobs in PoFire dies so fast. And there is close to zero downtime in PoFire. It gets boring very fast tho, no danger involved.

If you are new to the game why would you want to lvl to 70 so quickly??Your missing the whole game not to mention some of the cool low lvl zones. Also I think they should limit the lvl of the toturial to lvl 5 then maybe the low lvl zones would be alive again.Went to CB with my 11 lvl wizz last night and not one person in the zone.

Just my 2cents!! (If anyone cares!!..lol)
#17 Jan 18 2006 at 10:34 AM Rating: Decent
The reason you want to level fast is that this is a group oriented game. And there are few low level toons, so if you level fast you get the chance to play the game the way it is the most fun. In a group.
I would love for a steady stream of "newbies" to come into the game so there was easy to get groups at any level, but thats just not the case. :(

My 2cp.

Being able to outdamage better geared/AA'd rogues with l33t tips like "stay behind the mob" and "press backstab" says more about how much your guild's other rogues suck than it does about how much your brother rocks Smiley: laugh

My Smiley: twocents ...

Personally, I enjoy solo play, but if you're trying for grouping, you have more choices when you are higher level so progressing quickly has a draw. But the lack of skills, especially a fizzling caster, will get you booted out of a group damn fast! My advice to OP, get your toons spells up in your guildhall hot-tub via the above mentioned methods, then get back out there and prove to your detractors you're an asset, or better yet get another group and let the naysayers suck salt. This is a game, play it to have fun, and find folks who have fun the way you do, and everything will work out... of course if you decide to dump your toon, give me a yell so I can pick over your corpse...

A fizzling caster is the least of their worries.

Ever seen a caster get agro and run around like a chicken with it's head cut off? How bout an SK tank that could only hold agro when the Zerker tried to steal it? (The zerker would get agro unless he switched to his higher agro weapons and purposely tried to take it). A SK tank who FD-ed on incomming if he got agro. A druid evac the group while the group was fighting at the evac point. A bard who can drag corpses but can't seem to drop them when asked several times to while he ran around the zone dragging the corpse at bard speed. A cleric who /q's out when things get a little rough when if they would have stayed it would have been fine. A Knight who on a single add decides to make a run for it, on his AA horse. Of course he had to agro 20 other mobs in the zone. Oh there's so much more. And all this kind of stuff should have been learned before they reached 70. But alas we are not so lucky. Pickup groups have gone terribly worse in player skills.

First off, thanks for the warm welcome :D

My only character wasnt a warrior, I had a magician i raised to 38(?). Im 65 now (did last few levels in the Planes), working on 66/AA (66 stopping for AAs, get Bolt of Jerikor etc). I know *exactly* where you guys are coming from where an MM noob sticks out. Might I stick out different from a grinded toon? Probably lol. But i've participated in many early tier PoP raids, various MPG groups and attempted to solo WoS (didnt work out so well, those mobs hit fast and hard), and held my own. I guess its more of the idea that someone just spams their ONLY skill (follow the other 4 warriors, wizards first, then do suicide run at end), rather than learns the class they actually chose. I refuse to do MMs now, even for AAs. Got sick of those lol.

In concerns to the fizzling, I ONLY found myself fizzling on my self Resist Buff and the occasional Valiant Companion. I dont recall fizzling much at all, maybe a new spell, but its quite rare. Ive never even heard that you could get skillups in duels....heh, back in the day, before they changed it, you could attack the soulbinder and get skills capped within the hour lol.

And to Fiplin-nahhh im not new to this! Only thing im new to is high Tier PoP, the deep GoD zones, and OoW. DoN i've seen most already, played my brother's paladin on quite a few raids *snicker*. DoDH still being explored, so i'll have to get back to you on that :D
