Regarding LONG Zones.Follow

#1 Dec 30 2005 at 6:38 PM Rating: Decent
When I change areas I get a LONG loading screen-5-10 minutes. The computer is new, all of that. I was wondering if maybe it was some option I had to change.

I seem to remember there being an option in the options menu before you log in, to turn some zone cache thing on, or off.

Take a look at that, and set it to off.

Hope that helps.

a new computer is only as good as it's maker. if you want quick zoning, you'll need 512+ ram. God save you, if you bought an integrated pos.

Check its vitals.. processor and RAM. Ensure the connection is strong, which is a general tip, not really related to this particular issue.

I'm guessing your Catche might be doing it. If you turn it on, it'll safe info about zones so they'll load quicker.. however, this makes the initial loads, when its recreating these data cheat sheets, slower. If its on, and the computer is new, its quite possibly creating these files, and the problem should not only fix itself, but reverse itself, in time.

Then again, some things are just hard to understand. My desktop is a good computer, but its not top of the line. My laptop is godly.. I'm still dumbfounded I was able to find one like it for not much more than $1850. Its a $3000-value computer, (computers are my line of work), just shopped around for months until this deal came along.. I had time. Anyhow, the point of this is to say, its a great comp, but my older one still outloads it. In part, its because I haven't enabled catche on my laptop yet. Another is, its a laptop, and they're a bit weaker in some aspects naturally. Another is I very, extremely rarely restart it.. which it could definately use to speed it up.
Bottom line to this rant, some things with computers are strange, and not worth considering too deeply when there's more in life, or even Everquest, to do.

I have 296 ram or something like that(yeah, my computer needs upgrading plese pm me to donate to the fund) and zoning was pretty quick for me until my video card gave out. Then it would either take 5 minutes or so or my computer would exit the game with some annoying error message about my video card.
