Tasks and other questionsFollow

I know questions like this probably get asked a lot around here but I haven't played the game in a good three years, and just have a couple specific questions (instead of the general "what has changed?"). I have tried looking around for answers but most sources are years old, dealing with EQ in its hayday. If anyone could lead me to a resource which answers my questions or could answer them directly, it would be much appreciated. Firstly, is there an abundance of tasks in the EQ world like there is in the newbie zone? Where can I find these quests/tasks and what are good zones to level (where I can actually find other people) from about level 14 and on? What servers currently have the highest populations with an abundance of lower levels (I play on Druzzil Ro but I doubt the server tops out over 800 players during primetime and finding another player to level with is a rarity)? EQ certainly is still a great game, but it seems newer MMO's have really drained it of its playerbase. I certainly hope this isn't the case and that the game still has some good years left in it.

I beileve there are several tasks in PoK.

800 total people primetime? Terris Th... errr Prexus has 100+ in PoK most nights and I have seen 100+ in several zones as 2 raid forces pass each other on the way to MPG trials etc.

If you are hanging out in the "it" zones from 3 years ago I am sure it will seem abandon.

Check FoB/Kurns/Padual Caverns. I think I have seen many people say those are some popular hang outs for low levels.

Lake of Ill Omen is a waste land and I think I only ever see 10-15 people in Over there now days.

You'll find the Tasks outside of the tutorial become progressively less fufilling. There are other quests that use the task window and the same general system (Monster missions, DoN armor book quests, etc) but the Omens task NPCs generally have you running around Norrath trying to find fifteen woodland potato bugs, hope that they drop the five eyes you need, then run to some landmark in zone XYZ, then kill another twenty diseased muskrats in another zone, then run five zones over to find a troll standing the middle of Butt F--- Egypt just so you can earn 5pp and two blues of xp. And God help you if you're not a class that solos easily.

Had you spent that time grinding, you'd be halfway through the level by now.

Was a good idea and it was the basis for some rewarding quests and goals but the original Omens of War tasks sucked.

yup from 14-24 you can stay in Paldual Caverns and you can do those 10 lv in 10-15 hrs of serious play you can then head to Gunthak or do some LDON's they are still popular in the 25-35 range. then next to Gunthak is Dulak it almost always has a few groups stay there Also Dreadlands. Echo and Neatherbain seem to have peeps but I think the exp sucks in both hope that helps at about 20 hrs a week you could be in the low 40's in about 3-4 wk without PLing. note that would leave no time to stop & smell the roses so to say.

So the general consensus is that quests are still not worthwhile? Grinding is the way to go?

Just wanted to edit: The quests I got were in the PoK from the Knowledge Guide (and speaking to the armor quest givers). They do seem to have me running all over the place but do even these beginner quests not give enough exp to balance the time taken to do them?

My beastlord did the first 7 pok armor tasks, all the tutorial tasks except escorting the slave (did not know of it at the time), several curscale armor pieces, most of the Shar Val newb quests (mmm payala juice and Ghulam armor), the claw qeust in cabilis, Journeymens armor and augment quest, and a couple of the pok fine antique quests.

When I did them most of them were fun. Rarely was there much xp from the quest but doing the Shar Val quests at the appropriate level to get xp from the mobs meant I got about 12 levels before I was sick of Shadeweavers...

At level 41 I decided to start using baz to upgrade since all but 2 slots had been quested gear or found on npc merchants to that point. Spending very little plat I hugely upgraded. I could have kept playing quested gear only, it just is a slow way to go and my friends were bugging me to at least get to the 50s.

At level 51 the only quested item I have equipeed is 2 pieces of cultural armor, the kobold charm and the claw I earned in Cabilis. I am in the early stages of the coldain shawl, coldain ring and Crown of Deceit quests. I may never finish them, but currently feel they are worth doing.

You can grind to level 70, then you are grinding only AA. Personally I like quests to keep me entertained and challenged on the way. I agree that many quests reward/effort is out of line for the level required to achieve them. It comes down to what you enjoy.
