to come back or not toFollow

Ive been away from everquest for about 2 years now and am thinking about comming back, I just have a few questions. Is Everquest worth comming back to? Are there still as many people as there were? Im not wanting to go to EQ2 but is it still worth paying the cash for a new subscription?

... yes. About 6 mos to a year before the release of WoW EQ really started adding some quality features. Potions, guild halls, corpse summoners, better transportation system since you left etc etc. HOWEVER! all of eq's new content is very much geared for the raiding population. Most of the remaining active players are in raid guilds. If you are not interested in raiding it might be better to look in another direction.

... No not even close. However with the server mergers most servers have a solid population and not really a concern.

..... EQ 2 IMO was a total waste of time. Some nice ideas but very little follow-through. Typical SOE. However SOE offers a "station pass" that allows you to play both on one subscription. Its abit more expensive but might be perfect for you.

Good Luck!

You can still come back if you aren't interested in raiding... there are plenty of casual and family guilds, and they have revamped some newbie stuff too, the tutorial is great.

Umm.... no?

DoN instances? Tradable crystals? Monster Missions with very nice loot and xp for zero risk?

There's a lot of raid content out there but there was a lot of casual content added as well. I'd also disagree with your idea that everyone is in a raiding guild. Personally, almost everyone I know in game is a casual player. Probably because... I'm in a casual guild Smiley: grin I'm sure if you're in a raiding guild, you mainly just see the raiding players, but there's a lot of us 'working class' players out there as well.

Just expect to solo from lvl 25 to 60+ as it is nearly impossible on many servers to get a group in that level range. Almost every time I have had my alts on-line I will do a who all 25 30 and find a total of 5 people and usualyl 3 of them are bazaar merchants. You just can't get anything going anymore at lower levels.

I strongly recommend against it unless you allready have a high level toon.

No, you will be able to get a group on Tunare... especially if you find 1 or 2 other necros (if that is the class you are choosing) and be friends with them... it is an awesome group, I got plenty of groups when leveling my necromancer up to 50 (and they are usually hard to find a group for) and if you come to Tunare we can be friends =)

Again, totally false information from Froglo, i am begining to wonder if you hate EQ.

Servers are full, or at least the majority are.

getting a group at low level is no where near as hard as it was 12 months ago, sure you might have to stick to the Xp superhighway untill you have a few people on your friends list but i have no problems with my 20-35 alts at all.

Casual players have never had it so good, non no drop loot drops make it possible for casual players to hunt all bar the very very top end zones and if they are a casual player they wouldn't be bothered about those anyway.

Froglo is the ultimate doom and gloom merchant and presents a wholely inaccurate picture of the way the game plays.

ok, so decided im gonna go for it then, reloaded EQ in my puter gonna wait for all the patching to finish up here, then, hmmmm.....any suggestions on what server i should go for? i think im gonna go necro this time around just in case i have a hard time in the beginning can solo, and am going to definatly be on the causal player roster. Dong know what my account looks like at his point as i said i havnt played in about 2 years had a 65 chanter im guessing shes not there anymore and if she is shes gonna be stripped and useless, dont guess i can still make a little pp buffing in pok?

Yeah, what Jophiel said. :)

Casual players have access to gear that would make hard core raiders of yesteryear drool. And lots of fun to be had in getting it in DoN, MM, etc.

You have never had to be a raider to have fun.

It all depends on what you want Ember, if you check www.eqplayers.com you might find some of your old mates and join then. YOu can also make a easy char and if you ahve access to the guildlobby (DON exp) check out guild recruitment boards and see whats going.

There are many raiding guild, but also a lot of family - fun guild. Check your PM's i send you one with our guild details, and you more then welcome to check us out.

Furthermore, Sony has not deleted any chars so unless you stripped your chanter she should be just as you left her.

Let us know how you getting on and how you enjoying it. One post in forum says about someone who leftfor EQ2, came back and is having the time of his/her life, hope you feel the same

I am only telling it as it is. Yes if you are big buddies with a bunch of people then maybe you can get from 25 to 60 easy enough, but trying to get pick up groups on fennin ro for me is/was about impossible. I mean when you do a who all 25 30 and you find NOBODY you can't tell me its easy to ge a group. I also tried the newbie server (mordin rasp I think) and ran into the exact same problem. I can about any time of the day run into lvl 25 to 30 zones and 9 times out of 10 find them pretty much empty.

Perhaps other servers are different, but please don't call me a liar when I only speak the truth. You can not run into a newbie zone at 25+ and expect to walk right into a pick up group. Its like once you green out PC people your level vanish. Almost all newbie zones 25+ are vacant. That is all I am stateing, and I thought.

Sure I will admit I am pretty unhappy with the game right now, in fact I am probably going to quit when my time runs up. However once again I am only stateing what I feel is true. And my 4 level 27 to 42 toons on my account feel the same way when they try LFG and find NOBODY in there level range.

Afraid draco's pretty accurate here. Even the examples you cited as counter evidence requires a group. Solo'ing, which I valued most in EQ, is.. well.. let's just not get me depressed here.

Most of the content does seem to be raid now. This isn't to say it all is.. but most is at least a large group. Perhaps its for the best? I don't think so, but I guess a good number must. I just miss charm kitting with my Druid. They even changed PoStorms MOBs to cast Druid spells, such as Root and Ensnare, and added even more summon creatures into it.. just to ensure solo charming is dead. Damn 'em.

PS to Jophiel: My Conservative Conspiracy will pwnzers your Liberal Conspiracy.. we have guns! ;)

Its a very common question.. hell, most of us probably think it after logging off each night, wondering if we should go back to it the next day.

All I can really offer is.. think about what you want from it. Everquest is NOT entertaining. It is, however, quite an escape from reality.. which I believe what most regulars go for. It may seem like an atrocity against your being, but EQ is basically a way to burn part of your life away; still, TV and drying paint are more or less the exact same thing.. 'cept the paint's the only pretty one in the end.

Existentialist cristism aside, I enjoy it enough to come back. Or am I addicted enough? Either way, does it really matter? Enjoy!

Utter rubbish, i did check just before writing this and at 6am GMT on a GMT server there where 20+ active players lvl 20-30 on AB (by active i mean in XP zones not PoK and bazzar).

there where equally large enough populations of 30-40 and 40-50 to make grouping easy if you are willing to travel.

You're telling me that Echo Caverns, DSP, OT and DL are empty?? pure fantasy.

try looking on the XP superhighway and not in East Karana.

stop sitting on your **** in PoK and go looking in the zones i stated then and try realising that people are not going to come to YOU for groups.

now take your lazy bitter postering elsewhere or go and try WoW i'm sure the ease of leveling would suit you lack of effort.

I'm sure SoE would be willing to let one person go, god knows the population seems to be growing steadily again, despite your efforts to stop it.

I can honestly state that on Tunare the level 20-50 grouping is pretty good... I just logged off from grouping my level 39 Druid in a good group of four-five people and that was just in Gunthak... I don't even think that is a hot zone is it? If I would've just walked into a zone like Echo Caverns I would've got a group right away.

Further to my last post.

I did another look at 9pm GMT tonight(GMT server) and found the following.

20-30: 23 people (probably more i couldn't see lvl30 for all the MM people)
31-40: 14 people
41-50: 15 people
50-60: 57 people
61-64: 26 people
65+ too many to count at each level

This is people in active zones, not PoK or Bazaar (add at least 5-10 people in PoK per level band) add in a minimum of 25% additional population on /Role or /Anon (i say that because in my guild alone there was 7 out of 20 sub 50's in active play that where one of the two when i asked.)

I would say that getting a group at any level 20+ would not be a problem, in my experiance a direct tell to a player who is soloing will get an invite to duo with them the majority of the time.
