I recently started a Ranger and had heard something about gating with a "Soulstone" or something, I do not have the last 3 expansions and was wondering if there was somewhere I could buy these or what they really are. I heard that these came out with DoN or OoW, not sure. I have always played classes that are able to gate, so this is all new to me. If someone could shed some light on this I would appreciate it. It would be nice for my Little Ranger to be able to gate without spending 300pp per potion.

The "Soulstones" that came with the DoN expansion are merely the stones that allow your corpses to be summoned to the altars in the Guild Lobby.

Aside from dieing, and getting a rez, they are not a very good form of a gate.

A common form of gate, if you don't mind to the faction work, is to the the "OT hammer". It randomly procs a gate to the dock in The Overthere. Will take faction work for your ranger, but entirely doable.

Let me know if you need help with quest info. I'll be more than happy to provide it.

Gate potions also work, but can be pricy. On Druzzil Ro, these usually go for 300 a pop. Cheaper to die and get a rez in GL quite often.

When high enough, there is always the Origin AA as well.

Ranger gate FTW!!!

It is one of the many ranger jokes.

You run up to the biggest ugliest mobs you can find and say: Hi, I'm a ranger. The mob goes to shake your hand but because your a ranger you get squished by the big ugly mob........Loading, Please wait.

Next run to the Guild Lobby, buy a soulstone, give it to the summoner and poof, their's your gear.

Rangers don't get a gate spell but their are a few options when it comes to gating. Potions or the OT hammer seem to be the most common.

There are also potions to 4 other places, a little less pricey than gate, Shadeweaver Thicket, Everfrost, Field of Bone, and Innothule Swamp. And there is always the go home button after you have been logged out 6 hours.

Here is a list of transport methods for non-gaters off the top of my head (basically ways to get out of where you are instead of running to the zone):

Gate Potion (made by alchemy)
Usually get a 10-dose form for 3K from players and sell back the last one for 190pp. Works just like gate (including unstable gate sometimes)

Vial of Swirling Smoke (NPC sold) for 1100pp or so, this is a one shot gate.

Vial of Velium Vapors (self made only) You need indifferent or better faction with an NPC in Thurgadin to get the container. You also need decent pottery skills to make. Gets you a free ride to Thurgadin and out of that nasty dungeon.

Worker Sledgemallet Quested. You need amiable or better faction with The Overthere dark elf outpost. Procs a trip to the outpost in the overthere during combat (got dex?)

Tolan's Darkwood Breastplate Dropped. RANGER ONLY. Clicky trip to Lesser Faydark.

Talisman of Return Mage Summoned plus you need a reagent (triv 15) alchemy combine that costs 110pp. Transports you to the good side of Plane of Knowledge.

Forgot those lesser gate potions that take you to a few differnt locations. Made with Alchemy.

My personal favorite for my Iksar monk is to say 'ready' to Grandmaster Glox. You are transported to a locked room where you fight a lesser version of Glox. When you defeat him, one drop is a Gate Potion to FoB (to get you out of the locked room). If you use Intimidation and fear him outside of the room however, he will summon you when the fear wears off. Kill him and you now have a get-out-of dungeon free card. You will be in the Shammy/SK guild basement (thankfully no NPCs come to Glox' aid).

Thurg gate potion is probably the best for least pp. Thurg is close to EW PoK book as well. Since the boats don't run anymore I'm not sure the OT dock would be all that helpful.

A soulstone and 100 pp for a rez would be cheaper than a gate potion, but even at 96% rez you'd be losing ground.

Save up and buy a 10 pack of gate, or have your main buy you some ( If you allow your characters to help one another, some don't). My Monk has carried a 10 dose for years and only used 1. Of course FD is pretty handy.

Only problem with Gate potions is they are 10 sec cast vs. 5 for actual spell. As a Rng you generally need insta gate ;) , so THurg gate is better, providing you're level 60 of course.

My Pali has the same problem, but since he's an alt, I usually don't have the problem of waiting the 6 hours to return home, then jog back to a PoK book somewhere. Getting killed and using a soulstone isn't bad either since they are reasonably priced. Only real downside is you debuff when you die, so make sure your KEI and HoV have dropped. Smiley: twocents

Gate Potion 10 dose should cosy you about 3k.
Sell back to vendor at 1 charge left you get back 1900 plat.

so each gate costs you about 122 plat. Cheaper than a soul stone (Depending on your level)

Vial of Velium Vapors is by far the cheapest only if you farm all the parts. But is lore so you can only have 1 at a time - but can have all the parts you need in the bank - and you are getting ported to Thurgadin anyhow.

I personaly use gate potions.

Do Shamans still have to wait til lvl 25 to start Alchemy, if not that may be a way to save plat (long run). Also, what is cap on Alchemy, per lvl. Is it like other TSkills where there is no lvl cap?

There is so little profit made on gate pots it wouldn't be worth the expense of createing a Shaman to make them. FoB EF, IS, or ST gates cost around 100p ea. Also you can buy a 10 does gate poition and use 9 sell the last one back for 1900-2000p comes out to around 120p a gate. If You have the time and want to work on your OT Hammer thats another option, lot of faction work and a few illsuion potions. Velium Vapors is the cheapest way to go though couple hours farming will keep you in Vapors for months cost to get potery up to 150 may run you 100p tops. Thing with vapors being as they are Lore and No Drop is to have the supplies in the bank and get the purifer to make a new one everytime you port into Thurgadin.

With 130 charisma it still cost my Sha about 250 pp to make a gate potion. Think they triv at about 180, and even with a 273 skill you still fail about one out of 30, so about 260 pp per.

Not sure but I think the Thurg gate still reqs you to be level 60 to use, it may have changed. The Sledgehammer requires a lot of VS faction since it was designed to get the evil races back to OT, most of the faction is found in Veeshan, (ie killing dragons) and still needs a lvl 51 to proc. But if you do that, you'll mess up your dragon faction in Velious. I'm a bit confused - is your ranger lvl 55? I assume that if you got enough faction to do the quest you wouldn't get creamed running to the Book, but offhand I don't know the Golem faction. All the dragoons in OT are VS faction I'm pretty sure. I guess you could swim around the wall to the book. There are lots of things to consider. I've killed scored 1300 MoBs in the past two weeks just trying to get faction, so it can be a chore.

As I indicated, I still think the easiest way is to buy the actual gate potion(s).

Unless this has changed the only way to increase you faction with OT is the Sarnak Bezerker Tail quest. Also If you have spent any time in Karnors Castle or Howling Stones the quest would be almost impossible for you. Currently with no addition faction hit an DE Illsuion potion might work not sure how much deity will come into play.
#19 Jan 09 2006 at 6:28 PM Rating: Decent
LoL, like I said lots to consider. I checked, and both Golems and Dragoons are on Venril Sathir faction, as is the Sledge quest giver, so Veeshan MoBs to raise faction and something called "The War" and "Protect the Shipyard" quests. I know nothing about these quests. DE illusion is a good idea. I doubt they'd buy into the Karana deity though.

Which brins up a question I've always had - How can they tell your religion by looking at you?

I guess my Monk would never get close, since he had to do the Pawbuster thing in KC.

Recent attempts at the Worker's Sledgemallet (overthere gate proc hammer) quest.

Iksar beast levelling in OT, turning in braids with dark elf, troll or ogre potion (all work the same) was able to get the hammer with about 104 braids. Made the mistake of getting Charasis key with a friend so took some bad faction hits. Took another 120ish braids (with potion) to get to dubious. Now dance happily with golems.

Agnostic half elf warrior in my guild got her hammer 100ish braids using dark elf potion to turn in. She remains KOS in normal form.

Paladin of Marr friend cannot get the quest to give him faction hits. Rottgrime hates him in any form and invis, chanter and bard trickery has not worked. There are some dragons and a named sarnak in Kaesora that give venril sathir faction. Not a speedy way to raise it... He has decied origin AA and potions more practical.

Edit: a long time ago my dark elf chanter turned in about 30 braids and used alliance (forget which exact spell in the line) to get his hammer. So an alliance item could help you... if you can find one).

Im not sure of the items name, but there is a quest in POK which results in an item with 5 charges of gate to pok.
Only heard about it in guild chat over a year ago.

Small clockwork talisman. Uses Quintessence of Knowledge as a reagent. First step of the quest. Next is Powered clockwork talisman, then The Binden Concerrentia, which has unlimited charges.

I was scanning this thread looking for a mention of the Bin Laden Concerto and Fallon finally posted it.
Sadly, there is no way in heck most people can obtain it anymore since it requires raiding PoP.

Funny story from tonight about this topic... /wave Elidera

We were forming a group in BoT and found ourselves with two warriors, a chanter, and beastlord, waiting for the arrivial of a sk and a cleric.

We decide we have slows, decent buffs, and two warriors - me as Fortis and Tent Stake (name changed to protect the innocent) - so we decide to kill one or two while we wait.

I'm the lower tank by a bunch of levels, so Tent Stake takes the lead. Our first mob is pulled and we get started.

The fight is going as you would expect - Tent Stake taking minor damage but in general we're almost thinking about the next pulls.

Then all of the sudden, poof, Tent Stake is gone. I didn't even notice as the mob went over to and started picking on Elidera, our chanter. After a few seconds, I thought "that's odd, why doesn't Tent Stake have aggro again?".

"Wait a minute, where is Tent Stake? His HP bar is grayed out and there are not any zone-outs right here." Secret deathtouch maybe? Some bug in the game? I don't remember seeing him high-tail it outta there.

Check guild manager.

Tent Stake | xx | Warrior | The Overthere

EDIT: I will add that Tent Stake is a good tank and fun guy. This had everyone laughing, including him. The group had just started so I figured he just hadn't switched weapons yet. Smiley: smile
